Unatoč tome što je Republikanska stranka u prošla četiri izborna ciklusa uspješno osvojila simpatije američkih umirovljenika, predizborne ankete Wall Street Journala i NBC Newsa daju naslutiti da bi se ove godine građani stariji od 65 godina u ključnim swing državama, ipak mogli odlučiti za Joea Bidena.
Donald Trump 2016. godine među umirovljenicima je osvojio čak 7 posto bolji rezultat od svoje protukandidatkinje Hillary Clinton, ali je ove godine prema spomenutoj anketi u zaostatku čak 10 postotnih bodova. Najveći problem aktualnog predsjednika jest činjenica da su građani dobne skupine 65+ natprosječno zastupljeni u onim saveznim državama koje će ove godine odlučiti pobjednika. Istovremeno, pandemija koronavirusa koja je nemilosrdno odnijela više od 220.000 ljudskih života, velika mu je prepreka među najrizičnijom skupinom građana.
Savezna država Maine, na samome sjeveru SAD-a, ima najstarije stanovništvo u cijeloj državi. Naime, na umirovljenike otpada čak petina građana. Platforma FiveThirtyEight.com, koja objedinjava prosjek predizbornih anketa, najavljuje ozbiljan politički potres u toj saveznoj državi, u kojoj su republikanci 2016. godine osvojili uistinu sjajan rezultat. Biden u Maineu trenutno vodi za čak 15 posto, što je porast popularnosti Demokratske stranke od 12 posto u samo četiri godine. Također, u velikoj je opasnosti i republikanska senatorica Susan Collins koja se 3. studenog bori za još jedan mandat u američkom Senatu, a kojoj ankete najavljuju poraz.
Umirovljenici čine i ogroman postotak stanovnika u Pennsylvaniji, Michiganu i Wisconsinu, državama u kojima Biden već mjesecima vodi, a u kojima 8 posto građana starijih od 65 godina preferira Joea Bidena u odnosu na one koji su 2016. favorizirali Hillary Clinton.
Florida, Iowa i New Hampshire, također „swing“ države u kojima trenutno vodi Biden, broje po 20 posto umirovljenika. Ono što je najviše promijenilo mišljenje ispitanika o aktualnoj administraciji Donalda Trumpa, jest odgovor na pandemiju koronavirusa.
„Zbog mojih godina, jako me smeta što se predsjednik ponaša kao da se ništa ne događa.“ rekla je Wall Street Journalu Virginia Chronister, žiteljica Pennsylvanije koja je 2016. glasala za Donalda Trumpa.
No, s njezinom se procjenom ne slaže David Schwartz, koji je već iskoristio svoje pravo glasa, još jednom izabravši aktualnog predsjednika. Schwartz je umirovljeni radnik mljekarske tvornice u Wisconsinu koji smatra da je Trump postigao dobru ravnotežu između odgovora na zdravstvenu ugrozu i zaštite nacionalnog gospodarstva.
„Masku nosim samo kada idem u dućan i to je to“, odgovorio je WSJ, napomenuvši da se pandemiju može obuzdati i bez da se blokira cijela zemlja.
Valja napomenuti da se profil umirovljenika izuzetno razlikuje od države do države. Primjerice, Florida, koja nakon Mainea ima najveći postotak stanovnika starijih od 65 godina, dom je brojnih umirovljenika koji su suton svog života odlučili provesti upravo u Sunčanoj državi, kako se popularno zove, te dolaze iz svih krajeva SAD-a. U Pennsylvaniji, s druge strane, starije stanovništvo živi na zapadu; regiji u kojoj je čeličana do relativno nedavno bila žila kucavica cijele savezne države.
Upravo zbog gašenja takvih radnih mjesta, do čega je došlo tijekom administracije Baracka Obame i Joea Bidena, stariji su građani Pennsylvanije 2016. izabrali Donalda Trumpa u nadi da će on oživjeti propalu ekonomiju i vratiti njihovu djecu i unuke kući. Demokratski konzultant Mike Mikus, i dalje smatra da će Trump ove godine pobijediti u područjima izvan strogog centra Pittsburgha.
Zanimljivo, većina umirovljenika koja je sudjelovala u anketi WSJ-a je kazala kako je za njih pandemija koronavirusa puno važniji problem od ekonomskog oporavka, i da će vrlo vjerojatno svog predsjedničkog kandidata 3. studenog birati prema tom kriteriju, čime su postali jedinom skupinom koja je tako odgovorila. Također, 57 posto ispitanika voljelo bi u Bijeloj kući vidjeti predsjednika koji je suosjećajan i kompetentan, dok ih 49 posto preferira kandidata koji se može suprotstaviti vašingtonskom establišmentu.

Unatoč tome što je Republikanska stranka u prošla četiri izborna ciklusa uspješno osvojila simpatije američkih umirovljenika, predizborne ankete Wall Street Journala i NBC Newsa daju naslutiti da bi se ove godine građani stariji od 65 godina u ključnim swing državama, ipak mogli odlučiti za Joea Bidena.
Donald Trump 2016. godine među umirovljenicima je osvojio čak 7 posto bolji rezultat od svoje protukandidatkinje Hillary Clinton, ali je ove godine prema spomenutoj anketi u zaostatku čak 10 postotnih bodova. Najveći problem aktualnog predsjednika jest činjenica da su građani dobne skupine 65+ natprosječno zastupljeni u onim saveznim državama koje će ove godine odlučiti pobjednika. Istovremeno, pandemija koronavirusa koja je nemilosrdno odnijela više od 220.000 ljudskih života, velika mu je prepreka među najrizičnijom skupinom građana.
Savezna država Maine, na samome sjeveru SAD-a, ima najstarije stanovništvo u cijeloj državi. Naime, na umirovljenike otpada čak petina građana. Platforma FiveThirtyEight.com, koja objedinjava prosjek predizbornih anketa, najavljuje ozbiljan politički potres u toj saveznoj državi, u kojoj su republikanci 2016. godine osvojili uistinu sjajan rezultat. Biden u Maineu trenutno vodi za čak 15 posto, što je porast popularnosti Demokratske stranke od 12 posto u samo četiri godine. Također, u velikoj je opasnosti i republikanska senatorica Susan Collins koja se 3. studenog bori za još jedan mandat u američkom Senatu, a kojoj ankete najavljuju poraz.
Umirovljenici čine i ogroman postotak stanovnika u Pennsylvaniji, Michiganu i Wisconsinu, državama u kojima Biden već mjesecima vodi, a u kojima 8 posto građana starijih od 65 godina preferira Joea Bidena u odnosu na one koji su 2016. favorizirali Hillary Clinton.
Florida, Iowa i New Hampshire, također „swing“ države u kojima trenutno vodi Biden, broje po 20 posto umirovljenika. Ono što je najviše promijenilo mišljenje ispitanika o aktualnoj administraciji Donalda Trumpa, jest odgovor na pandemiju koronavirusa.
„Zbog mojih godina, jako me smeta što se predsjednik ponaša kao da se ništa ne događa.“ rekla je Wall Street Journalu Virginia Chronister, žiteljica Pennsylvanije koja je 2016. glasala za Donalda Trumpa.
No, s njezinom se procjenom ne slaže David Schwartz, koji je već iskoristio svoje pravo glasa, još jednom izabravši aktualnog predsjednika. Schwartz je umirovljeni radnik mljekarske tvornice u Wisconsinu koji smatra da je Trump postigao dobru ravnotežu između odgovora na zdravstvenu ugrozu i zaštite nacionalnog gospodarstva.
„Masku nosim samo kada idem u dućan i to je to“, odgovorio je WSJ, napomenuvši da se pandemiju može obuzdati i bez da se blokira cijela zemlja.
Valja napomenuti da se profil umirovljenika izuzetno razlikuje od države do države. Primjerice, Florida, koja nakon Mainea ima najveći postotak stanovnika starijih od 65 godina, dom je brojnih umirovljenika koji su suton svog života odlučili provesti upravo u Sunčanoj državi, kako se popularno zove, te dolaze iz svih krajeva SAD-a. U Pennsylvaniji, s druge strane, starije stanovništvo živi na zapadu; regiji u kojoj je čeličana do relativno nedavno bila žila kucavica cijele savezne države.
Upravo zbog gašenja takvih radnih mjesta, do čega je došlo tijekom administracije Baracka Obame i Joea Bidena, stariji su građani Pennsylvanije 2016. izabrali Donalda Trumpa u nadi da će on oživjeti propalu ekonomiju i vratiti njihovu djecu i unuke kući. Demokratski konzultant Mike Mikus, i dalje smatra da će Trump ove godine pobijediti u područjima izvan strogog centra Pittsburgha.
Zanimljivo, većina umirovljenika koja je sudjelovala u anketi WSJ-a je kazala kako je za njih pandemija koronavirusa puno važniji problem od ekonomskog oporavka, i da će vrlo vjerojatno svog predsjedničkog kandidata 3. studenog birati prema tom kriteriju, čime su postali jedinom skupinom koja je tako odgovorila. Također, 57 posto ispitanika voljelo bi u Bijeloj kući vidjeti predsjednika koji je suosjećajan i kompetentan, dok ih 49 posto preferira kandidata koji se može suprotstaviti vašingtonskom establišmentu.
