Hrvatski tenisač Marin Čilić plasirao se u polufinale drugog Grand Slam turnira sezone Roland Garrosa nakon što je u susretu četvrtfinala nakon četriri sata i 15 minuta igre pobijedio Rusa Andreja Rubljeva sa 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (10-2).
Ulaskom u polufinale Čilić je ostvario najveći uspjeh na Roland Garrosu. Do sada je dva puta stigao do četvrtfinala (2017, 2018), no oba puta je ispao. Prije pet godina izbacio ga je Švicarac Stan Wawrinka, a godinu dana kasnije Argentinac Juan Martin del Potro.
Posljednje polufinale na nekom od Grand Slama Čilić je igrao 2018. kada je dogurao do finala Australian Opena.
Bio je to sedmi međusobni susret između 33-godišnjeg Čilića i 24-godišnjeg Rubljeva i treća Čilićeva pobjeda.
U prvom setu oba su tenisača držala svoj servis do rezultata 5-5. Rubljov je kod 3-3 imao tri break lopte, no Marin se izvukao. Nažalost, kod rezultata 5-5, ruski tenisač je došao do nove lopte za obrat i ovoga puta nije propustio priliku stigavši do vodstva 6-5. U idućem gemu je bez izgubljenog poena zaključio set sa 7-5.
Marin je sjajno ušao u drugi set, uz rani break je poveo sa 3-0, imao je 4-1 i 5-2. Kod rezultata 5-3 je iskoristio petu set loptu za 6-3 i 1-1. Čilić je nastavio s odličnom igrom i u trećem setu. Kod 2-2 je imao dvije break lopte, nažalost nije ih iskoristio. No vrlo brzo je uslijedila nova prilika. Kod 3-3 je stigao do nove break prilika i ovoga puta je bio uspješan. Break prednosti je zadržao do kraja seta i rezultatom 6-4 stigao do vodstva 2-1 u setovima.
U četvrtom setu Čilić i Rubljev su držali servise do rezultata 4-3. Rusa tada radi break za 5-3, a zatim osvaja servis za 6-3 i 2-2 u setovima.
U odlučujućem, petom setu gledali smo pravu dramu. Tenisači su bili sigurni na svoje servise i do 5-4 nije bilo prilika za obrat. U desetoj igri Čilić je stigao do meč lopte, no Rus se izvukao i ovojio gem za 5-5. U idućem gemu Rus je imao break loptu, ali je Čilić uspio osvojiti gem za vodstvo 6-5. Nakon što je Rubljev osvojio svoj servis, susret je otišao u trinaestu igru.
Od ove godine u odlučujućem setu kod 6-6 u gemovima igra se tie-break do 10 poena. Prvi je do prednosti stigao Čilić napravivši mini break za 4-2, a zatim fantastičnom igrom nanizao još šest poena za 10-2 i plasman u polufinale.
Najbolji hrvatski tenisač će u polufinalu igrati protiv pobjednika susreta Caspera Ruuda i Holgera Runea.
U utorak su polufinale izborili Španjolac Rafael Nadal i Nijemac Alexander Zverev. Nadal je u četvrtfinalu pobijedio Srbina Novaka Đokovića sa 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4), dok je Zverev bio bolji od Španjolca Carlosa Alcaraza sa 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7).

Hrvatski tenisač Marin Čilić plasirao se u polufinale drugog Grand Slam turnira sezone Roland Garrosa nakon što je u susretu četvrtfinala nakon četriri sata i 15 minuta igre pobijedio Rusa Andreja Rubljeva sa 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (10-2).
Ulaskom u polufinale Čilić je ostvario najveći uspjeh na Roland Garrosu. Do sada je dva puta stigao do četvrtfinala (2017, 2018), no oba puta je ispao. Prije pet godina izbacio ga je Švicarac Stan Wawrinka, a godinu dana kasnije Argentinac Juan Martin del Potro.
Posljednje polufinale na nekom od Grand Slama Čilić je igrao 2018. kada je dogurao do finala Australian Opena.
Bio je to sedmi međusobni susret između 33-godišnjeg Čilića i 24-godišnjeg Rubljeva i treća Čilićeva pobjeda.
U prvom setu oba su tenisača držala svoj servis do rezultata 5-5. Rubljov je kod 3-3 imao tri break lopte, no Marin se izvukao. Nažalost, kod rezultata 5-5, ruski tenisač je došao do nove lopte za obrat i ovoga puta nije propustio priliku stigavši do vodstva 6-5. U idućem gemu je bez izgubljenog poena zaključio set sa 7-5.
Marin je sjajno ušao u drugi set, uz rani break je poveo sa 3-0, imao je 4-1 i 5-2. Kod rezultata 5-3 je iskoristio petu set loptu za 6-3 i 1-1. Čilić je nastavio s odličnom igrom i u trećem setu. Kod 2-2 je imao dvije break lopte, nažalost nije ih iskoristio. No vrlo brzo je uslijedila nova prilika. Kod 3-3 je stigao do nove break prilika i ovoga puta je bio uspješan. Break prednosti je zadržao do kraja seta i rezultatom 6-4 stigao do vodstva 2-1 u setovima.
U četvrtom setu Čilić i Rubljev su držali servise do rezultata 4-3. Rusa tada radi break za 5-3, a zatim osvaja servis za 6-3 i 2-2 u setovima.
U odlučujućem, petom setu gledali smo pravu dramu. Tenisači su bili sigurni na svoje servise i do 5-4 nije bilo prilika za obrat. U desetoj igri Čilić je stigao do meč lopte, no Rus se izvukao i ovojio gem za 5-5. U idućem gemu Rus je imao break loptu, ali je Čilić uspio osvojiti gem za vodstvo 6-5. Nakon što je Rubljev osvojio svoj servis, susret je otišao u trinaestu igru.
Od ove godine u odlučujućem setu kod 6-6 u gemovima igra se tie-break do 10 poena. Prvi je do prednosti stigao Čilić napravivši mini break za 4-2, a zatim fantastičnom igrom nanizao još šest poena za 10-2 i plasman u polufinale.
Najbolji hrvatski tenisač će u polufinalu igrati protiv pobjednika susreta Caspera Ruuda i Holgera Runea.
U utorak su polufinale izborili Španjolac Rafael Nadal i Nijemac Alexander Zverev. Nadal je u četvrtfinalu pobijedio Srbina Novaka Đokovića sa 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4), dok je Zverev bio bolji od Španjolca Carlosa Alcaraza sa 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7).
