Bombardiranje kipućih tokova lave vulkana na La Palmi koji još uvijek eruptira mogao bi biti jedini način da se spriječi uništenje koje uzrokuju otopljeni potoci magme, sugerirao je španjolski političar. Bombardiranje bi se moglo upotrijebiti, prema njegovim riječima, za preusmjeravanje smrtonosne lave u smjeru suprotom od naseljenih područja.

Vulkan La Cumbre Vieja na španjolskim Kanarskim otocima danas je ušao svoj 47. dan erupcije i tako izjednačio dosadađnji zabilježeni rekord iz 1949. godine. Oko 7000 mještana je dosad bilo prisiljeno napustiti svoje domove jer je lava, koja šiklja iz vulkana stotinu metara u zrak, devastirala domove, urede i velike površine zemlje diljem jugozapadnog dijela otoka, izvještava Live Science.

Prema posljednjem istraživanju koje je proveo europski satelitski sustav Copernicus, lava je uništila 2.519 zgrada i sada pokriva 9,4 četvorna kilometra. Budući da se otok priprema za još veća razaranja zbog niza potresa koji su potresli kopno posljednjih dana, Casimiro Curbelo, predsjednik općinskog vijeća La Gomera, susjednog otoka, sugerirao je da bi se tokovi lave mogli preusmjeriti kroz ekstremnije mjere - tako što će biti bombardirana iz aviona.

'Zar ne postoji avion koji bi mogao baciti koju bombu? Leti, baca i - bum! I šalje lavu u drugom smjeru.' Curbelo je još rekao, tijekom debate na Radio Faycánu: 'Možda je to ludost, ali s tehnološke točke gledišta imam dojam da bi to trebalo isprobati.'

Curbelov prijedlog izazvao je kritike i rezultirao mnoštvom memova koji ga prikazuju uz Brucea Willisa u filmu Armagedon, gdje je glumčev lik dobio zadatak da nuklearnom bombom uništi asteroid koji juri prema Zemlji.

No, unatoč ismijavanju, Curbelov neobičan prijedlog nije posve bez presedana. Godine 1935., kada je lava koja je tekla iz havajskog vulkana Mauna Loa počela opasno curiti prema gradu Hiloa, američka vojska, kojom je zapovijedao budući general George S. Patton, bacila je 20 bombi na rijeku lave. Nakon bombardiranja, protok lave je prestao, ali uspjeh misije je i dalje sporan. Piloti i geolozi koji su letjeli u toj misiji vjerovali su da se protok ionako usporava, a kasnije procjene Američkog geološkog zavoda podupiru zaključak da je njegovo zaustavljanje bilo slučajnost.

U novije vrijeme, 1983. godine, izveden je nešto uspješniji pokušaj i to korištenjem dinamita da se tok lave s Etne, koja je tada eruptirala, preusmjeri od obližnjeg sela. Inženjeri su stavili oko 400 kilograma eksploziva, zatvorenih u cijevima hlađenim vodom, pored toka. Cilj je bio izbaciti rijeku lave u umjetni rov. Prema riječima jednog od tadašnjih inženjera, eksperiment je bio potpuno uspješan. No, eksplozija je također podijelila drugi dio toka lave, zbog čega su se mnogi mještani morali požuriti na planinu da bi se lopatama borili s nepredvidivim novim rukavcima.

Španjolska vojska nije odgovorila na Curbelov prijedlog, kao ni španjolski premijer Pedro Sanchez. Međutim, Sanchez je obećao ubrzati isporuku pomoći očajnim stanovnicima. Erupcija zasad nije uzrokovala smrtne slučajeve, a život je ostao relativno neometan za 85.000 stanovnika koji žive daleko od teško pogođene zapadne strane otoka.

Bombardiranje kipućih tokova lave vulkana na La Palmi koji još uvijek eruptira mogao bi biti jedini način da se spriječi uništenje koje uzrokuju otopljeni potoci magme, sugerirao je španjolski političar. Bombardiranje bi se moglo upotrijebiti, prema njegovim riječima, za preusmjeravanje smrtonosne lave u smjeru suprotom od naseljenih područja.

Vulkan La Cumbre Vieja na španjolskim Kanarskim otocima danas je ušao svoj 47. dan erupcije i tako izjednačio dosadađnji zabilježeni rekord iz 1949. godine. Oko 7000 mještana je dosad bilo prisiljeno napustiti svoje domove jer je lava, koja šiklja iz vulkana stotinu metara u zrak, devastirala domove, urede i velike površine zemlje diljem jugozapadnog dijela otoka, izvještava Live Science.

Prema posljednjem istraživanju koje je proveo europski satelitski sustav Copernicus, lava je uništila 2.519 zgrada i sada pokriva 9,4 četvorna kilometra. Budući da se otok priprema za još veća razaranja zbog niza potresa koji su potresli kopno posljednjih dana, Casimiro Curbelo, predsjednik općinskog vijeća La Gomera, susjednog otoka, sugerirao je da bi se tokovi lave mogli preusmjeriti kroz ekstremnije mjere - tako što će biti bombardirana iz aviona.

Curbelov prijedlog izazvao je kritike i rezultirao mnoštvom memova koji ga prikazuju uz Brucea Willisa u filmu Armagedon, gdje je glumčev lik dobio zadatak da nuklearnom bombom uništi asteroid koji juri prema Zemlji.

No, unatoč ismijavanju, Curbelov neobičan prijedlog nije posve bez presedana. Godine 1935., kada je lava koja je tekla iz havajskog vulkana Mauna Loa počela opasno curiti prema gradu Hiloa, američka vojska, kojom je zapovijedao budući general George S. Patton, bacila je 20 bombi na rijeku lave. Nakon bombardiranja, protok lave je prestao, ali uspjeh misije je i dalje sporan. Piloti i geolozi koji su letjeli u toj misiji vjerovali su da se protok ionako usporava, a kasnije procjene Američkog geološkog zavoda podupiru zaključak da je njegovo zaustavljanje bilo slučajnost.

U novije vrijeme, 1983. godine, izveden je nešto uspješniji pokušaj i to korištenjem dinamita da se tok lave s Etne, koja je tada eruptirala, preusmjeri od obližnjeg sela. Inženjeri su stavili oko 400 kilograma eksploziva, zatvorenih u cijevima hlađenim vodom, pored toka. Cilj je bio izbaciti rijeku lave u umjetni rov. Prema riječima jednog od tadašnjih inženjera, eksperiment je bio potpuno uspješan. No, eksplozija je također podijelila drugi dio toka lave, zbog čega su se mnogi mještani morali požuriti na planinu da bi se lopatama borili s nepredvidivim novim rukavcima.

Španjolska vojska nije odgovorila na Curbelov prijedlog, kao ni španjolski premijer Pedro Sanchez. Međutim, Sanchez je obećao ubrzati isporuku pomoći očajnim stanovnicima. Erupcija zasad nije uzrokovala smrtne slučajeve, a život je ostao relativno neometan za 85.000 stanovnika koji žive daleko od teško pogođene zapadne strane otoka.

Bombardiranje kipućih tokova lave vulkana na La Palmi koji još uvijek eruptira mogao bi biti jedini način da se spriječi uništenje koje uzrokuju otopljeni potoci magme, sugerirao je španjolski političar. Bombardiranje bi se moglo upotrijebiti, prema njegovim riječima, za preusmjeravanje smrtonosne lave u smjeru suprotom od naseljenih područja.

Vulkan La Cumbre Vieja na španjolskim Kanarskim otocima danas je ušao svoj 47. dan erupcije i tako izjednačio dosadađnji zabilježeni rekord iz 1949. godine. Oko 7000 mještana je dosad bilo prisiljeno napustiti svoje domove jer je lava, koja šiklja iz vulkana stotinu metara u zrak, devastirala domove, urede i velike površine zemlje diljem jugozapadnog dijela otoka, izvještava Live Science.
