Pola stoljeća nakon što je mala skupina radikala osnovala Greeenpeace, čelnica te globalne organizacije za zaštitu okoliša upozorila je da još puno toga treba učiniti za klimu prije nego što se zaista bude moglo slaviti.

Osnovan 15. rujna 1971., kada je istoimeni brod pokušao zaustaviti američki nuklearni test, Greenpeace je postao jedna od najpoznatijih aktivističkih skupina na svijetu zahvaljujući akcijama kojima su često dospijevali na naslovnice.

No pedeseti rođendan organizacije bit će najvjerojatnije skromno obilježen, kazala je Jennifer Morgan, izvršna direktorica Greenpeacea za AFP.

„Sad nemamo što puno slaviti. U klimatskoj smo krizi”, rekla je Morgan u intervjuu u sjedištu organizacije u skromnoj uredskoj četvrti u predgrađu Amsterdama.

Morgan je kazala da je „duboko zabrinuta” da odgovor svijeta na krizu na važnom klimatskom samitu COP26 u Glasgowu u listopadu neće biti dovoljan.

„Imajući u vidu sve što smo učinili u ovih 50 godina, sada moramo udružiti snage i usmjeriti ih u apsolutno radikalnu i duboku promjenu. Vrijeme istječe”.

Promijeniti svijet

Priča o Greenpeaceu počela je idealistički, premda neuspješno, s prvim isplovljavanjem iz Vancouvera.

Pokušaj broda Greenpeacea da zaustavi nuklearni test kod obale Aljaske prekinula je intervencija policije.

Od tada organizacija među svoja postignuća upisuje doprinos zaustavljanju komercijalnog lova na kitove, akcije protiv kompanija koje iskorištavaju fosilna goriva, borbu za zaustavljanje ilegalnog odlaganja otrovnog otpada i zaštitu Antarktike, kazala je Morgan.

Okružena uspomenama na Greenpeaceovu povijest, uključujući šarene postere i brodska vrata koja su 2013. izudarali ruski dužnosnici, Morgan je kazala da su temeljna načela organizacije ostala ista sve do danas.

„Greenpeace je pokrenut kao ideja da pojedinci s idejom i malo nade mogu promijeniti svijet”, kazala je Morgan, koja je preuzela kormilo organizacije 2016.

„Mislim da je u 50 godina Greenpeace postigao čudesne stvari”.

Osim trijumfa bilo je i tragedija.

Godine 1985, francuska tajna služba bombardirala je Greenpeaceov najpoznatiji brod „Rainbow Warrior” dok je bio u luci u Aucklandu na Novom Zelandu. Pritom je poginuo portugalski fotograf Fernando Pereira.

Probuditi nadu

Greenpeace je od svojih početaka jako narastao i sada ima 3500 djelatnika u 55 zemalja, gotovo kao i neke od multinacionalnih kompanija koje su mu meta.

No Morgan inzistira da su i dalje „radikalni” unatoč tome što su se pojavili mlađi konkurenti kao što je organizacija Extinction Rebellion, koja je privukla veliku pozornost svojim akcijama poput blokada cesta i mostova i aktivistima zalijepljenima za zgrade.

Morgan je kazala da Greenpeace sad više surađuje s drugim organizacijama za zaštitu okoliša i domorodačkim narodima, što su po njezinu mišljenju trebali činiti i češće.

Bit će i na samitu COP 26, koji smatra „ključnim trenutkom za planet”, a boji se da ga države neće iskoristiti.

„Duboko sam zabrinuta, sad vidim da vlade postupaju gotovo kao da smo se vratili u 1980-te u smislu razine hitnosti za klimu", kazala je.

Pozvala je da se samit odgodi ako zemlje u razvoju ne budu mogle sudjelovati zbog manjka cjepiva protiv covida-19.

Greenpeace je za svoj rođendan planirao manje proslave u uredima širom svijeta u četvrtak.

Na proslavi u Njemačkoj u kolovozu kancelarka Angela Merkel pohvalila je Greenpeace kao „upornu, borbenu, nepokolebljivu i uvjerljivu” organizaciju.

Što očekuje Greenpeace u idućih 50 godina?

„Mislim da bi cilj trebao biti da Greenpeace više ne postoji”, kazala je Morgan.

Ali pretpostavljajući da ih očekuje još bitki, Morgan se nada da će Greenpeace svojim djelovanjem pridonijeti da svijet učini okret u borbi s klimatskim promjenama i probudi nadu.

Pola stoljeća nakon što je mala skupina radikala osnovala Greeenpeace, čelnica te globalne organizacije za zaštitu okoliša upozorila je da još puno toga treba učiniti za klimu prije nego što se zaista bude moglo slaviti.

Osnovan 15. rujna 1971., kada je istoimeni brod pokušao zaustaviti američki nuklearni test, Greenpeace je postao jedna od najpoznatijih aktivističkih skupina na svijetu zahvaljujući akcijama kojima su često dospijevali na naslovnice.

No pedeseti rođendan organizacije bit će najvjerojatnije skromno obilježen, kazala je Jennifer Morgan, izvršna direktorica Greenpeacea za AFP.

„Sad nemamo što puno slaviti. U klimatskoj smo krizi”, rekla je Morgan u intervjuu u sjedištu organizacije u skromnoj uredskoj četvrti u predgrađu Amsterdama.

Morgan je kazala da je „duboko zabrinuta” da odgovor svijeta na krizu na važnom klimatskom samitu COP26 u Glasgowu u listopadu neće biti dovoljan.

„Imajući u vidu sve što smo učinili u ovih 50 godina, sada moramo udružiti snage i usmjeriti ih u apsolutno radikalnu i duboku promjenu. Vrijeme istječe”.

Promijeniti svijet

Priča o Greenpeaceu počela je idealistički, premda neuspješno, s prvim isplovljavanjem iz Vancouvera.

Pokušaj broda Greenpeacea da zaustavi nuklearni test kod obale Aljaske prekinula je intervencija policije.

Od tada organizacija među svoja postignuća upisuje doprinos zaustavljanju komercijalnog lova na kitove, akcije protiv kompanija koje iskorištavaju fosilna goriva, borbu za zaustavljanje ilegalnog odlaganja otrovnog otpada i zaštitu Antarktike, kazala je Morgan.

Okružena uspomenama na Greenpeaceovu povijest, uključujući šarene postere i brodska vrata koja su 2013. izudarali ruski dužnosnici, Morgan je kazala da su temeljna načela organizacije ostala ista sve do danas.

„Greenpeace je pokrenut kao ideja da pojedinci s idejom i malo nade mogu promijeniti svijet”, kazala je Morgan, koja je preuzela kormilo organizacije 2016.

„Mislim da je u 50 godina Greenpeace postigao čudesne stvari”.

Osim trijumfa bilo je i tragedija.

Godine 1985, francuska tajna služba bombardirala je Greenpeaceov najpoznatiji brod „Rainbow Warrior” dok je bio u luci u Aucklandu na Novom Zelandu. Pritom je poginuo portugalski fotograf Fernando Pereira.

Probuditi nadu

Greenpeace je od svojih početaka jako narastao i sada ima 3500 djelatnika u 55 zemalja, gotovo kao i neke od multinacionalnih kompanija koje su mu meta.

No Morgan inzistira da su i dalje „radikalni” unatoč tome što su se pojavili mlađi konkurenti kao što je organizacija Extinction Rebellion, koja je privukla veliku pozornost svojim akcijama poput blokada cesta i mostova i aktivistima zalijepljenima za zgrade.

Morgan je kazala da Greenpeace sad više surađuje s drugim organizacijama za zaštitu okoliša i domorodačkim narodima, što su po njezinu mišljenju trebali činiti i češće.

Bit će i na samitu COP 26, koji smatra „ključnim trenutkom za planet”, a boji se da ga države neće iskoristiti.

„Duboko sam zabrinuta, sad vidim da vlade postupaju gotovo kao da smo se vratili u 1980-te u smislu razine hitnosti za klimu", kazala je.

Pozvala je da se samit odgodi ako zemlje u razvoju ne budu mogle sudjelovati zbog manjka cjepiva protiv covida-19.

Greenpeace je za svoj rođendan planirao manje proslave u uredima širom svijeta u četvrtak.

Na proslavi u Njemačkoj u kolovozu kancelarka Angela Merkel pohvalila je Greenpeace kao „upornu, borbenu, nepokolebljivu i uvjerljivu” organizaciju.

Što očekuje Greenpeace u idućih 50 godina?

„Mislim da bi cilj trebao biti da Greenpeace više ne postoji”, kazala je Morgan.

Ali pretpostavljajući da ih očekuje još bitki, Morgan se nada da će Greenpeace svojim djelovanjem pridonijeti da svijet učini okret u borbi s klimatskim promjenama i probudi nadu.
