Britanska vlada u utorak je priopćila da će podržati svoje znanstvenike koji u sklopu testiranja cjepiva za covid-19 planiraju mlade i zdrave dobrovoljce namjerno zaraziti virusom kako bi ubrzali njegov razvoj.
Britanski znanstvenici istraživanje su predstavili kao prvo takvo na svijetu.
Cilj istraživačkog tima koji vodi londonski Imperial College je, upotrebom strogo kontroliranih doza virusa otkriti najmanju količinu virusa potrebnu za izazivanje infekcije covidom-19 na manjim skupinama zdravih mladih volontera u dobi od 18 do 30 godina, kod kojih je rizik od teških posljedica najmanji, rekla je vlada.
Cilj ove faze je utvrditi kolika količina virusa uzrokuje simptome kod neke osobe, objavio je Imperial College na svojoj internetskoj stranici.
Nakon toga će se proučavati "na koji način djeluje cjepivo u zaustavljanju ili sprečavanju razvoja covida-19 te će se pratiti imunološka reakcija organizma".
"Prioritet nam je sigurnost volontera", rekao je dr. Christ Chiu, koji vodi istraživanje.
"Moj tim izvodi slične studije s respiratornim virusima već više od deset godina. Nijedna studija nije u potpunosti bez rizika, no zajedno s partnerima iz programa Human Challenge predano ćemo raditi na tomu da zajamčimo što manji rizik".
Dobrovoljci će biti zaraženi "kroz nosnu šupljinu, prirodnim putem" kojim virus ulazi u organizam, rekao je za BBC Radio 4 Peter Openshaw, profesor eksperimentalne medicine na Imperial Collegeu koji sudjeluje u studiji.
"Velika je stvar u ovakvim dobrovoljnim istraživanjima to što svakog volontera možemo vrlo pažljivo pratiti, ne samo za vrijeme infekcije, već i prije njezine pojave, a u mogućnosti smo pozorno pratiti i što se događa u svakoj fazi razvoja bolesti, uključujući i onu koja prethodi razvoju simptoma”, pojasnio je.
Volonteri će u laboratoriju morati boraviti dva i pol tjedna, "kako bismo im uzeli uzorke i vrlo pozorno nadzirali njihovo stanje", rekao je.
"Zbog golemog broja informacija koje dobivamo tijekom studije, ovakvo istraživanje omogućuje nam rad na puno manjem broju pacijenata nego što je to slučaj u kliničkim ispitivanjima cjepiva, u kojima sudjeluje i više tisuća dobrovoljaca."
Reuters piše da bi u ranoj fazi ovog istraživanja moglo sudjelovati 90 volontera.
"Nekoliko desetaka dobrovoljaca može nam pružiti vrlo jasne informacije o tomu hoće li i kako cjepivo djelovati, dajući nam vrijedne podatke o tijeku istraživanja", rekao je prof. Openshaw.
Britanska vlada je potvrdila da će u studiju, koju će provesti londonski Imperial College u suradnji s tvrtkom za laboratorijska istraživanja hVIVO i zakladom Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, uložiti 33,6 milijuna funti (43,5 milijuna USD).
Odobre li je regulatori i odbor za etička pitanja, studija bi mogla započeti u siječnju, a njezini rezultati očekuju se do svibnja 2021., rekla je vlada.

Britanska vlada u utorak je priopćila da će podržati svoje znanstvenike koji u sklopu testiranja cjepiva za covid-19 planiraju mlade i zdrave dobrovoljce namjerno zaraziti virusom kako bi ubrzali njegov razvoj.
Britanski znanstvenici istraživanje su predstavili kao prvo takvo na svijetu.
Cilj istraživačkog tima koji vodi londonski Imperial College je, upotrebom strogo kontroliranih doza virusa otkriti najmanju količinu virusa potrebnu za izazivanje infekcije covidom-19 na manjim skupinama zdravih mladih volontera u dobi od 18 do 30 godina, kod kojih je rizik od teških posljedica najmanji, rekla je vlada.
Cilj ove faze je utvrditi kolika količina virusa uzrokuje simptome kod neke osobe, objavio je Imperial College na svojoj internetskoj stranici.
Nakon toga će se proučavati "na koji način djeluje cjepivo u zaustavljanju ili sprečavanju razvoja covida-19 te će se pratiti imunološka reakcija organizma".
"Prioritet nam je sigurnost volontera", rekao je dr. Christ Chiu, koji vodi istraživanje.
"Moj tim izvodi slične studije s respiratornim virusima već više od deset godina. Nijedna studija nije u potpunosti bez rizika, no zajedno s partnerima iz programa Human Challenge predano ćemo raditi na tomu da zajamčimo što manji rizik".
Dobrovoljci će biti zaraženi "kroz nosnu šupljinu, prirodnim putem" kojim virus ulazi u organizam, rekao je za BBC Radio 4 Peter Openshaw, profesor eksperimentalne medicine na Imperial Collegeu koji sudjeluje u studiji.
"Velika je stvar u ovakvim dobrovoljnim istraživanjima to što svakog volontera možemo vrlo pažljivo pratiti, ne samo za vrijeme infekcije, već i prije njezine pojave, a u mogućnosti smo pozorno pratiti i što se događa u svakoj fazi razvoja bolesti, uključujući i onu koja prethodi razvoju simptoma”, pojasnio je.
Volonteri će u laboratoriju morati boraviti dva i pol tjedna, "kako bismo im uzeli uzorke i vrlo pozorno nadzirali njihovo stanje", rekao je.
"Zbog golemog broja informacija koje dobivamo tijekom studije, ovakvo istraživanje omogućuje nam rad na puno manjem broju pacijenata nego što je to slučaj u kliničkim ispitivanjima cjepiva, u kojima sudjeluje i više tisuća dobrovoljaca."
Reuters piše da bi u ranoj fazi ovog istraživanja moglo sudjelovati 90 volontera.
"Nekoliko desetaka dobrovoljaca može nam pružiti vrlo jasne informacije o tomu hoće li i kako cjepivo djelovati, dajući nam vrijedne podatke o tijeku istraživanja", rekao je prof. Openshaw.
Britanska vlada je potvrdila da će u studiju, koju će provesti londonski Imperial College u suradnji s tvrtkom za laboratorijska istraživanja hVIVO i zakladom Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, uložiti 33,6 milijuna funti (43,5 milijuna USD).
Odobre li je regulatori i odbor za etička pitanja, studija bi mogla započeti u siječnju, a njezini rezultati očekuju se do svibnja 2021., rekla je vlada.
