Nemojte 'beštimat' šišmiše, 'beštimajte' ljude. Nova studija otkrila je što je otključalo vrata virusu koji je iz životinjskog carstva prešao u ljudsko i izazvao pandemiju. Nije to bio ni šišmiš iz neke kineske šumetine kojeg je gladni seljak pokušao skuhati za ručak ni ljuskavi pangolin iz savana na jugu Afrike kojeg je odlučio pojesti bogati perverznjak, jer problem nije u divljim životinjama.

Premda su i one domaćini cijelom nizu virusa, divlje vrste poput ove dvije navedene u normalnim uvjetima nisu prenositelji virusa na ljude. Kako je pokazalo istraživanje znanstvenika sa sveučilišta University of California i University of Melbourne, čiji su rezultati jutros objavljeni na stranicama The Royal Societyja, rizik prijelaska virusa sa životinje na čovjeka najviši je kad im se zadire u prirodni okoliš.

Baš kao što su još prije nekoliko godina upozoravali znanstvenici, o čemu smo nedavno pisali - uništavanjem prirodnog okoliša izlažemo se najezdi divljih životinja koje sa sobom donose i viruse koji su nam strani pa na njih naš imunitet nema prikladan odgovor.

Ispostavilo se da su im upozorenja bila na mjestu, a novo istraživanje otkrilo je, također, da su šišmiši, pangolini i ostale 'beštijice' iz kaveza po naše zdravlje daleko opasnije od svojih rođaka koji tumaraju šipražjem. Ovo, nažalost, vrijedi i za domaće životinje i životinje s kojima dijelimo okoliš, a razloga je nekoliko.

S nekih nam vrsta virusi lakše prelaze jer smo u biološkom smislu bliski, osobito ako nam je sličan i imunosni sustav, kao što je slučaj s miševima s kojima dijelimo čak 98 posto DNK. Oni zbog toga s nama lako dijele mišju groznicu. S drugim smo se vrstama zbližili tijekom stoljeća provedenih zajedno, u pravilu na njihovu štetu, a našu korist. Sve dok nam, doduše nehotično, ne uzvrate udarac preko virusa.

Uspoređujući podatke o prijelazu virusa sa životinje na čovjeka tijekom jednog desetljeća, znanstvenici su utvrdili da je najmanje vjerojatno da će nas 'darovati' divlje, ugrožene vrste. Osim što ih je malo, s njima ne dijelimo stanište i prilike u kojima se srećemo su rijetke.

Malo je drugačiji slučaj sa životinjama koje su se uspjele održati u velikim brojevima, poput šišmiša, miševa i majmuna. Ono što je zanimljivo, a što je pokazalo ovo novo istraživanje, je da mogućnost prelaska virusa sa životinja na ljude raste kad je životinja pod stresom kojeg joj je uzrokovao čovjek - lovom, uništavanjem staništa, protjerivanjem... Kod takvih je vrsta i u tim uvjetima nađeno dvostruko više virusa koji su za nas potencijalno opasni, nego kod istih životinja pod nekom drugom vrstom stresa. Takav je slučaj bio s virusom HIV-a koji je na nas prešao s čimpanza koje su se nemilice klale u Africi, s Hantaan virusom koji izaziva mišju groznicu i, kako se čini, s ovim najnovijim virusom SARS-CoV-2. Ne zaboravimo ni SARS koji nam je prešao s potkovastih šišmiša te Herpes B kojeg smo 'zaradili' od majmuna makakija.

Najopasnije su po pitanju prijenosa virusa na ljude divlje životinje uhvaćene i stavljene u zatočeništvo, bilo zbog prodaje na crnom tržištu ugroženih vrsta ili zbog toga da bi poslužile kao hrana. Jednostavno je - uslijed stresa što su ulovljene i smještene u kaveze padne im imunitet, što virusi brže-bolje iskoriste za razmnožavanje. Što je veća koncentracija virusa u tijelu uhvaćene životinje, za osobe koje joj se nađu u blizini veća je opasnost od zaraze. Dakle, životinje same po sebi, u normalnim uvjetima, nisu krive što nam prenose bolesti, krivi su oni koji ih stavljaju u nenormalne uvjete u kojima ostaju bez staništa, lovišta i pojilišta. Ili u kaveze.

Nemojte 'beštimat' šišmiše, 'beštimajte' ljude. Nova studija otkrila je što je otključalo vrata virusu koji je iz životinjskog carstva prešao u ljudsko i izazvao pandemiju. Nije to bio ni šišmiš iz neke kineske šumetine kojeg je gladni seljak pokušao skuhati za ručak ni ljuskavi pangolin iz savana na jugu Afrike kojeg je odlučio pojesti bogati perverznjak, jer problem nije u divljim životinjama.

Premda su i one domaćini cijelom nizu virusa, divlje vrste poput ove dvije navedene u normalnim uvjetima nisu prenositelji virusa na ljude. Kako je pokazalo istraživanje znanstvenika sa sveučilišta University of California i University of Melbourne, čiji su rezultati jutros objavljeni na stranicama The Royal Societyja, rizik prijelaska virusa sa životinje na čovjeka najviši je kad im se zadire u prirodni okoliš.

Baš kao što su još prije nekoliko godina upozoravali znanstvenici, o čemu smo nedavno pisali - uništavanjem prirodnog okoliša izlažemo se najezdi divljih životinja koje sa sobom donose i viruse koji su nam strani pa na njih naš imunitet nema prikladan odgovor.

Ispostavilo se da su im upozorenja bila na mjestu, a novo istraživanje otkrilo je, također, da su šišmiši, pangolini i ostale 'beštijice' iz kaveza po naše zdravlje daleko opasnije od svojih rođaka koji tumaraju šipražjem. Ovo, nažalost, vrijedi i za domaće životinje i životinje s kojima dijelimo okoliš, a razloga je nekoliko.

S nekih nam vrsta virusi lakše prelaze jer smo u biološkom smislu bliski, osobito ako nam je sličan i imunosni sustav, kao što je slučaj s miševima s kojima dijelimo čak 98 posto DNK. Oni zbog toga s nama lako dijele mišju groznicu. S drugim smo se vrstama zbližili tijekom stoljeća provedenih zajedno, u pravilu na njihovu štetu, a našu korist. Sve dok nam, doduše nehotično, ne uzvrate udarac preko virusa.

Uspoređujući podatke o prijelazu virusa sa životinje na čovjeka tijekom jednog desetljeća, znanstvenici su utvrdili da je najmanje vjerojatno da će nas 'darovati' divlje, ugrožene vrste. Osim što ih je malo, s njima ne dijelimo stanište i prilike u kojima se srećemo su rijetke.

Malo je drugačiji slučaj sa životinjama koje su se uspjele održati u velikim brojevima, poput šišmiša, miševa i majmuna. Ono što je zanimljivo, a što je pokazalo ovo novo istraživanje, je da mogućnost prelaska virusa sa životinja na ljude raste kad je životinja pod stresom kojeg joj je uzrokovao čovjek - lovom, uništavanjem staništa, protjerivanjem... Kod takvih je vrsta i u tim uvjetima nađeno dvostruko više virusa koji su za nas potencijalno opasni, nego kod istih životinja pod nekom drugom vrstom stresa. Takav je slučaj bio s virusom HIV-a koji je na nas prešao s čimpanza koje su se nemilice klale u Africi, s Hantaan virusom koji izaziva mišju groznicu i, kako se čini, s ovim najnovijim virusom SARS-CoV-2. Ne zaboravimo ni SARS koji nam je prešao s potkovastih šišmiša te Herpes B kojeg smo 'zaradili' od majmuna makakija.

Najopasnije su po pitanju prijenosa virusa na ljude divlje životinje uhvaćene i stavljene u zatočeništvo, bilo zbog prodaje na crnom tržištu ugroženih vrsta ili zbog toga da bi poslužile kao hrana. Jednostavno je - uslijed stresa što su ulovljene i smještene u kaveze padne im imunitet, što virusi brže-bolje iskoriste za razmnožavanje. Što je veća koncentracija virusa u tijelu uhvaćene životinje, za osobe koje joj se nađu u blizini veća je opasnost od zaraze. Dakle, životinje same po sebi, u normalnim uvjetima, nisu krive što nam prenose bolesti, krivi su oni koji ih stavljaju u nenormalne uvjete u kojima ostaju bez staništa, lovišta i pojilišta. Ili u kaveze.

Nemojte 'beštimat' šišmiše, 'beštimajte' ljude. Nova studija otkrila je što je otključalo vrata virusu koji je iz životinjskog carstva prešao u ljudsko i izazvao pandemiju. Nije to bio ni šišmiš iz neke kineske šumetine kojeg je gladni seljak pokušao skuhati za ručak ni ljuskavi pangolin iz savana na jugu Afrike kojeg je odlučio pojesti bogati perverznjak, jer problem nije u divljim životinjama.

Premda su i one domaćini cijelom nizu virusa, divlje vrste poput ove dvije navedene u normalnim uvjetima nisu prenositelji virusa na ljude. Kako je pokazalo istraživanje znanstvenika sa sveučilišta University of California i University of Melbourne, čiji su rezultati jutros objavljeni na stranicama The Royal Societyja, rizik prijelaska virusa sa životinje na čovjeka...
