Najpoznatiji Irac u Hrvatskoj, urednik "Total Croatia Newsa" Paul Bradbury, objavio je na svom YouTube kanalu popis 25 najčešćih pogrešaka koje Hrvati rade dok govore engleski.

Paul u Hrvatskoj živi već 20 godina, a u tom razdoblju najviše vremena je proveo u Jelsi, Varaždinu, a sad živi u Zagrebu, pa mu je dobro poznato kako baratamo engleskim. Kaže da smo odlični i da je impresioniran kvalitetom engleskoga koji se govori diljem zemlje. Međutim, neke pogreške ipak činimo, i to, čini se, ponajviše zbog toga što neke stvari doslovno prevodimo.

U svom edukativnom videu "25 Most Common Mistakes Croats Make Speaking English", Paul Bradbury je na duhovit način objasnio u čemu najčešće griješimo kad govorimo engleski, ali, kako se i sam ogradio, nisu to nikakve velike pogreške.

– Da sam dobio po kunu svaki put kad me netko pitao "How do you say it on English?", bio bih bogat čovjek – uvodno će Bradbury u svom novom videu, koji možete pogledati OVDJE i provjeriti jeste li i vi među onima koji krivo govore i naučiti koji bi bio ispravan način. Pa ako si i nađete puno pogrešaka, nemojte očajavati, čak i čuveni kapetan engleske nogometne reprezentacije godinama nije znao da se ne kaže "he don‘t" nego "he doesn‘t". A čovjek je "fetivi" Britanac.

Na Paulovoj listi top 25 pogrešaka našla se i jedna engleska riječ koju Hrvati često koriste, i to ispravno, ali je Britanci, kaže Paul, nikad, baš nikad, ne upotrebljavaju. Štoviše, on je jedva i može izgovoriti. U pitanju je riječ "autochthonous". Autohton. Pretpostavljamo da je Paul čuje kad se hvalimo našim autohtonim proizvodima, no da bi nas Britanci mogli razumjeti o čemu govorimo kad želimo kazati da je nešto autohtono, bilo bi puno pametnije da koristimo pridjev "indigenous".

Bradbury je primijetio i kako crno vino uredno prevodimo u "black wine", ali Englezi ga zovu "red wine", što je zapravo i logičnije. Uostalom, sve je lijepo objašnjeno u videu.

Reakcije na post su mahom odlične. Stranci koji žive u Hrvatskoj i sami svjedoče da često čuju iste ove stvari kad Hrvati govore engleski, ali vrlo su pozitivni i dojmovi domaćih ljudi.

– Naučio sam više engleskog iz ovog videa nego u školi. Da sam bar imao ovako duhovitog nastavnika engleskoga, vjerojatno bi moja gramatika bila puno bolja – jedan je od komplimenata koje je Paul zaradio.

Paul je s godinama dobro naučio hrvatski. Ne savršeno, nije zadovoljan svojim naglaskom, ali bez problema može komunicirati.

– Prije nego sam se doselio u Hrvatsku govorio sam ruski, tako da mi padeži nisu bili veliki problem. Najveći problem za strance koji uče hrvatski su vaši dijalekti. Primjerice, Varaždince mi je bilo jako teško razumjeti, za razliku od ljudi iz Slavonije. Slavonce je najlakše razumjeti dok govore – otkriva nam Paul.

Zanimljiv je i njegov prijašnji video u kojem objašnjava zašto je i u kojem trenutku prestao učiti hrvatski. Inače je poliglot, uz engleski govori još i francuski, njemački i ruski i jezici mu dobro idu. Ukratko, Bradbury smatra da je naš jezik najlogičniji na svijetu, najlakše ga je čitati i kad se nauče vremena i deklinacije, sve je zapravo lako... Njegova kći je u dobi od tri godine bez problema pisala komplicirane hrvatske riječi, za razliku od engleskih. A zašto je on odustao od učenja hrvatskoga?

– Zbog dijalekta. Kad sam došao u Hrvatsku, učio sam hrvatski u kafiću na Hvaru. Zapravo, mislio sam da učim hrvatski sve dok nisam došao u Zagreb i shvatio da sam učio lokalni dijalekt kojim govori 2000 ljudi – pojasnio je Bradbury, a dan kad je definitivno odustao bio je kad je shvatio da Hvarani ne razumiju ni sve riječi koje Splićani govore... Ne razumijemo se najbolje ni mi međusobno, shvatio je ovaj bloger, a kako će nas tek stranci razumjeti.

Paul u Hrvatskoj živi već 20 godina, a u tom razdoblju najviše vremena je proveo u Jelsi, Varaždinu, a sad živi u Zagrebu, pa mu je dobro poznato kako baratamo engleskim. Kaže da smo odlični i da je impresioniran kvalitetom engleskoga koji se govori diljem zemlje. Međutim, neke pogreške ipak činimo, i to, čini se, ponajviše zbog toga što neke stvari doslovno prevodimo.

U svom edukativnom videu "25 Most Common Mistakes Croats Make Speaking English", Paul Bradbury je na duhovit način objasnio u čemu najčešće griješimo kad govorimo engleski, ali, kako se i sam ogradio, nisu to nikakve velike pogreške.

– Da sam dobio po kunu svaki put kad me netko pitao "How do you say it on English?", bio bih bogat čovjek – uvodno će Bradbury u svom novom videu, koji možete pogledati OVDJE i provjeriti jeste li i vi među onima koji krivo govore i naučiti koji bi bio ispravan način. Pa ako si i nađete puno pogrešaka, nemojte očajavati, čak i čuveni kapetan engleske nogometne reprezentacije godinama nije znao da se ne kaže "he don‘t" nego "he doesn‘t". A čovjek je "fetivi" Britanac.

Na Paulovoj listi top 25 pogrešaka našla se i jedna engleska riječ koju Hrvati često koriste, i to ispravno, ali je Britanci, kaže Paul, nikad, baš nikad, ne upotrebljavaju. Štoviše, on je jedva i može izgovoriti. U pitanju je riječ "autochthonous". Autohton. Pretpostavljamo da je Paul čuje kad se hvalimo našim autohtonim proizvodima, no da bi nas Britanci mogli razumjeti o čemu govorimo kad želimo kazati da je nešto autohtono, bilo bi puno pametnije da koristimo pridjev "indigenous".

Bradbury je primijetio i kako crno vino uredno prevodimo u "black wine", ali Englezi ga zovu "red wine", što je zapravo i logičnije. Uostalom, sve je lijepo objašnjeno u videu.

Reakcije na post su mahom odlične. Stranci koji žive u Hrvatskoj i sami svjedoče da često čuju iste ove stvari kad Hrvati govore engleski, ali vrlo su pozitivni i dojmovi domaćih ljudi.

– Naučio sam više engleskog iz ovog videa nego u školi. Da sam bar imao ovako duhovitog nastavnika engleskoga, vjerojatno bi moja gramatika bila puno bolja – jedan je od komplimenata koje je Paul zaradio.

Paul je s godinama dobro naučio hrvatski. Ne savršeno, nije zadovoljan svojim naglaskom, ali bez problema može komunicirati.

– Prije nego sam se doselio u Hrvatsku govorio sam ruski, tako da mi padeži nisu bili veliki problem. Najveći problem za strance koji uče hrvatski su vaši dijalekti. Primjerice, Varaždince mi je bilo jako teško razumjeti, za razliku od ljudi iz Slavonije. Slavonce je najlakše razumjeti dok govore – otkriva nam Paul.

Zanimljiv je i njegov prijašnji video u kojem objašnjava zašto je i u kojem trenutku prestao učiti hrvatski. Inače je poliglot, uz engleski govori još i francuski, njemački i ruski i jezici mu dobro idu. Ukratko, Bradbury smatra da je naš jezik najlogičniji na svijetu, najlakše ga je čitati i kad se nauče vremena i deklinacije, sve je zapravo lako... Njegova kći je u dobi od tri godine bez problema pisala komplicirane hrvatske riječi, za razliku od engleskih. A zašto je on odustao od učenja hrvatskoga?

– Zbog dijalekta. Kad sam došao u Hrvatsku, učio sam hrvatski u kafiću na Hvaru. Zapravo, mislio sam da učim hrvatski sve dok nisam došao u Zagreb i shvatio da sam učio lokalni dijalekt kojim govori 2000 ljudi – pojasnio je Bradbury, a dan kad je definitivno odustao bio je kad je shvatio da Hvarani ne razumiju ni sve riječi koje Splićani govore... Ne razumijemo se najbolje ni mi međusobno, shvatio je ovaj bloger, a kako će nas tek stranci razumjeti.
