Mary Louise Kelly iz NPR-a je prije mjesec dana, točnije 15. veljače, razgovarala s američko-ruskim nezavisnim novinarom Vladimirom Poznerom o stavu ruske javnosti prema tadašnijim tenzijama između Rusije i Ukrajine.

Zašto obični ljudi u Rusiji vjeruju da njihova zemlja drži sve te trupe, sve te tenkove na granici Ukrajine?

Pa, prije svega, možda ćete se iznenaditi kad znate da ljudi o tome ne pričaju puno. Nema tog stalnog bubnjanja o mogućnosti rata. Tamo je. Na televiziji je. Nema sumnje u to. Ali kad se ljudi okupe, ne pričaju puno o tome. Smatraju da je pretjerano. Oni su apsolutno sigurni - barem većina njih - da Rusija ne želi rat i da rata neće biti. Ono što se događa je da obje strane pokušavaju pokazati tko je veći, a tko jači i tko je gazda, a mnogi ljudi smatraju da je to glupo. A ljudi kažu: 'Vidi, ovo je naša zemlja. Vojske su u našoj zemlji i trebale bi moći biti gdje god žele.'

Istina je da je Rusija jako velika zemlja, ali nije li čudno da trenutno ima nekih 130.000 vojnika na granici s Ukrajinom?

Pa, brojke su različite. Neki kažu 100. Neki kažu 97. Mislim da to nije poanta. Većina ljudi s kojima sam razgovarao ima osjećaj da je cijelo ovo nabijanje mogućnosti ili stvarnosti da Rusija napada Ukrajinu nešto što Zapad zanima i što Rusija ne želi jer Rusija ništa ne može dobiti invazijom na Ukrajinu. Naprotiv, može puno izgubiti. Ne samo da bi to bila vrsta dugotrajnog gerilskog ratovanja, što Rusija zapravo ne može podnijeti. To bi bilo potpuno uništenje svake vrste poštovanja prema Rusiji. Nema se što osvojiti, a puno izgubiti. A ima ljudi koji kažu da je to upravo ono što Zapad želi.

Želim se nadovezati na nešto što tamo govorite – da je većina Rusa apsolutno sigurna da Rusija ne želi rat. Fascinantno jer je to potpuno suprotno od onoga što mnogi Amerikanci čuju i Europljani čuju, a to je da Vladimir Putin gleda kako započeti borbu ovdje.

Pa, evo poruke - mi ne želimo rat. Ne želimo rat. Ne želimo rat. A sa strane Zapada je sasvim suprotno. Većina ljudi je, po mom mišljenju, žrtva medijskog izvještsvanja. Stvarno to mislim. Mislim da su se novinari ponašali jako, jako - kako da to kažem? - neodgovorno u načinu na koji se odnose prema ovoj temi.

Kažete da većina Rusa ne priča puno o tome. Prate li ruski mediji uopće tu situaciju?

Rusi ne pričaju puno o tome. Ali, da, ruski mediji definitivno govore o tome. Na televiziji ima dosta toga o tome. Puno o tome što Putin govori, puno se citira o onome što je Zapad rekao. To su otvorene informacije. Činjenica da čujete ono što obje strane govore, znači da dobivate lijepu, rekao bih, široku sliku onoga što se općenito govori.

Na što pazite u ovim nadolazećim danima koji se čine ključnim trenutkom u smislu kako će se odigrati situacija s obračunom na granici između Rusije i Ukrajine.

Ne radi se o granici Rusije i Ukrajine. Riječ je o dubokom osjećaju ruskog vodstva da bi to, u slučaju da Ukrajina postane članica NATO-a, predstavljalo egzistencijalnu prijetnju Rusiji. Vrlo je slično kao 1962. i pitanje sovjetskih projektila na kubanskom tlu, na što su imali pravo, na što su se složile dvije nezavisne zemlje. A Sjedinjene Države su - sasvim ispravno, po mom mišljenju - to shvatile kao egzistencijalnu prijetnju i rekle su 'mi to nećemo dopustiti'. A ako moramo potopiti vaše brodove i bombardirati Kubu, mi ćemo to učiniti. A hoće li to dovesti do Trećeg svjetskog rata ili ne, zapravo nije važno.

I tako, na neki način, rusko vodstvo gleda na mogućnost da se NATO trupe nađu na granici Rusije s Ukrajinom. To je pravi problem. Ako se taj problem može nekako riješiti, ako Ukrajinci nekako kažu, OK, mi nećemo u NATO; zaboravite na to, a mi jamčimo da neće biti problema. To je pitanje - sigurnost kako je vidi rusko vodstvo.

Budući da spominjete kubansku raketnu krizu 1962., pretpostavljam da je vrijedno napomenuti da to ove zemlje nije dovelo na rub rata. Uspjele su ga izbjeći.

Da. Ali, znate, Sjedinjene Države su povukle 15 ABM projektila koje su imale u Turskoj, a da o tome nisu dizale veliku buku. I Rusi su okrenuli svoje brodove i otplovili natrag u Rusiju. Dakle, dvojica vođa, Hruščov i Kennedy, imali su mudrosti i snage za to. I samo se nadam da će gospodin Putin i predsjednik Biden, koji su zapravo najvažniji igrači u ovoj igri, pronaći način da se nose s izuzetno opasnom situacijom.

Mary Louise Kelly iz NPR-a je prije mjesec dana, točnije 15. veljače, razgovarala s američko-ruskim nezavisnim novinarom Vladimirom Poznerom o stavu ruske javnosti prema tadašnijim tenzijama između Rusije i Ukrajine.

Zašto obični ljudi u Rusiji vjeruju da njihova zemlja drži sve te trupe, sve te tenkove na granici Ukrajine?

Pa, prije svega, možda ćete se iznenaditi kad znate da ljudi o tome ne pričaju puno. Nema tog stalnog bubnjanja o mogućnosti rata. Tamo je. Na televiziji je. Nema sumnje u to. Ali kad se ljudi okupe, ne pričaju puno o tome. Smatraju da je pretjerano. Oni su apsolutno sigurni - barem većina njih - da Rusija ne želi rat i da rata neće biti. Ono što se događa je da obje strane pokušavaju pokazati tko je veći, a tko jači i tko je gazda, a mnogi ljudi smatraju da je to glupo. A ljudi kažu: 'Vidi, ovo je naša zemlja. Vojske su u našoj zemlji i trebale bi moći biti gdje god žele.'

Istina je da je Rusija jako velika zemlja, ali nije li čudno da trenutno ima nekih 130.000 vojnika na granici s Ukrajinom?

Pa, brojke su različite. Neki kažu 100. Neki kažu 97. Mislim da to nije poanta. Većina ljudi s kojima sam razgovarao ima osjećaj da je cijelo ovo nabijanje mogućnosti ili stvarnosti da Rusija napada Ukrajinu nešto što Zapad zanima i što Rusija ne želi jer Rusija ništa ne može dobiti invazijom na Ukrajinu. Naprotiv, može puno izgubiti. Ne samo da bi to bila vrsta dugotrajnog gerilskog ratovanja, što Rusija zapravo ne može podnijeti. To bi bilo potpuno uništenje svake vrste poštovanja prema Rusiji. Nema se što osvojiti, a puno izgubiti. A ima ljudi koji kažu da je to upravo ono što Zapad želi.

Želim se nadovezati na nešto što tamo govorite – da je većina Rusa apsolutno sigurna da Rusija ne želi rat. Fascinantno jer je to potpuno suprotno od onoga što mnogi Amerikanci čuju i Europljani čuju, a to je da Vladimir Putin gleda kako započeti borbu ovdje.

Pa, evo poruke - mi ne želimo rat. Ne želimo rat. Ne želimo rat. A sa strane Zapada je sasvim suprotno. Većina ljudi je, po mom mišljenju, žrtva medijskog izvještsvanja. Stvarno to mislim. Mislim da su se novinari ponašali jako, jako - kako da to kažem? - neodgovorno u načinu na koji se odnose prema ovoj temi.

Kažete da većina Rusa ne priča puno o tome. Prate li ruski mediji uopće tu situaciju?

Rusi ne pričaju puno o tome. Ali, da, ruski mediji definitivno govore o tome. Na televiziji ima dosta toga o tome. Puno o tome što Putin govori, puno se citira o onome što je Zapad rekao. To su otvorene informacije. Činjenica da čujete ono što obje strane govore, znači da dobivate lijepu, rekao bih, široku sliku onoga što se općenito govori.

Na što pazite u ovim nadolazećim danima koji se čine ključnim trenutkom u smislu kako će se odigrati situacija s obračunom na granici između Rusije i Ukrajine.

Ne radi se o granici Rusije i Ukrajine. Riječ je o dubokom osjećaju ruskog vodstva da bi to, u slučaju da Ukrajina postane članica NATO-a, predstavljalo egzistencijalnu prijetnju Rusiji. Vrlo je slično kao 1962. i pitanje sovjetskih projektila na kubanskom tlu, na što su imali pravo, na što su se složile dvije nezavisne zemlje. A Sjedinjene Države su - sasvim ispravno, po mom mišljenju - to shvatile kao egzistencijalnu prijetnju i rekle su 'mi to nećemo dopustiti'. A ako moramo potopiti vaše brodove i bombardirati Kubu, mi ćemo to učiniti. A hoće li to dovesti do Trećeg svjetskog rata ili ne, zapravo nije važno.

I tako, na neki način, rusko vodstvo gleda na mogućnost da se NATO trupe nađu na granici Rusije s Ukrajinom. To je pravi problem. Ako se taj problem može nekako riješiti, ako Ukrajinci nekako kažu, OK, mi nećemo u NATO; zaboravite na to, a mi jamčimo da neće biti problema. To je pitanje - sigurnost kako je vidi rusko vodstvo.

Budući da spominjete kubansku raketnu krizu 1962., pretpostavljam da je vrijedno napomenuti da to ove zemlje nije dovelo na rub rata. Uspjele su ga izbjeći.

Ne, ne. Zemlje su dovedene na rub rata.

Do ruba rata, ali ne i do rata.

Da. Ali, znate, Sjedinjene Države su povukle 15 ABM projektila koje su imale u Turskoj, a da o tome nisu dizale veliku buku. I Rusi su okrenuli svoje brodove i otplovili natrag u Rusiju. Dakle, dvojica vođa, Hruščov i Kennedy, imali su mudrosti i snage za to. I samo se nadam da će gospodin Putin i predsjednik Biden, koji su zapravo najvažniji igrači u ovoj igri, pronaći način da se nose s izuzetno opasnom situacijom.
