Odmah da budemo načisto, nisam siguran da bi se biografija Huga Pratta iz pera Thierryja Thomasa naročito svidjela Hugu Prattu.

To, međutim, ne znači da se radi o slaboj knjizi, dapače. Ali krenimo redom.

Hugo Pratt jedinstven je primjer stripovnog autora za kojega su čuli čak i oni koji nikada nisu čitali nikakvo štivo u sličicama. Ravnodušnom dijelu javnosti još je poznatiji, imenom i izgledom, njegov ključni junak, Corto Maltese. Tome se ne treba čuditi znamo li da je dotični u minulih pola stoljeća od naslovnog lika serijala po ukusu i mjeri zahtjevnije publike postao nekom vrstom popkulturne ikone koja se danas naširoko koristi, naveliko štanca, pa i drsko zlorabi.

Ozbiljan postotak tiraže Prattovih albuma o mornaru iz miješanog braka između cornwalskog mornara i andalzijske Ciganke uglavnom ne služi čitanju, nego, u vrh glave, prelistavanju odnosno izlaganju na niske staklene stoliće u dnevnim sobama domaćina koji bi htjeli pokazati svoje dobar ukus.

Ne osuđujem, neka ih, tih dekoratera kojima je Cortov album činjenica istoga reda kao bilo koji cofee table book o jedrilicama, nacionalnim parkovima ili fotomodelima, samo želim podvući činjenicu kako dotični junak i njegov kreator uživaju uistinu izdvojen, neusporediv status.

Naravno, postoje i autentični zaljubljenici u Prattov opus, koji se uporno vraćaju librima pokojnoga meštra i rado čitaju sve nove naslove koji se na bilo koji način bave njegovim likom i djelom. A takve literature, na njihovu sreću, ne manjka. „Hugo Pratt, portret perom“ Thierryja Thomasa (hrvatski prijevod potpisuje Ursula Burger) stigao nam je s blistavom referencom, jer je prošle godine dobio Goncourta za biografiju.

No, ta žanrovska odrednica dijelu bi čitatelja mogla biti ozbiljnim razlogom za nervozu.

Za životopisima čitatelji posežu kad se žele uputiti u pojedinosti o nekim njima važnim ljudima, otkriti do jučer nepoznate ili zatajene epizode koje im mogu pomoći da bi razumjeli nečiji karakter, afinitete, postupke i djela.

Kao riznica nezaobilaznih, korisnih, manje poznatih fakata – što bi tipične biografije trebale biti - Thomasova knjiga ne zavrjeđuje nikakvu preporuku. Upravo suprotno,

čitateljima koji traže tipičan, dakle, informativan i pregledan vodič kroz život jednog umjetnika i njegov opus, najpametnije je savjetovati da se klone ovoga libra. Konačno, vjerujem da bi im to savjetovao i sam autor koji je umjesto klasične biografije napisao

rijedak žanrovski hibrid negdje na pola puta između najmanje tri životopisa, Prattovog, vlastitog, ali i Fellinijevog (!), monografske studije o jednoj velikoj karijeri i proznoga teksta koji se vrlo labavo oslanja na provjerljive činjenice, ali zato rado meandrira tokovima svijesti.

Svi zanesenjaci u Huga Pratta s lakoćom će se identificirati s Thierryjem Thomasom, ali mu i pozavidjeti, jer je on učinio ono o čemu su ostali samo sanjali: sa šesnaest godina upoznao je velikoga meštra, ispovjedio mu svoju strast prema stripu i uživao u časti da mu Cortov tvorac osobno, barem na kratko, bude neka vrsta umjetničkog i životnog consiglierea.

Priča o Prattu za ovoga Francuza s karijerom televizijskog redatelja ne može se odvojiti od priče o vlastitom odrastanju i sazrijevanju, pa ne treba čuditi što on niti ne pokušava baviti se životom i karijerom velikog stripovnog pripovjedača distancirano i hladno. Ili što priču o Prattu prepliće s još jednom, onom o Federicu Felliniju.

Osim što su obojica, i filmski redatelj i stripovnjak, rođeni u Riminiju, iskusili fašizam i dosegnuli status kulturnih ikona svoga vremena, po svemu ostalom bili su potpuno neusporedivi i različiti. To priznaje i sam Thomas, osobito naglašavajući ključnu poetičku razliku između Pratta koji je bio odgojen na klasičnom Hollyoodu odnosno čvrstoj naraciji i Fellinija koji se volio poigravati s dramaturškim pravilima.

Pa ipak, Thomas si nije žalio truda da ustanovi među njima i poneku (nategnutu) sličnost e da bi imao alibi za vlastito širenje priče na velikog redatelja, premda se jedina ozbiljna podudarnost među njima može izvesti iz autorove intime. Naime, baš kao i Prattu, jednom je prišao i Felliniju, i tako stekao rijedak privilegij kratkog druženja s ćudljivim genijem koji ga je toplo primio.

Da zaključim, de jure zaokupljen rekonstrukcijom jednoga života, Thierry Thomas ih je de facto rekonstruirao tri, a usput ponudio i sasvim osobnu interpretaciju jednoga velikog opusa koji će svaki pravovjerni prattofil pročitati s velikim zanimanjem i još većom ljubomorom, (iako ne sumnjam da svaka autorova misao ne bi baš lijepo sjela samom Hugu, kao što, uostalom, nijednom umjetniku ne liježu meko tuđe opaske i ocjene, čak i kad su pohvalne).

Odmah da budemo načisto, nisam siguran da bi se biografija Huga Pratta iz pera Thierryja Thomasa naročito svidjela Hugu Prattu.

To, međutim, ne znači da se radi o slaboj knjizi, dapače. Ali krenimo redom.

Hugo Pratt jedinstven je primjer stripovnog autora za kojega su čuli čak i oni koji nikada nisu čitali nikakvo štivo u sličicama. Ravnodušnom dijelu javnosti još je poznatiji, imenom i izgledom, njegov ključni junak, Corto Maltese. Tome se ne treba čuditi znamo li da je dotični u minulih pola stoljeća od naslovnog lika serijala po ukusu i mjeri zahtjevnije publike postao nekom vrstom popkulturne ikone koja se danas naširoko koristi, naveliko štanca, pa i drsko zlorabi.

Ozbiljan postotak tiraže Prattovih albuma o mornaru iz miješanog braka između cornwalskog mornara i andalzijske Ciganke uglavnom ne služi čitanju, nego, u vrh glave, prelistavanju odnosno izlaganju na niske staklene stoliće u dnevnim sobama domaćina koji bi htjeli pokazati svoje dobar ukus.

Ne osuđujem, neka ih, tih dekoratera kojima je Cortov album činjenica istoga reda kao bilo koji cofee table book o jedrilicama, nacionalnim parkovima ili fotomodelima, samo želim podvući činjenicu kako dotični junak i njegov kreator uživaju uistinu izdvojen, neusporediv status.

Naravno, postoje i autentični zaljubljenici u Prattov opus, koji se uporno vraćaju librima pokojnoga meštra i rado čitaju sve nove naslove koji se na bilo koji način bave njegovim likom i djelom. A takve literature, na njihovu sreću, ne manjka. „Hugo Pratt, portret perom“ Thierryja Thomasa (hrvatski prijevod potpisuje Ursula Burger) stigao nam je s blistavom referencom, jer je prošle godine dobio Goncourta za biografiju.

No, ta žanrovska odrednica dijelu bi čitatelja mogla biti ozbiljnim razlogom za nervozu.

Za životopisima čitatelji posežu kad se žele uputiti u pojedinosti o nekim njima važnim ljudima, otkriti do jučer nepoznate ili zatajene epizode koje im mogu pomoći da bi razumjeli nečiji karakter, afinitete, postupke i djela.

Kao riznica nezaobilaznih, korisnih, manje poznatih fakata – što bi tipične biografije trebale biti - Thomasova knjiga ne zavrjeđuje nikakvu preporuku. Upravo suprotno,

čitateljima koji traže tipičan, dakle, informativan i pregledan vodič kroz život jednog umjetnika i njegov opus, najpametnije je savjetovati da se klone ovoga libra. Konačno, vjerujem da bi im to savjetovao i sam autor koji je umjesto klasične biografije napisao

rijedak žanrovski hibrid negdje na pola puta između najmanje tri životopisa, Prattovog, vlastitog, ali i Fellinijevog (!), monografske studije o jednoj velikoj karijeri i proznoga teksta koji se vrlo labavo oslanja na provjerljive činjenice, ali zato rado meandrira tokovima svijesti.

Svi zanesenjaci u Huga Pratta s lakoćom će se identificirati s Thierryjem Thomasom, ali mu i pozavidjeti, jer je on učinio ono o čemu su ostali samo sanjali: sa šesnaest godina upoznao je velikoga meštra, ispovjedio mu svoju strast prema stripu i uživao u časti da mu Cortov tvorac osobno, barem na kratko, bude neka vrsta umjetničkog i životnog consiglierea.

Priča o Prattu za ovoga Francuza s karijerom televizijskog redatelja ne može se odvojiti od priče o vlastitom odrastanju i sazrijevanju, pa ne treba čuditi što on niti ne pokušava baviti se životom i karijerom velikog stripovnog pripovjedača distancirano i hladno. Ili što priču o Prattu prepliće s još jednom, onom o Federicu Felliniju.

Osim što su obojica, i filmski redatelj i stripovnjak, rođeni u Riminiju, iskusili fašizam i dosegnuli status kulturnih ikona svoga vremena, po svemu ostalom bili su potpuno neusporedivi i različiti. To priznaje i sam Thomas, osobito naglašavajući ključnu poetičku razliku između Pratta koji je bio odgojen na klasičnom Hollyoodu odnosno čvrstoj naraciji i Fellinija koji se volio poigravati s dramaturškim pravilima.

Pa ipak, Thomas si nije žalio truda da ustanovi među njima i poneku (nategnutu) sličnost e da bi imao alibi za vlastito širenje priče na velikog redatelja, premda se jedina ozbiljna podudarnost među njima može izvesti iz autorove intime. Naime, baš kao i Prattu, jednom je prišao i Felliniju, i tako stekao rijedak privilegij kratkog druženja s ćudljivim genijem koji ga je toplo primio.

Da zaključim, de jure zaokupljen rekonstrukcijom jednoga života, Thierry Thomas ih je de facto rekonstruirao tri, a usput ponudio i sasvim osobnu interpretaciju jednoga velikog opusa koji će svaki pravovjerni prattofil pročitati s velikim zanimanjem i još većom ljubomorom, (iako ne sumnjam da svaka autorova misao ne bi baš lijepo sjela samom Hugu, kao što, uostalom, nijednom umjetniku ne liježu meko tuđe opaske i ocjene, čak i kad su pohvalne).
