Novi znanstveni dokazi sugeriraju da ponovljena zaraza koronavirusom može dugoročno povećati rizike po zdravlje. To brine liječnike jer se sve više ljudi nanovo zaražava zbog kruženja zaraznijih podvarijanti omikrona.

Ranije u pandemiji pretpostavljalo se da zaraza osigurava određeni stupanj trajne zaštite, možda nekoliko mjeseci.

No, kako koronavirus mutira, to se više ne podrazumijeva. A svaka nova infekcija nosi rizik ne samo od akutne bolesti nego i od razvijanja simptoma dugog Covida.

"Taj kumulativni rizik nije trivijalan, nije beznačajan. Zaista je značajan", ocijenio je dr. Ziyad Al-Aly, klinički epidemiolog Sveučilišta Washington u St. Louisu u Missouriju.

Po istraživanju izvršenom na američkim veteranima, kojemu je on glavni autor, zaraza koronavirusom dva ili više puta "pridonosi dodatnim rizicima od mortaliteta od svih uzroka, hospitalizacije i štetnih zdravstvenih ishoda" u raznim organima i može dodatno pogoršati rizik od dijabetesa, umora i mentalnih poremećaja.

„Reinfekcija apsolutno povećava rizik", rekao je Al-Aly.

Istraživanje sugerira da su, u odnosu prema onima koji su bili zaraženi samo jednom, ljudi koji se zaraze koronavirusom drugi put izloženi dva i pol puta većem riziku od razvoja srčanih ili plućnih bolesti i ugrušaka. Naknadne infekcije povezuju se također s višim rizikom od potencijalno ozbiljnih zdravstvenih problema te smrti od Covida.

Moguće je da ljudi nakon ponovne infekcije koronavirusom budu sasvim dobro, što se događa u većini slučajeva, rekao je, Al-Aly.

"Ali mogli biste biti jedan od onih nesretnika i razviti neke zaista ozbiljne zdravstvene probleme zbog zaraze".

Direktorica za javno zdravstvo regije Los Angelesa Barbara Ferrer nedavno je citirala to istraživanje kao razlog da se i dalje nose maske na zatvorenim javnim mjestima.

"Oni su utvrdili i da ljudi s ponovljenim infekcijama imaju veći rizik od gastrointestinalnih, bubrežnih, mentalnih, mišićno-koštanih i neuroloških poremećaja te dijabetesa", rekla je.

"Uz to, rizik od razvoja dugoročnih zdravstvenih problema dodatno se povećava svakom ponovnom zarazom. Rizik od dugoročnih zdravstvenih problema je tri puta veći kod zaraženih nego kod onih koji nisu bili zaraženi."

Novi znanstveni dokazi sugeriraju da ponovljena zaraza koronavirusom može dugoročno povećati rizike po zdravlje. To brine liječnike jer se sve više ljudi nanovo zaražava zbog kruženja zaraznijih podvarijanti omikrona.

Ranije u pandemiji pretpostavljalo se da zaraza osigurava određeni stupanj trajne zaštite, možda nekoliko mjeseci.

No, kako koronavirus mutira, to se više ne podrazumijeva. A svaka nova infekcija nosi rizik ne samo od akutne bolesti nego i od razvijanja simptoma dugog Covida.

"Taj kumulativni rizik nije trivijalan, nije beznačajan. Zaista je značajan", ocijenio je dr. Ziyad Al-Aly, klinički epidemiolog Sveučilišta Washington u St. Louisu u Missouriju.

Po istraživanju izvršenom na američkim veteranima, kojemu je on glavni autor, zaraza koronavirusom dva ili više puta "pridonosi dodatnim rizicima od mortaliteta od svih uzroka, hospitalizacije i štetnih zdravstvenih ishoda" u raznim organima i može dodatno pogoršati rizik od dijabetesa, umora i mentalnih poremećaja.

„Reinfekcija apsolutno povećava rizik", rekao je Al-Aly.

Istraživanje sugerira da su, u odnosu prema onima koji su bili zaraženi samo jednom, ljudi koji se zaraze koronavirusom drugi put izloženi dva i pol puta većem riziku od razvoja srčanih ili plućnih bolesti i ugrušaka. Naknadne infekcije povezuju se također s višim rizikom od potencijalno ozbiljnih zdravstvenih problema te smrti od Covida.

Moguće je da ljudi nakon ponovne infekcije koronavirusom budu sasvim dobro, što se događa u većini slučajeva, rekao je, Al-Aly.

"Ali mogli biste biti jedan od onih nesretnika i razviti neke zaista ozbiljne zdravstvene probleme zbog zaraze".

Direktorica za javno zdravstvo regije Los Angelesa Barbara Ferrer nedavno je citirala to istraživanje kao razlog da se i dalje nose maske na zatvorenim javnim mjestima.

"Oni su utvrdili i da ljudi s ponovljenim infekcijama imaju veći rizik od gastrointestinalnih, bubrežnih, mentalnih, mišićno-koštanih i neuroloških poremećaja te dijabetesa", rekla je.

"Uz to, rizik od razvoja dugoročnih zdravstvenih problema dodatno se povećava svakom ponovnom zarazom. Rizik od dugoročnih zdravstvenih problema je tri puta veći kod zaraženih nego kod onih koji nisu bili zaraženi."

Novi znanstveni dokazi sugeriraju da ponovljena zaraza koronavirusom može dugoročno povećati rizike po zdravlje. To brine liječnike jer se sve više ljudi nanovo zaražava zbog kruženja zaraznijih podvarijanti omikrona.

Ranije u pandemiji pretpostavljalo se da zaraza osigurava određeni stupanj trajne zaštite, možda nekoliko mjeseci.

No, kako koronavirus mutira, to se više ne podrazumijeva. A svaka nova infekcija nosi rizik ne samo od akutne bolesti nego i od razvijanja simptoma dugog Covida.

"Taj kumulativni rizik nije trivijalan, nije beznačajan. Zaista je značajan", ocijenio je dr. Ziyad Al-Aly, klinički epidemiolog Sveučilišta Washington u St. Louisu u Missouriju.
