Kontroverzna statua talijanskog istraživača Kristofora Kolumba uklonjena je u četvrtak u San Franciscu nakon što su prosvjednici izrazili sumnju da ona predstavlja simbol opresije.

Dvije tone težak kip, koji je podignut 1957., u četvrtak je uklonjen po nalogu gradskog vijeća nakon što je posljednjih godina bio metom prosvjeda i vandalskih napada, objavio je San Francisco Cronicle.

Gradska dužnosnica Catherine Stefani nazvala je u svom postu na Twitteru uklanjanje spomenika "potrebnim korakom" navodeći da on predstavlja "bolne temelje" povijesti SAD-a.

"Ropstvo, pokoravanje i osvajanje moramo svi osuditi ... kip je predstavljao izmišljenu 'sanitarnu' verziju naše povijesti, slaveći čovjeka dok je ignorirao traumu koju su njegovi postupci izazvali", rekla je Stefani.

Prošlog je tjedna sa statue Kristofora Kolumba u Bostonu skinuta glava. Drugi sličan spomenik bačen je u vatru te potom u jezero u američkoj saveznoj državi Virginiji.

Prosvjedi pod nazivom 'Crni životi su važni' izbili su u brojnim gradovima diljem Sjedinjenih Država nakon ubojstva nenaoružanog Afroamerikanca Georgea Floyda, kojeg je pritiskom koljena na vrat prilikom privođenja ubio bijeli policajac 25. svibnja u Minneapolisu.

Prosvjednici od tada imaju za metu i spomenike koji po njihovim riječima predstavljaju proganjanje Afroamerikanaca i drugih manjina.

Kolumbo je bio jedan od prvih Europljana u Novom svijetu i smatra se čovjekom koji je otkrio Ameriku. Povjesničari i aktivisti za ljudska prava kritiziraju Kolumba zbog porobljavanja autohtonog stanovništva Amerike.

"Uklanjane statue nije brisanje povijesti", navodi Stefani. "To je prije svega pokazivanje ljubavi prema našim prijateljima i susjedima koji su ovog trenutka povrijeđeni, te prema zajednicama koje su stoljećima bile povrijeđene".

Kontroverzna statua talijanskog istraživača Kristofora Kolumba uklonjena je u četvrtak u San Franciscu nakon što su prosvjednici izrazili sumnju da ona predstavlja simbol opresije.

Dvije tone težak kip, koji je podignut 1957., u četvrtak je uklonjen po nalogu gradskog vijeća nakon što je posljednjih godina bio metom prosvjeda i vandalskih napada, objavio je San Francisco Cronicle.

Gradska dužnosnica Catherine Stefani nazvala je u svom postu na Twitteru uklanjanje spomenika "potrebnim korakom" navodeći da on predstavlja "bolne temelje" povijesti SAD-a.

"Ropstvo, pokoravanje i osvajanje moramo svi osuditi ... kip je predstavljao izmišljenu 'sanitarnu' verziju naše povijesti, slaveći čovjeka dok je ignorirao traumu koju su njegovi postupci izazvali", rekla je Stefani.

Prošlog je tjedna sa statue Kristofora Kolumba u Bostonu skinuta glava. Drugi sličan spomenik bačen je u vatru te potom u jezero u američkoj saveznoj državi Virginiji.

Prosvjedi pod nazivom 'Crni životi su važni' izbili su u brojnim gradovima diljem Sjedinjenih Država nakon ubojstva nenaoružanog Afroamerikanca Georgea Floyda, kojeg je pritiskom koljena na vrat prilikom privođenja ubio bijeli policajac 25. svibnja u Minneapolisu.

Prosvjednici od tada imaju za metu i spomenike koji po njihovim riječima predstavljaju proganjanje Afroamerikanaca i drugih manjina.

Kolumbo je bio jedan od prvih Europljana u Novom svijetu i smatra se čovjekom koji je otkrio Ameriku. Povjesničari i aktivisti za ljudska prava kritiziraju Kolumba zbog porobljavanja autohtonog stanovništva Amerike.

"Uklanjane statue nije brisanje povijesti", navodi Stefani. "To je prije svega pokazivanje ljubavi prema našim prijateljima i susjedima koji su ovog trenutka povrijeđeni, te prema zajednicama koje su stoljećima bile povrijeđene".

Dvije tone težak kip, koji je podignut 1957., u četvrtak je uklonjen po nalogu gradskog vijeća nakon što je posljednjih godina bio metom prosvjeda i vandalskih napada, objavio je San Francisco Cronicle.

Gradska dužnosnica Catherine Stefani nazvala je u svom postu na Twitteru uklanjanje spomenika "potrebnim korakom" navodeći da on predstavlja "bolne temelje" povijesti SAD-a.

"Ropstvo, pokoravanje i osvajanje moramo svi osuditi ... kip je predstavljao izmišljenu 'sanitarnu' verziju naše povijesti, slaveći čovjeka dok je ignorirao traumu koju su njegovi postupci izazvali", rekla je Stefani.
