Američki State Department još istražuje slučajeve neobične i misteriozne bolesti nakon što su koncem godine dvojica dužnosnika u Washingtonu doživjela iznenadne simptome slične onima poznatim kao havanski sindrom. Taj su sindrom prvi  osjetili američki diplomati u veleposlanstvu u Havani zbog čega je nazvan tako.

'Havana sindrom' podrazumijeva neobične zvukove u ušima, zujanje praćeno vrtoglavicom, mučninom, jakom glavoboljama i gubitkom pamćenja, što u nekim slučajevima može potrajati godinama. Jedan službenik CIA-e prošle godine bio je prisiljen povući se nakon što mu je dijagnosticirana traumatična ozljeda mozga.

Koncem godine sindrom je zabilježen i na američkom tlu kad je u blizini velikog travnjaka na južnoj strani Bijele kuće jednom dužnosniku iznenada pozlilo. Danima ga je mučila glavobolja i nesanica, a simptomi su nestali nakon tjedan dana. Drugi dužnosnik napad je također imao u blizini ulaza u Bijelu kuću.

Kako navodi CNN, zaposlenik je doživio nešto ozbiljnije simptome i zatražio je medicinsku pomoć. Više izvora za CNN također je potvrdilo da je bolest dijagnosticirana kod dvoje dužnosnika Vijeća za nacionalnu sigurnost u studenom 2020., jedan - dan nakon predsjedničkih izbora, a drugi nekoliko tjedana kasnije. Inače, od havanskog sindroma oboljelo je više od 100 američkih diplomata, špijuna i vojnika širom svijeta. Obavještajna zajednica još uvijek nije sigurna tko ili što uzrokuje niz simptoma živčanog sustava, što izaziva zabrinutost. Raspravlja se i o tehnologiji koja bi mogla uzrokovati takve simptome.

CNN je razgovarao sa desetak sadašnjih i bivših dužnosnika koji su znali da se istražuju nepoznati zdravstveni incidenti. Navode kako se punih pet godina istražitelji trude objasniti neobična iskustva o kojima su svjedočili američki diplomati i drugi vladini zaposlenici na Kubi, u Rusiji, Kini i drugdje.

Osobe koje su bile pogođene opisale su kako bi iznenada doživjele vrtoglavicu, glavobolju i pritisak u glavi, ponekad popraćen neobičnom bukom i zujanjem.

U izvješću Nacionalne akademije za znanost i inženjerstvo navodi se kako simptomi odgovaraju "učincima energije usmjerene pulsirajuće radijske frekvencije", no neki su akademici tu teoriju napada mikrovalnom energijom javno odbacili. Koncem godine dužnosnici Ministarstva obrane izvijestili su o incidentima članove Odbora za oružane snage u Senatu i Zastupničkom domu.

CNN navodi kako obavještajni i obrambeni dužnosnici nerado govore o čudnim incidentima, a neki koji su bili pogođeni požalili su se, da CIA u početku nije ozbiljno shvatila moguće napade. Napadi su, pišu, na kraju doveli do smanjenja broja zaposlenih u straži veleposlanstva u Havani.

Dužnosnici Ministarstva obrane koji su informirali zastupnike još za vrijeme Trumpova mandata rekli su da je moguće da Rusija stoji iza incidenta iako nije poznato što bi ih moglo pokretati. Pred kraj Trumpove administracije, Pentagon je pokušao preuzeti rješavanje problema smatrajući da CIA i State Department ne čine dovoljno. Chris Miller, koji je u to vrijeme vršio dužnost ministra obrane, za CNN je izjavio da su čelnici Pentagona sastavili radnu skupinu za praćenje izvještaja o takvim simptomima koji pogađaju osoblje Ministarstva obrane u inozemstvu.

Miller je rekao da je izvješća o tim simptomima počeo doživljavati ozbiljno nakon razgovora s jednom žrtvom koja je imala bogato vojničko iskustvo. „Kada mi je taj časnik sve objasnio u vojničkom stilu, shvatio je da je ovo stvarno. On je već bio u velikim borbama i znao je što govori“, rekao je Miller koji je imenovao Griffina Deckera, državnog službenika iz američkog Zapovjedništva za specijalne operacije, kako bi pratio havanski sindrom.

Neki dužnosnici koji pomno istražuju havanski sindrom sugeriraju da, ako strani protivnik koristi neku vrstu usmjerenog energetskog oružja, namjera možda nije uznemiravanje ili zdravstveno sakaćenje američkog osoblja, nego prikupljanje podataka s njihovih mobitela.

Novi incidenti, uključujući one koncem godine u Washingtonu, izazvali su sve veću frustraciju među zakonodavcima na Capitol Hillu, koji kažu da obavještajna zajednica Kongresu nije pružila dovoljno informacija o tome što zna.  

"Zaprepaštena sam da su se mnogi od ovih ljudi koji su ozlijeđeni u vršenju svoje dužnosti morali boriti da bi dobili odgovarajuću medicinsku njegu i da im se priznaju oboljenja - komentirala je senatorica Susan Collins Maine.

Zastupnici u Odboru za obavještajne i oružane službe zahtijevaju dodatne detalje te pozivaju obavještajne dužnosnike da skinu oznaku tajnosti s podataka o sindromu. Zakonodavci su pohvalili predanost direktora CIA-e Williama Burnsa po ovom pitanju.

Američki State Department još istražuje slučajeve neobične i misteriozne bolesti nakon što su koncem godine dvojica dužnosnika u Washingtonu doživjela iznenadne simptome slične onima poznatim kao havanski sindrom. Taj su sindrom prvi  osjetili američki diplomati u veleposlanstvu u Havani zbog čega je nazvan tako.

'Havana sindrom' podrazumijeva neobične zvukove u ušima, zujanje praćeno vrtoglavicom, mučninom, jakom glavoboljama i gubitkom pamćenja, što u nekim slučajevima može potrajati godinama. Jedan službenik CIA-e prošle godine bio je prisiljen povući se nakon što mu je dijagnosticirana traumatična ozljeda mozga.

Koncem godine sindrom je zabilježen i na američkom tlu kad je u blizini velikog travnjaka na južnoj strani Bijele kuće jednom dužnosniku iznenada pozlilo. Danima ga je mučila glavobolja i nesanica, a simptomi su nestali nakon tjedan dana. Drugi dužnosnik napad je također imao u blizini ulaza u Bijelu kuću.

Kako navodi CNN, zaposlenik je doživio nešto ozbiljnije simptome i zatražio je medicinsku pomoć. Više izvora za CNN također je potvrdilo da je bolest dijagnosticirana kod dvoje dužnosnika Vijeća za nacionalnu sigurnost u studenom 2020., jedan - dan nakon predsjedničkih izbora, a drugi nekoliko tjedana kasnije. Inače, od havanskog sindroma oboljelo je više od 100 američkih diplomata, špijuna i vojnika širom svijeta. Obavještajna zajednica još uvijek nije sigurna tko ili što uzrokuje niz simptoma živčanog sustava, što izaziva zabrinutost. Raspravlja se i o tehnologiji koja bi mogla uzrokovati takve simptome.

CNN je razgovarao sa desetak sadašnjih i bivših dužnosnika koji su znali da se istražuju nepoznati zdravstveni incidenti. Navode kako se punih pet godina istražitelji trude objasniti neobična iskustva o kojima su svjedočili američki diplomati i drugi vladini zaposlenici na Kubi, u Rusiji, Kini i drugdje.

Osobe koje su bile pogođene opisale su kako bi iznenada doživjele vrtoglavicu, glavobolju i pritisak u glavi, ponekad popraćen neobičnom bukom i zujanjem.

U izvješću Nacionalne akademije za znanost i inženjerstvo navodi se kako simptomi odgovaraju "učincima energije usmjerene pulsirajuće radijske frekvencije", no neki su akademici tu teoriju napada mikrovalnom energijom javno odbacili. Koncem godine dužnosnici Ministarstva obrane izvijestili su o incidentima članove Odbora za oružane snage u Senatu i Zastupničkom domu.

CNN navodi kako obavještajni i obrambeni dužnosnici nerado govore o čudnim incidentima, a neki koji su bili pogođeni požalili su se, da CIA u početku nije ozbiljno shvatila moguće napade. Napadi su, pišu, na kraju doveli do smanjenja broja zaposlenih u straži veleposlanstva u Havani.

Dužnosnici Ministarstva obrane koji su informirali zastupnike još za vrijeme Trumpova mandata rekli su da je moguće da Rusija stoji iza incidenta iako nije poznato što bi ih moglo pokretati. Pred kraj Trumpove administracije, Pentagon je pokušao preuzeti rješavanje problema smatrajući da CIA i State Department ne čine dovoljno. Chris Miller, koji je u to vrijeme vršio dužnost ministra obrane, za CNN je izjavio da su čelnici Pentagona sastavili radnu skupinu za praćenje izvještaja o takvim simptomima koji pogađaju osoblje Ministarstva obrane u inozemstvu.

Miller je rekao da je izvješća o tim simptomima počeo doživljavati ozbiljno nakon razgovora s jednom žrtvom koja je imala bogato vojničko iskustvo. „Kada mi je taj časnik sve objasnio u vojničkom stilu, shvatio je da je ovo stvarno. On je već bio u velikim borbama i znao je što govori“, rekao je Miller koji je imenovao Griffina Deckera, državnog službenika iz američkog Zapovjedništva za specijalne operacije, kako bi pratio havanski sindrom.

Neki dužnosnici koji pomno istražuju havanski sindrom sugeriraju da, ako strani protivnik koristi neku vrstu usmjerenog energetskog oružja, namjera možda nije uznemiravanje ili zdravstveno sakaćenje američkog osoblja, nego prikupljanje podataka s njihovih mobitela.

Novi incidenti, uključujući one koncem godine u Washingtonu, izazvali su sve veću frustraciju među zakonodavcima na Capitol Hillu, koji kažu da obavještajna zajednica Kongresu nije pružila dovoljno informacija o tome što zna.  

"Zaprepaštena sam da su se mnogi od ovih ljudi koji su ozlijeđeni u vršenju svoje dužnosti morali boriti da bi dobili odgovarajuću medicinsku njegu i da im se priznaju oboljenja - komentirala je senatorica Susan Collins Maine.

Zastupnici u Odboru za obavještajne i oružane službe zahtijevaju dodatne detalje te pozivaju obavještajne dužnosnike da skinu oznaku tajnosti s podataka o sindromu. Zakonodavci su pohvalili predanost direktora CIA-e Williama Burnsa po ovom pitanju.
