U nadolazećim će satima američka svemirska agencija zabiti sondu u asteroid, javlja BBC. 

Nasina misija Dart želi vidjeti koliko bi bilo teško spriječiti veliki svemirski kamen da udari u Zemlju. Demonstracija se odvija nekih 11 milijuna kilometara daleko na meti zvanoj Dimorphos. Agencija kaže da kamen trenutno nije na putu da udari u Zemlju, niti će ga test slučajno poslati u našem smjeru. Udar je tempiran za 23:14 GMT, ponedjeljak (00:14 BST, utorak). Teleskopi će promatrati izdaleka, uključujući i one u novom svemirskom opservatoriju James Webb.

Razmišljanje kojim se vode je da bismo trebali samo malo promijeniti brzinu kamena kako bi promijenili njegovu putanju tako da promaši Zemlju s uvjetom da to treba učiniti dovoljno rano. Misija Double Asteroid Redirection Test (Dart) provjerit će ovu teoriju gotovo čeonim udarom u Dimorphos širok 160 m pri brzini od preko 20 000 km/h. Ovo bi trebalo promijeniti njegovu orbitu oko puno većeg asteroida, nazvanog Didymos i to za samo nekoliko minuta svaki dan.

"Dart je prva testna misija planetarne obrane koja demonstrira trčanje svemirske letjelice u asteroid kako bi se položaj tog asteroida malo pomaknuo u svemiru", objasnila je dr. Nancy Chabot koja iz Laboratorija za primijenjenu fiziku Sveučilišta Johns Hopkins vodi misiju za Nasu.

"Ovo je nešto što biste, ako vam je potrebno, učinili godinama unaprijed da samo malo pogurnete asteroid da promijeni svoju buduću poziciju kako se Zemlja i asteroid ne bi sudarili," rekla je za BBC News.

U nadolazećim će satima američka svemirska agencija zabiti sondu u asteroid, javlja BBC. 

Nasina misija Dart želi vidjeti koliko bi bilo teško spriječiti veliki svemirski kamen da udari u Zemlju. Demonstracija se odvija nekih 11 milijuna kilometara daleko na meti zvanoj Dimorphos. Agencija kaže da kamen trenutno nije na putu da udari u Zemlju, niti će ga test slučajno poslati u našem smjeru. Udar je tempiran za 23:14 GMT, ponedjeljak (00:14 BST, utorak). Teleskopi će promatrati izdaleka, uključujući i one u novom svemirskom opservatoriju James Webb.

Razmišljanje kojim se vode je da bismo trebali samo malo promijeniti brzinu kamena kako bi promijenili njegovu putanju tako da promaši Zemlju s uvjetom da to treba učiniti dovoljno rano. Misija Double Asteroid Redirection Test (Dart) provjerit će ovu teoriju gotovo čeonim udarom u Dimorphos širok 160 m pri brzini od preko 20 000 km/h. Ovo bi trebalo promijeniti njegovu orbitu oko puno većeg asteroida, nazvanog Didymos i to za samo nekoliko minuta svaki dan.

"Dart je prva testna misija planetarne obrane koja demonstrira trčanje svemirske letjelice u asteroid kako bi se položaj tog asteroida malo pomaknuo u svemiru", objasnila je dr. Nancy Chabot koja iz Laboratorija za primijenjenu fiziku Sveučilišta Johns Hopkins vodi misiju za Nasu.

"Ovo je nešto što biste, ako vam je potrebno, učinili godinama unaprijed da samo malo pogurnete asteroid da promijeni svoju buduću poziciju kako se Zemlja i asteroid ne bi sudarili," rekla je za BBC News.

U nadolazećim će satima američka svemirska agencija zabiti sondu u asteroid, javlja BBC. 

Nasina misija Dart želi vidjeti koliko bi bilo teško spriječiti veliki svemirski kamen da udari u Zemlju. Demonstracija se odvija nekih 11 milijuna kilometara daleko na meti zvanoj Dimorphos. Agencija kaže da kamen trenutno nije na putu da udari u Zemlju, niti će ga test slučajno poslati u našem smjeru. Udar je tempiran za 23:14 GMT, ponedjeljak (00:14 BST, utorak). Teleskopi će promatrati izdaleka, uključujući i one u novom svemirskom opservatoriju James Webb.

Razmišljanje kojim se vode je da bismo trebali samo malo promijeniti brzinu kamena kako bi promijenili njegovu putanju tako da promaši Zemlju s uvjetom da to treba učiniti dovoljno rano. Misija Double Asteroid Redirection...
