Liječnici u Južnoj Africi izvijestili su da novi soj omikron uzrokuje blage simptome - poput glavobolje i umora - i da zasad nije doveo do niti jedne hospitalizacije ili smrti.
Njemački zdravstveni stručnjak, profesor Karl Lauterbach, klinički epidemiolog i kandidat za budućeg njemačkog ministra zdravstva, rekao je da ova rana izvješća znače da bi omikron mogao biti pravi "božićni dar" koji će možda čak i ubrzati kraj pandemije.

Sugerirao je da golem broj mutacija – čak 32 na proteinu šiljaka – može značiti da će zaraza biti puno manje smrtonosna, u skladu s načinom na koji se razvija većina drugih respiratornih virusa.
S njim se slaže i profesor Paul Hunter, stručnjak za zarazne bolesti na Sveučilištu East Anglia, koji smatra kako bi se Lauterbachova teorija "mogla pokazati istinitom", no ističe da i jako mutirana varijanta nije potpuno neprepoznatljiva za imunološki sustav preboljelih ili cijepljenih, što je također pozitivan znak.
Znanstvenici već dugo upozoravaju da je malo vjerojatno kako će koronavirus ikada biti iskorijenjen, već će prijeći u blaži virus sličan prehladi, piše Daily Mail, a prenosi Jutarnji.hr.

Međutim, stručnjaci upozoravaju da im je potrebno najmanje dva tjedna kako bi se utvrdilo kakav će učinak imati varijanta omikron, a toliko je potrebno i za potvrdu je li ovaj mutirani soj zaista puno zarazniji od delte, odnosno je li otporan na cjepiva.
Nova varijanta prvi je put otkrivena prošlog tjedna, a većina slučajeva koncentrirana je u Južnoj Africi, gdje je broj dnevnih infekcija u subotu skočio na 6.048, što je 20-struko povećanje u odnosu na 306 pozitivnih testova registriranih dva tjedna ranije. No smrtni slučajevi su do sada ostali na istom nivou, a u subotu ih je zabilježeno 20.
Liječnici su rekli da su simptomi među pacijentima blagi i uključuju ekstremni umor, bolove u mišićima i glavobolju, bolno grlo i suhi kašalj. Međutim, prvi slučajevi omikrona dosad su pronađeni kod mlađih ljudi, koji i inače imaju blaže simptome virusa, pa bi simptomi i njihova težina mogli biti drugačiji kako će se omikron širi među starije dobne skupine.

- Ono što vidimo u Južnoj Africi izuzetno je blago. Zaraženi su se dobro oporavili kod kuće i ozdravili su u roku od dva do tri dana - rekla je za BBC dr. Angelique Coetzee, predsjednica Južnoafričkog liječničkog udruženja i prva osoba koja je uočila novu varijantu kod pacijenta.
Lauterbach je i na svom Twitteru objavio kako bi omikron kao manje teška verzija virusa bio stvarno "rani božićni dar", no i on upozorava na činjenicu da je samo šest posto stanovnika Južne Afrike starije od 65 godina.
U Njemačkoj je, pak, situacija suprotna. Profesor Hunter kaže da su izvještaji o manje teškim oboljenjima zasad još anegdotalni i u njih se ne može previše pouzdati.
- Ako doista uzrokuje manje teške bolesti, to je vjerojatno posljedica prethodnog imuniteta ili od infekcije ili cijepljenja - ističe.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, američki glavni medicinski savjetnik, rekao je da će “proći još otprilike dva tjedna” dok stručnjaci ne dobiju preciznije informacije o prenosivosti i ozbiljnosti bolesti, prenosi Jutarnji.hr.

S njim se slaže i profesor Paul Hunter, stručnjak za zarazne bolesti na Sveučilištu East Anglia, koji smatra kako bi se Lauterbachova teorija "mogla pokazati istinitom", no ističe da i jako mutirana varijanta nije potpuno neprepoznatljiva za imunološki sustav preboljelih ili cijepljenih, što je također pozitivan znak.
Znanstvenici već dugo upozoravaju da je malo vjerojatno kako će koronavirus ikada biti iskorijenjen, već će prijeći u blaži virus sličan prehladi, piše Daily Mail, a prenosi Jutarnji.hr.

Međutim, stručnjaci upozoravaju da im je potrebno najmanje dva tjedna kako bi se utvrdilo kakav će učinak imati varijanta omikron, a toliko je potrebno i za potvrdu je li ovaj mutirani soj zaista puno zarazniji od delte, odnosno je li otporan na cjepiva.
Nova varijanta prvi je put otkrivena prošlog tjedna, a većina slučajeva koncentrirana je u Južnoj Africi, gdje je broj dnevnih infekcija u subotu skočio na 6.048, što je 20-struko povećanje u odnosu na 306 pozitivnih testova registriranih dva tjedna ranije. No smrtni slučajevi su do sada ostali na istom nivou, a u subotu ih je zabilježeno 20.
Liječnici su rekli da su simptomi među pacijentima blagi i uključuju ekstremni umor, bolove u mišićima i glavobolju, bolno grlo i suhi kašalj. Međutim, prvi slučajevi omikrona dosad su pronađeni kod mlađih ljudi, koji i inače imaju blaže simptome virusa, pa bi simptomi i njihova težina mogli biti drugačiji kako će se omikron širi među starije dobne skupine.

- Ono što vidimo u Južnoj Africi izuzetno je blago. Zaraženi su se dobro oporavili kod kuće i ozdravili su u roku od dva do tri dana - rekla je za BBC dr. Angelique Coetzee, predsjednica Južnoafričkog liječničkog udruženja i prva osoba koja je uočila novu varijantu kod pacijenta.
Lauterbach je i na svom Twitteru objavio kako bi omikron kao manje teška verzija virusa bio stvarno "rani božićni dar", no i on upozorava na činjenicu da je samo šest posto stanovnika Južne Afrike starije od 65 godina.
U Njemačkoj je, pak, situacija suprotna. Profesor Hunter kaže da su izvještaji o manje teškim oboljenjima zasad još anegdotalni i u njih se ne može previše pouzdati.
- Ako doista uzrokuje manje teške bolesti, to je vjerojatno posljedica prethodnog imuniteta ili od infekcije ili cijepljenja - ističe.
