Najmanje 18 milijardera i stotine drugih ultrabogatih pojedinaca u SAD-u je primilo federalne 'korona' poticaje iako su isplate bile namjenjene za pomoć kućanstvima niskih i srednjih prihoda, a u svrhu lakšeg prebrođivanja ekonomsku krizu pandemije, prenosi CBS.
Oko 270 bogatih ljudi, unatoč tome što su imali ukupno 5,7 milijardi dolara prihoda, primilo je isplate u prvom krugu poticaja koje je 2020. osigurala država. Ovi imućni porezni obveznici primili su sredstva nakon što su iskoristili porezne olakšice kako bi smanjili svoje 'profite' na manje od nule, što ih je kvalificiralo za ove poticaje. Prema zakonu, uplate od 1200 dolara po jednom poreznom obvezniku i 2400 dolara za bračne parove bile su dostupne samo samcima koji zarađuju manje od 75 000 dolara ili parovima s prihodima manjim od 150 000 dolara.
Među milijarderima koji su primili poticajne čekove su, između ostalih, filantrop George Soros, vrijedan 7,5 milijardi dolara i financijer Ira Rennert, vrijedan 3,7 milijardi dolara. Sorosev predstavnik je rekao da je vratio ček, dok Rennert nije odgovarao na medijska pitanja.
Iako je najveći dio ovog novca bio je usmjeren na siromašnije američke građane, činjenica da su ovi milijarderi primili pomoć ukazuje kako američki porezni sustav nagrađuje ultrabogate. 270 bogatih ljudi koji su dobili čekove zasigurno nisu zatražili isplate, već je Porezna uprava automatski usmjerila pomoć svima za koje je utvrdila da su kvalificirani prema prihodima.
Možda se čini zapanjujućim da se milijarder može kvalificirati za ček od 1200 dolara iz programa poticaja s pragom prihoda od 75 000 dolara po jednom poreznom obvezniku. Ali budući da su ovi milijarderi koristili otpise, odbitke i druge rupe kako bi smanjili svoje prihode, čini se da ih je Porezna uprava registrirala kao one koji bilježe gubitke, što ih čini podobnim za isplate.
Ovo saznanje dolazi u trenutku kada neki demokratski zastupnici zagovaraju porez na milijardere, tvrdeći da bi najbogatiji građani nacije trebali plaćati više zbog pravednosti. Tijekom pandemije, zajednička neto vrijednost otprilike 700 američkih milijardera porasla je za 2 bilijuna dolara, zahvaljujući porastu cijena dionica i vrijednosti druge imovine.
Porez na milijardere uključivao bi novi porez na dobit od imovine, bez obzira na to je li milijarder prodao imovinu ili ne. Prema važećem zakonu, dobit se oporezuje samo ako je 'ostvarena' tj. kada njezin vlasnik proda imovinu i tako uknjiži dobit. Nerealizirani dobici – dionice ili druga ulaganja koja rastu u vrijednosti i koje ulagač drži i koristi – trenutno se ne oporezuju.

Najmanje 18 milijardera i stotine drugih ultrabogatih pojedinaca u SAD-u je primilo federalne 'korona' poticaje iako su isplate bile namjenjene za pomoć kućanstvima niskih i srednjih prihoda, a u svrhu lakšeg prebrođivanja ekonomsku krizu pandemije, prenosi CBS.
Oko 270 bogatih ljudi, unatoč tome što su imali ukupno 5,7 milijardi dolara prihoda, primilo je isplate u prvom krugu poticaja koje je 2020. osigurala država. Ovi imućni porezni obveznici primili su sredstva nakon što su iskoristili porezne olakšice kako bi smanjili svoje 'profite' na manje od nule, što ih je kvalificiralo za ove poticaje. Prema zakonu, uplate od 1200 dolara po jednom poreznom obvezniku i 2400 dolara za bračne parove bile su dostupne samo samcima koji zarađuju manje od 75 000 dolara ili parovima s prihodima manjim od 150 000 dolara.
Među milijarderima koji su primili poticajne čekove su, između ostalih, filantrop George Soros, vrijedan 7,5 milijardi dolara i financijer Ira Rennert, vrijedan 3,7 milijardi dolara. Sorosev predstavnik je rekao da je vratio ček, dok Rennert nije odgovarao na medijska pitanja.
Iako je najveći dio ovog novca bio je usmjeren na siromašnije američke građane, činjenica da su ovi milijarderi primili pomoć ukazuje kako američki porezni sustav nagrađuje ultrabogate. 270 bogatih ljudi koji su dobili čekove zasigurno nisu zatražili isplate, već je Porezna uprava automatski usmjerila pomoć svima za koje je utvrdila da su kvalificirani prema prihodima.
Možda se čini zapanjujućim da se milijarder može kvalificirati za ček od 1200 dolara iz programa poticaja s pragom prihoda od 75 000 dolara po jednom poreznom obvezniku. Ali budući da su ovi milijarderi koristili otpise, odbitke i druge rupe kako bi smanjili svoje prihode, čini se da ih je Porezna uprava registrirala kao one koji bilježe gubitke, što ih čini podobnim za isplate.
Ovo saznanje dolazi u trenutku kada neki demokratski zastupnici zagovaraju porez na milijardere, tvrdeći da bi najbogatiji građani nacije trebali plaćati više zbog pravednosti. Tijekom pandemije, zajednička neto vrijednost otprilike 700 američkih milijardera porasla je za 2 bilijuna dolara, zahvaljujući porastu cijena dionica i vrijednosti druge imovine.
Porez na milijardere uključivao bi novi porez na dobit od imovine, bez obzira na to je li milijarder prodao imovinu ili ne. Prema važećem zakonu, dobit se oporezuje samo ako je 'ostvarena' tj. kada njezin vlasnik proda imovinu i tako uknjiži dobit. Nerealizirani dobici – dionice ili druga ulaganja koja rastu u vrijednosti i koje ulagač drži i koristi – trenutno se ne oporezuju.
