Najbolji hrvatski tenisač Marin Čilić po sedmi put u karijeri plasirao se u osminu finala Australian Opena nakon što je u dvoboju 3. kola odličnom igrom svladao petog nositelja Rusa Andreja Rubljova sa 7-5, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-3 za dva sata i 36 minuta igre.

Čilićev suparnik u dvoboju za plasman u četvrtfinale bit će 9. nositelj Kanađanin Felix Auger-Aliassime koji je sa 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 nadigrao Britanca Daniela Evansa.

U šestom međusobnom dvoboju s Rubljovom Čilić je ostvario tek drugu pobjedu kojom je prekinuo niz od četiri uzastopna poraza od 24-godišnjeg Rusa koji je prošle godine bio četvrtfinalist u Melbourne Parku. Način na koji je Marin stigao do ove pobjede bio je maestralan i podsjetio je na njegova najbolja izdanja u karijeri.

Izrazito agresivnim pristupom hrvatski tenisač je koristio gotovo svaku priliku za napad, bilo da se radilo o izmjenama ili o drugom servisu suparnika. To mu je donijelo prvi 'break' u četvrtom gemu, a potvrdio ga je u sljedećem i poveo sa 4-1.

Ipak, Rus je pokazao koliko može biti opasan, kad je u sedmom gemu iskoristio jednu kraću krizu u Marinovoj igri, kad je s dvije uzastopne pogreške na bekendu vratio Rubljova u prvi set. No, Čilić je našao način kako po drugi put oduzeti servis Rubljovu, kad je Rus servirao za 'tie-break' prvog seta. Čak 19 Marinovih izravnih poena, u odnosu na samo devet njegovog suparnika, zorno su pokazali kakvu je taktiku pripremio za ovaj meč, držeći pritvom pod kontrolom broj neforsiranih pogrešaka (9).

U drugom su setu obojica tenisača bili vrlo uvjerljivi u gemovima na početnom udarcu, ne ostavljajući priliku za oduzimanje servisa pa je odluka o tome na čiju će stranu otići druga dionica meča pala u 'tie-breaku'.

U njemu je ponovno do izražaja došla Čilićeva agresivnost koja mu je donijela dva 'mini-breaka' prednosti (5-2) koje je u prvoj prilici pretvorio u vodstvo od 2-0 u setovima.

Frustracije Andreja Rubljova postale su još izraženije, kad mu je u u trećem gemu trećeg seta po treći put u meču izgubio servis. Čilić je u tim trenucima djelovao nesalomljivo, a u petom gemu su ga centimetri dijelili od novog 'breaka' i vodstva 4-1. Ipak, Rubljov je riskantnim forhendom na 'break-loptu' pogodio vanjski dio crte i ostao u meču.

Igrač koji je do tada djelovao potpuno izgubljeno, uz malu Čilićevu pomoć se razigrao i u sljedeća četiri gema izgubio svega tri poena za potpuni preokret u trećem setu. Nizom od pet gemova Rubljov je odveo dvoboj u četvrti set.

Čilić je u trećem setu po prvi put u meču imao više pogrešaka (13) od izravnih poena (11), što je bio rezultat pada u njegovoj igri u posljednja četiri gema te dionice.

No, kriza nije potrajala. Od početka četvrtog seta Marin je vratio sigurnost na početnom udarcu, a novu priliku za 'break' dočekao u četvrtom gemu. Rubljov je ovoga puta na 'break-loptu' za nekoliko centimetara promašio forhend paralelu.

Rus priliku za povratak nije dobio, iako je u sedmom gemu došao do izjednačenja na Čilićevom servisu. No, Marin je razornom bekend paralelom i još jednim asom riješio taj problem te došao na gem od pobjede.

Nakon dva sata i 36 minuta Marin je došao do prve meč-lopte koju je realizirao svojim 24 asom, nakon kojeg je emotivno proslavio svoju pobjedu s brojnim hrvatskim navijačima u Margaret Court Areni.

"Uživao sam u svakoj sekundi meča. S Andrejom su uvijek teške bitke. U ovoj sam uživao i na kraju uz odličan tenis došao do pobjede", rekao je najbolji hrvatski tenisač odmah po završetku meča u kojem je zaradio prvi plasman u osminu finala Grand Slam turnira od Australian Opena 2020.

Završio je meč sa 55 izravnih poena i 41 neforsiranom pogreškom, što mu je uz odličan servis donijelo ovu pobjedu.

"Malo hladniji uvjeti omogućili su da idem za svojim udarcima. Ne smijete takvim igračima date priliku za napad. Težio sam biti agresivan i to se isplatilo", otkrio je Marin svoju taktiku protiv Rubljova.

Na putu prema prvom četvrtfinalu od US Opena 2018. čeka ga Kanađanin Felix Auger-Aliassime koji igra u životnoj formi, ali protiv Čilića u tri međusobna dvoboja još nije osjetio slast pobjede. 

"Suparnici su sve teži. No, igram jako dobar tenis. Veselim se novim izazovima", poručio je Čilić koji će protiv Kanađanina igrati u ponedjeljak.

Najbolji hrvatski tenisač Marin Čilić po sedmi put u karijeri plasirao se u osminu finala Australian Opena nakon što je u dvoboju 3. kola odličnom igrom svladao petog nositelja Rusa Andreja Rubljova sa 7-5, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-3 za dva sata i 36 minuta igre.

Čilićev suparnik u dvoboju za plasman u četvrtfinale bit će 9. nositelj Kanađanin Felix Auger-Aliassime koji je sa 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 nadigrao Britanca Daniela Evansa.

U šestom međusobnom dvoboju s Rubljovom Čilić je ostvario tek drugu pobjedu kojom je prekinuo niz od četiri uzastopna poraza od 24-godišnjeg Rusa koji je prošle godine bio četvrtfinalist u Melbourne Parku. Način na koji je Marin stigao do ove pobjede bio je maestralan i podsjetio je na njegova najbolja izdanja u karijeri.

Izrazito agresivnim pristupom hrvatski tenisač je koristio gotovo svaku priliku za napad, bilo da se radilo o izmjenama ili o drugom servisu suparnika. To mu je donijelo prvi 'break' u četvrtom gemu, a potvrdio ga je u sljedećem i poveo sa 4-1.

Ipak, Rus je pokazao koliko može biti opasan, kad je u sedmom gemu iskoristio jednu kraću krizu u Marinovoj igri, kad je s dvije uzastopne pogreške na bekendu vratio Rubljova u prvi set. No, Čilić je našao način kako po drugi put oduzeti servis Rubljovu, kad je Rus servirao za 'tie-break' prvog seta. Čak 19 Marinovih izravnih poena, u odnosu na samo devet njegovog suparnika, zorno su pokazali kakvu je taktiku pripremio za ovaj meč, držeći pritvom pod kontrolom broj neforsiranih pogrešaka (9).

U drugom su setu obojica tenisača bili vrlo uvjerljivi u gemovima na početnom udarcu, ne ostavljajući priliku za oduzimanje servisa pa je odluka o tome na čiju će stranu otići druga dionica meča pala u 'tie-breaku'.

U njemu je ponovno do izražaja došla Čilićeva agresivnost koja mu je donijela dva 'mini-breaka' prednosti (5-2) koje je u prvoj prilici pretvorio u vodstvo od 2-0 u setovima.

Frustracije Andreja Rubljova postale su još izraženije, kad mu je u u trećem gemu trećeg seta po treći put u meču izgubio servis. Čilić je u tim trenucima djelovao nesalomljivo, a u petom gemu su ga centimetri dijelili od novog 'breaka' i vodstva 4-1. Ipak, Rubljov je riskantnim forhendom na 'break-loptu' pogodio vanjski dio crte i ostao u meču.

Igrač koji je do tada djelovao potpuno izgubljeno, uz malu Čilićevu pomoć se razigrao i u sljedeća četiri gema izgubio svega tri poena za potpuni preokret u trećem setu. Nizom od pet gemova Rubljov je odveo dvoboj u četvrti set.

Čilić je u trećem setu po prvi put u meču imao više pogrešaka (13) od izravnih poena (11), što je bio rezultat pada u njegovoj igri u posljednja četiri gema te dionice.

No, kriza nije potrajala. Od početka četvrtog seta Marin je vratio sigurnost na početnom udarcu, a novu priliku za 'break' dočekao u četvrtom gemu. Rubljov je ovoga puta na 'break-loptu' za nekoliko centimetara promašio forhend paralelu.

Rus priliku za povratak nije dobio, iako je u sedmom gemu došao do izjednačenja na Čilićevom servisu. No, Marin je razornom bekend paralelom i još jednim asom riješio taj problem te došao na gem od pobjede.

Nakon dva sata i 36 minuta Marin je došao do prve meč-lopte koju je realizirao svojim 24 asom, nakon kojeg je emotivno proslavio svoju pobjedu s brojnim hrvatskim navijačima u Margaret Court Areni.

"Uživao sam u svakoj sekundi meča. S Andrejom su uvijek teške bitke. U ovoj sam uživao i na kraju uz odličan tenis došao do pobjede", rekao je najbolji hrvatski tenisač odmah po završetku meča u kojem je zaradio prvi plasman u osminu finala Grand Slam turnira od Australian Opena 2020.

Završio je meč sa 55 izravnih poena i 41 neforsiranom pogreškom, što mu je uz odličan servis donijelo ovu pobjedu.

"Malo hladniji uvjeti omogućili su da idem za svojim udarcima. Ne smijete takvim igračima date priliku za napad. Težio sam biti agresivan i to se isplatilo", otkrio je Marin svoju taktiku protiv Rubljova.

Na putu prema prvom četvrtfinalu od US Opena 2018. čeka ga Kanađanin Felix Auger-Aliassime koji igra u životnoj formi, ali protiv Čilića u tri međusobna dvoboja još nije osjetio slast pobjede. 

"Suparnici su sve teži. No, igram jako dobar tenis. Veselim se novim izazovima", poručio je Čilić koji će protiv Kanađanina igrati u ponedjeljak.

Sjajni Marin Čilić srušio petog nositelja i plasirao se u osminu finala Australian Opena

Najbolji hrvatski tenisač Marin Čilić po sedmi put u karijeri plasirao se u osminu finala Australian Opena nakon što je u dvoboju 3. kola odličnom igrom svladao petog nositelja Rusa Andreja Rubljova sa 7-5, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-3 za dva sata i 36 minuta igre.

Čilićev suparnik u dvoboju za plasman u četvrtfinale bit će 9. nositelj Kanađanin Felix Auger-Aliassime koji je sa 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 nadigrao Britanca Daniela Evansa.

U šestom međusobnom dvoboju s Rubljovom Čilić je ostvario tek drugu pobjedu kojom je prekinuo niz od četiri uzastopna poraza od 24-godišnjeg Rusa koji je prošle godine bio četvrtfinalist u Melbourne Parku. Način na koji je Marin stigao do ove pobjede bio je maestralan i podsjetio je na njegova najbolja izdanja u karijeri.
