Kalifornija strepi od žeđi. Razina vode u jezeru Mead na rijeci Colorado, najvećem rezervoaru SAD-a, najniža je u povijesti, a suša ne jenjava. Presuši li jezero nastalo izgradnjom Hooverove brane, bez vode će ostati 25 milijuna ljudi u tri američke države i Meksiku, piše Jutarnji.hr.

Razina vode toliko je niska da je dosad pronađeno nekoliko tijela ubijenih mafijaša iz zlatnog doba Las Vegasa. Duboko jezero uz branu činilo se dobrim skrovištem za leševe, nitko nije računao da će klimatske promjene biti tolike da promijene i svijet. Ubijeni mafijaši pred prijetećom žeđi pali su u drugi plan.

Sve su šanse da jezero Mead postane "mrvo jezero", odnosno da dosegne toliko nisku razinu da Hooverova brana više ne bi mogla proizvoditi hidroenergiju i isporučivati vodu nizvodno. Zbog toga su stanovnici Kalifornije upozoreni da čuvaju vodu ili im slijede restrikcije. Ljeto može samo pogodovati jakoj suši i NASA upozorava da zapad zemlje ulazi u jednu od najgorih suša ikad viđenih.

Vode nema ni za piće

Da izbjegnu restrikcije, Amerikanci sa zapada zemlje moraju trošiti 35 posto manje vode, predlaže im se kraće tuširanje i ograničeno zalijevanje biljaka. Jedna katastrofa vodi drugoj pa suše neminovno vode k šumskim požarima.

Suša u Kaliforniji dovest će i do propadanja poljoprivrednih kultura pa posljedično i do nestašice hrane. Više od trećine američkog povrća i dvije trećine voća te orašastih plodova uzgaja se u Kaliforniji.

- Utjecaj bi se mogao vidjeti na policama trgovina sljedeće godine - rekao je Bill Diedrich, kalifornijski farmer za BBC News. Nema dovoljno vode da posadi što je dosad sadio. Vode nema dovoljno ni za piće, piše BBC, pa dobrotvorne organizacije dostavljaju flaširanu vodu. Dostavljaju i velike spremnike vode za pranje i ispiranje zahoda.

Jedan od farmera iz doline San Joaquin boji se da će njegovo petero djece ostati bez vode.

- U ovom trenutku ne znamo što nas čeka za mjesec ili dva - rekao je za BBC.

Inovativna rješenja

Nakon katastrofalne suše čiji se vrhunac tek očekuje, iz ladica se vade odbačeni projekti izgradnje novih brana, masivnih poput Hooverove. Farmeri su ih tražili odavno, smatrajući štetom da se ne može pohraniti više kišnice umjesto što je završava u oceanu, ali nailazili su na žestok otpor sve jačih ekoloških skupina. Ali sad je i demokratsko vodstvo Kalifornije, dobro povezano s ekološkim aktivistima, ustuknulo pred sušom i preispituje stare projekte novih brana.

Dok političari još uvijek razmišljaju što će i kako će, drugi pronalaze inovativna rješenja. Tvrtka Source iz Arizone tako je već počela s ugrađivanjem hidropanela koji koriste snagu sunca za izvlačenje vode iz zraka, piše Jutarnji.hr.

U dolini San Joaquin u tijeku je postavljanje 1000 hidropanela kako bi stanovnici imali vodu za piće. Ugrađuju ih i oni koji doma imaju bunare koji rade jer je voda kontaminirana pesticidima. Source koristi solarnu energiju za napajanje ventilatora unutar panela, skupljajući vlagu iz zraka i zatim je filtrirajući kako bi sigurno pila. Ova tehnologija znači da dok ima sunca, bit će i vode za piće. Barem sunčanih sati Kaliforniji ne manjka.

Kalifornija strepi od žeđi. Razina vode u jezeru Mead na rijeci Colorado, najvećem rezervoaru SAD-a, najniža je u povijesti, a suša ne jenjava. Presuši li jezero nastalo izgradnjom Hooverove brane, bez vode će ostati 25 milijuna ljudi u tri američke države i Meksiku, piše Jutarnji.hr.

Razina vode toliko je niska da je dosad pronađeno nekoliko tijela ubijenih mafijaša iz zlatnog doba Las Vegasa. Duboko jezero uz branu činilo se dobrim skrovištem za leševe, nitko nije računao da će klimatske promjene biti tolike da promijene i svijet. Ubijeni mafijaši pred prijetećom žeđi pali su u drugi plan.

Sve su šanse da jezero Mead postane "mrvo jezero", odnosno da dosegne toliko nisku razinu da Hooverova brana više ne bi mogla proizvoditi hidroenergiju i isporučivati vodu nizvodno. Zbog toga su stanovnici Kalifornije upozoreni da čuvaju vodu ili im slijede restrikcije. Ljeto može samo pogodovati jakoj suši i NASA upozorava da zapad zemlje ulazi u jednu od najgorih suša ikad viđenih.

Vode nema ni za piće

Da izbjegnu restrikcije, Amerikanci sa zapada zemlje moraju trošiti 35 posto manje vode, predlaže im se kraće tuširanje i ograničeno zalijevanje biljaka. Jedna katastrofa vodi drugoj pa suše neminovno vode k šumskim požarima.

Suša u Kaliforniji dovest će i do propadanja poljoprivrednih kultura pa posljedično i do nestašice hrane. Više od trećine američkog povrća i dvije trećine voća te orašastih plodova uzgaja se u Kaliforniji.

- Utjecaj bi se mogao vidjeti na policama trgovina sljedeće godine - rekao je Bill Diedrich, kalifornijski farmer za BBC News. Nema dovoljno vode da posadi što je dosad sadio. Vode nema dovoljno ni za piće, piše BBC, pa dobrotvorne organizacije dostavljaju flaširanu vodu. Dostavljaju i velike spremnike vode za pranje i ispiranje zahoda.

Jedan od farmera iz doline San Joaquin boji se da će njegovo petero djece ostati bez vode.

- U ovom trenutku ne znamo što nas čeka za mjesec ili dva - rekao je za BBC.

Inovativna rješenja

Nakon katastrofalne suše čiji se vrhunac tek očekuje, iz ladica se vade odbačeni projekti izgradnje novih brana, masivnih poput Hooverove. Farmeri su ih tražili odavno, smatrajući štetom da se ne može pohraniti više kišnice umjesto što je završava u oceanu, ali nailazili su na žestok otpor sve jačih ekoloških skupina. Ali sad je i demokratsko vodstvo Kalifornije, dobro povezano s ekološkim aktivistima, ustuknulo pred sušom i preispituje stare projekte novih brana.

Dok političari još uvijek razmišljaju što će i kako će, drugi pronalaze inovativna rješenja. Tvrtka Source iz Arizone tako je već počela s ugrađivanjem hidropanela koji koriste snagu sunca za izvlačenje vode iz zraka, piše Jutarnji.hr.

U dolini San Joaquin u tijeku je postavljanje 1000 hidropanela kako bi stanovnici imali vodu za piće. Ugrađuju ih i oni koji doma imaju bunare koji rade jer je voda kontaminirana pesticidima. Source koristi solarnu energiju za napajanje ventilatora unutar panela, skupljajući vlagu iz zraka i zatim je filtrirajući kako bi sigurno pila. Ova tehnologija znači da dok ima sunca, bit će i vode za piće. Barem sunčanih sati Kaliforniji ne manjka.
