Nizozemski proizvođač medicinske opreme Philips objavio je u ponedjeljak da će povući dio respiratora zbog opasnosti raspada pjene na sitne, toksične čestice, koje mogu izazvati rak.
Pjena se koristi za prigušivanje zvuka uređaja, a može se raspasti na čestice koje se lako udišu i nadražuju dišne putove, priopćila je skupina u najavi opoziva.
U raspadu pjene nastaju plinovi koji također mogu biti toksični i uključuju opasnost obolijevanja od raka, navodi tvrtka.
Kompanija će povući između tri i četiri milijuna respiratora i strojeva za asistenciju pri disanju u slučaju apneje u snu, rekao je izvršni direktor Philipsa Frans van Houten.
Philips je u poslovnom izvješću za prvo tromjesečje objavio da je za rješenje tog problema izdvojio 250 milijuna eura, a sada planira izdvojiti još 250 milijuna.
„Upotrijebit ćemo sve svoje kapacitete i fokusirati se isključivo na zamjenu i popravak tih uređaja", rekao je Van Houten, dodajući da će im za to vjerojatno trebati godinu dana.
Zato nećemo moći opslužiti nove kupce, "pa će na tom području doći do nestašice", dodao je čelnik nizozemske tvrtke.
Philips sugerira korisnicima uređaja za asistenciju pri disanju u slučaju apneje u snu (CPAP) da ih prestanu koristiti. Oko dvije trećine tih uređaja prodaje se u SAD-u, napominje Reuters.
Liječnici koji pacijente održavaju na životu uz pomoć respiratora moraju odvagnuti je li moguća opasnost povezana s raspadom pjene veća od ostalih rizika, priopćila je tvrtka.
Glasnogovornik Philipsa Steve Klink rekao je da tvrtka surađuje sa zdravstvenim vlastima na sigurnoj zamjeni za pjenu, ali prvo mora proći provjere i ispuniti regulatorne zahtjeve.
Problem će negativno utjecati na prihod odjela koji proizvodi sporne uređaje, ali dobri rezultati u drugim dijelovima poslovanja nadoknadit će taj pad, procjenjuju u nizozemskoj tvrtki, potvrdivši smjernice za cijelu godinu.
U travnju Philips je objavio da je mu je temeljna dobit u prvom tromjesečju porasla za 74 posto, na 362 milijuna eura. Prihod mu je porastao devet posto, kada se isključe promjene valutnih tečajeva i jednokratni faktori.

Nizozemski proizvođač medicinske opreme Philips objavio je u ponedjeljak da će povući dio respiratora zbog opasnosti raspada pjene na sitne, toksične čestice, koje mogu izazvati rak.
Pjena se koristi za prigušivanje zvuka uređaja, a može se raspasti na čestice koje se lako udišu i nadražuju dišne putove, priopćila je skupina u najavi opoziva.
U raspadu pjene nastaju plinovi koji također mogu biti toksični i uključuju opasnost obolijevanja od raka, navodi tvrtka.
Kompanija će povući između tri i četiri milijuna respiratora i strojeva za asistenciju pri disanju u slučaju apneje u snu, rekao je izvršni direktor Philipsa Frans van Houten.
Philips je u poslovnom izvješću za prvo tromjesečje objavio da je za rješenje tog problema izdvojio 250 milijuna eura, a sada planira izdvojiti još 250 milijuna.
„Upotrijebit ćemo sve svoje kapacitete i fokusirati se isključivo na zamjenu i popravak tih uređaja", rekao je Van Houten, dodajući da će im za to vjerojatno trebati godinu dana.
Zato nećemo moći opslužiti nove kupce, "pa će na tom području doći do nestašice", dodao je čelnik nizozemske tvrtke.
Philips sugerira korisnicima uređaja za asistenciju pri disanju u slučaju apneje u snu (CPAP) da ih prestanu koristiti. Oko dvije trećine tih uređaja prodaje se u SAD-u, napominje Reuters.
Liječnici koji pacijente održavaju na životu uz pomoć respiratora moraju odvagnuti je li moguća opasnost povezana s raspadom pjene veća od ostalih rizika, priopćila je tvrtka.
Glasnogovornik Philipsa Steve Klink rekao je da tvrtka surađuje sa zdravstvenim vlastima na sigurnoj zamjeni za pjenu, ali prvo mora proći provjere i ispuniti regulatorne zahtjeve.
Problem će negativno utjecati na prihod odjela koji proizvodi sporne uređaje, ali dobri rezultati u drugim dijelovima poslovanja nadoknadit će taj pad, procjenjuju u nizozemskoj tvrtki, potvrdivši smjernice za cijelu godinu.
U travnju Philips je objavio da je mu je temeljna dobit u prvom tromjesečju porasla za 74 posto, na 362 milijuna eura. Prihod mu je porastao devet posto, kada se isključe promjene valutnih tečajeva i jednokratni faktori.
