Gotovo tri sata trajala je borba između aktualnog pobjednika juniorskog Wimbledona, 18-godišnjeg Splićanina Milija Poljička, i umaškog pobjednika iz 2018., 29-godišnjeg Talijana Marca Cecchinata, za plasman u drugo kolo 32. izdanja Plava Laguna Croatia Opena, da bi na kraju slavio nekadašnji polufinalist Roland Garrosa sa 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. 

Poljičkov prvi nastup u pojedinačnoj konkurenciji na ATP Tour razini nikoga nije mogao ostaviti ravnodušnim, jer mladi je hrvatski tenisač pokazao da ima srce, tenisku kvalitetu i dovoljno udaraca u svom arsenalu za borbu s proukušanim, dugogodišnjim profesionalcima. Stoga je bilo logično da ni Poljičak nije bio nesretan zbog poraza.

- Jako sam sretan i zadovljan svojim debijem u singlu na ATP turniru. Mislim da su mi za pobjedu falile nijanse, iskustvo je prevagnulo. Nemam za čime žaliti, dao sam sve od sebe, svoj maksimum u ovom trenutku. Ovo je pozitivan meč za mene - rekao je Splićanin na konferenciji za medije koja je održana već u novom danu, debelo nakon što je otkucala ponoć. 

- Prvi set je bio 6-1, a igrali smo skoro sat vremena. Bilo je dosta izjednačenih poena, dosta izjednačenih gemova. Moglo je, uz malo sreće, možda otići i na moju stranu. Nije realno da je prvi set završio 6-1. Moglo je biti 6-3 ili 6-4. Mislim, bio je on bolji u prvom setu, ali ja sam se digao u drugom. Izvukao sam prvi gem u trećem setu, imao neke šanse. Kasnije, kad sam izgubio servis, opet sam imao šanse za vratiti se, ali on je u nekim krucijalnim momentima odigrao vrhunske poene i bio je za par nijansi bolji od mene i ja mu mogu samo čestitati - analizirao je događanja na umaškom stadionu "Goran Ivanišević" na kojem je svojim sjajnim potezima i borbenošću više puta dignuti gledatelje na noge i izmamiti ovacije.

- Publika te svakako digne u nekim trenucima, daje ti dodatnu energiju, nekakav dodatni impuls koji ti znači, tako da mislim da mi je to pomoglo u drugom setu kad sam se vraćao, kad sam ga dobio. To može dosta pomoći.

Početak meča je možda bio ključan za konačan ishod jer je Poljičak imao prilike za oduzimanje servisa Talijanu u prvom i trećem gemu, mogao je i zadržati svoj početni servis. No, umjesto 3-0 za Poljička, bilo je 5-0 za Cecchinata. Presudilo je nekoliko previše promašenih prvih servisa hrvatskog juniora i nekoliko neiznuđenih pogrešaka.

- Prvi set je bio najlošiji s moje strane, tako da bih, kad bi to bilo moguće, vratio taj početak. No, nemam za čime žaliti. Odigrao sam odličan meč, na visokom nivou, s igračem koji je vrhunski tenisač na zemlji. Odigrao prije četiri godine polufinale Roland Garrosa i osvojio Umag.

Dvoboj sa Cecchinatom samo je učvrstio njegovo uvjerenje u ono što se dalo naslutiti još u travnju.

- Već finale Challengera u Zagrebu mi je bio znak da se, uz napredak u još nekim segmentima, mogu nositi s tim profesionalcima. Ovo je još razina više i dodatna motivacija za daljni rad, zato što vidim da uz mali napredak pripadam ATP Touru.

Poljičak tvrdi da nije osjetio umor tijekom meča. 

- Teško je za igrati, velika vlaga, vrućina, dosta su teški uvjeti, ali stvarno nisam imao nikakvih problema fizički to izdržati.

Umaška priča za njega nije završena. Čeka ga turnir parova u kombinaciji s NInom Serdarušićem, a potom i novi izazovi u seniorskoj konkurenciji.

- Želim se spustiti na renkingu koliko je god to moguće. Cilj je da dogodine mogu igrati kvalifikacije Roland Garrosa ili Wimbledona. No, u tenisu se iz tjedna u tjedan sve mijenja. Mogu deset tjedana ne odigrati ništa, a onda jedan tjedan odlično i onda opet bude super, zaboraviš tih deset poraza. Cilj je odigrati što više seniorskih turnira, naviknuti se na taj nivo i biti što bolji - zaključio je igrač koji je zaradio simpatije umaške publike.

Gotovo tri sata trajala je borba između aktualnog pobjednika juniorskog Wimbledona, 18-godišnjeg Splićanina Milija Poljička, i umaškog pobjednika iz 2018., 29-godišnjeg Talijana Marca Cecchinata, za plasman u drugo kolo 32. izdanja Plava Laguna Croatia Opena, da bi na kraju slavio nekadašnji polufinalist Roland Garrosa sa 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. 

Poljičkov prvi nastup u pojedinačnoj konkurenciji na ATP Tour razini nikoga nije mogao ostaviti ravnodušnim, jer mladi je hrvatski tenisač pokazao da ima srce, tenisku kvalitetu i dovoljno udaraca u svom arsenalu za borbu s proukušanim, dugogodišnjim profesionalcima. Stoga je bilo logično da ni Poljičak nije bio nesretan zbog poraza.

- Jako sam sretan i zadovljan svojim debijem u singlu na ATP turniru. Mislim da su mi za pobjedu falile nijanse, iskustvo je prevagnulo. Nemam za čime žaliti, dao sam sve od sebe, svoj maksimum u ovom trenutku. Ovo je pozitivan meč za mene - rekao je Splićanin na konferenciji za medije koja je održana već u novom danu, debelo nakon što je otkucala ponoć. 

- Prvi set je bio 6-1, a igrali smo skoro sat vremena. Bilo je dosta izjednačenih poena, dosta izjednačenih gemova. Moglo je, uz malo sreće, možda otići i na moju stranu. Nije realno da je prvi set završio 6-1. Moglo je biti 6-3 ili 6-4. Mislim, bio je on bolji u prvom setu, ali ja sam se digao u drugom. Izvukao sam prvi gem u trećem setu, imao neke šanse. Kasnije, kad sam izgubio servis, opet sam imao šanse za vratiti se, ali on je u nekim krucijalnim momentima odigrao vrhunske poene i bio je za par nijansi bolji od mene i ja mu mogu samo čestitati - analizirao je događanja na umaškom stadionu "Goran Ivanišević" na kojem je svojim sjajnim potezima i borbenošću više puta dignuti gledatelje na noge i izmamiti ovacije.

- Publika te svakako digne u nekim trenucima, daje ti dodatnu energiju, nekakav dodatni impuls koji ti znači, tako da mislim da mi je to pomoglo u drugom setu kad sam se vraćao, kad sam ga dobio. To može dosta pomoći.

Početak meča je možda bio ključan za konačan ishod jer je Poljičak imao prilike za oduzimanje servisa Talijanu u prvom i trećem gemu, mogao je i zadržati svoj početni servis. No, umjesto 3-0 za Poljička, bilo je 5-0 za Cecchinata. Presudilo je nekoliko previše promašenih prvih servisa hrvatskog juniora i nekoliko neiznuđenih pogrešaka.

- Prvi set je bio najlošiji s moje strane, tako da bih, kad bi to bilo moguće, vratio taj početak. No, nemam za čime žaliti. Odigrao sam odličan meč, na visokom nivou, s igračem koji je vrhunski tenisač na zemlji. Odigrao prije četiri godine polufinale Roland Garrosa i osvojio Umag.

Dvoboj sa Cecchinatom samo je učvrstio njegovo uvjerenje u ono što se dalo naslutiti još u travnju.

- Već finale Challengera u Zagrebu mi je bio znak da se, uz napredak u još nekim segmentima, mogu nositi s tim profesionalcima. Ovo je još razina više i dodatna motivacija za daljni rad, zato što vidim da uz mali napredak pripadam ATP Touru.

Poljičak tvrdi da nije osjetio umor tijekom meča. 

- Teško je za igrati, velika vlaga, vrućina, dosta su teški uvjeti, ali stvarno nisam imao nikakvih problema fizički to izdržati.

Umaška priča za njega nije završena. Čeka ga turnir parova u kombinaciji s NInom Serdarušićem, a potom i novi izazovi u seniorskoj konkurenciji.

- Želim se spustiti na renkingu koliko je god to moguće. Cilj je da dogodine mogu igrati kvalifikacije Roland Garrosa ili Wimbledona. No, u tenisu se iz tjedna u tjedan sve mijenja. Mogu deset tjedana ne odigrati ništa, a onda jedan tjedan odlično i onda opet bude super, zaboraviš tih deset poraza. Cilj je odigrati što više seniorskih turnira, naviknuti se na taj nivo i biti što bolji - zaključio je igrač koji je zaradio simpatije umaške publike.

Gotovo tri sata trajala je borba između aktualnog pobjednika juniorskog Wimbledona, 18-godišnjeg Splićanina Milija Poljička, i umaškog pobjednika iz 2018., 29-godišnjeg Talijana Marca Cecchinata, za plasman u drugo kolo 32. izdanja Plava Laguna Croatia Opena, da bi na kraju slavio nekadašnji polufinalist Roland Garrosa sa 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. 

Poljičkov prvi nastup u pojedinačnoj konkurenciji na ATP Tour razini nikoga nije mogao ostaviti ravnodušnim, jer mladi je hrvatski tenisač pokazao da ima srce, tenisku kvalitetu i dovoljno udaraca u svom arsenalu za borbu s proukušanim, dugogodišnjim profesionalcima. Stoga je bilo logično da ni Poljičak nije bio nesretan zbog poraza.

- Jako sam sretan i zadovljan svojim debijem u singlu na ATP turniru. Mislim da su mi za pobjedu falile...
