Od traženja posla na Zavodu za zapošljavanje i praktičnog odustajanja od nogometa, od vratara kojeg nije htio nijedan niželigaš i koji je godinu dana bio bez kluba, do europskog i afričkog prvaka, najboljeg vratara svijeta u samo sedam godina!

Taj put prošao je prvak Afrike sa Senegalom vratar Chelseaja Edouard Mendy (29).

Naslovu prvaka Europe s Chelseajem, najboljeg vratara 2021. godine u izboru FIFE i osvojene Lige prvaka prošle sezone, Mendy je dodao i naslov prvaka Europe, povijesni prvi za Senegal. Međutim, najbolji vratar današnjice je još prije samo nekoliko godina bio na rubu potpunog odustajanja od nogometne karijere, godinu dana je bio bez kluba.

Mendy je u raspucavanju s bijele točke bio junak finalne pobjede Senegal nad Egiptom (0:0 pa 4:2) jer je zaustavio ključni udarac Mohanada Lasheena u četvrtoj seriji, a prije samo sedam godina, kao 22-godišnjak koji je dobio otkaz u francuskom trećeligašu Cherbourgu bio je prijavljen na Zavod za zapošljavanje. Tražio je grozničavo bilo kakav posao. Gotovo je tada i potpuno digao ruke od nogometa. Tražio je klub, po Francuskoj, Engleskoj. Bilo kakav niželigaški klub, ali ga baš nitko nije htio. Kao što ga prije Cherbourga nije htio ni slavni klub iz njegovog rodnog grada Le Havre, niti u svojoj trećoj momčadi koja je tada nastupala u šestoj ligi. Gotovo da je zaista digao ruke.

- Razmišljao sam ima li smisla nastaviti dalje s karijerom – prisjećao se Mendy. 

Međutim, ukazala mu se neočekivana prilika da bude rezervni vratar u drugoj momčadi Marseillea u petoj ligi. Pozvao ga je na probu bivši suigrač Ted Lavie i tu je počeo svoj postupni uspon kao četvrti vratar kluba. U Stade Reimsu potom je nastavio kao rezervni vratar, pa je branio u Ligue 2. Izborio je potom s Reimsom Ligue 1, zatim i izborio ostanak u eliti. Reims ga je zatim prodao Rennesu za 7,6 milijuna eura, a onda potonji klub engleskom Chelseaju 2020. godine za 24 milijuna. Da zamjeni najskupljeg vratara svih vremena Kepu Arrizabalagu koji je plaćen 80 milijuna!

Rođak igra za Francusku

Birajući između Francuske u kojoj je rođen, Gvineje Bissao i Senegala odakle je porijeklom, rođak francuskog reprezentativca Ferlanda Mendyja odlučio se braniti za Senegal. Na prošlom izdanju Afričkog kupa nacija 2019. godine, makar zbog ozljede nije branio u ključnim susretima, sa Senegalom je dogurao do finala gdje su poraženi od Alžira. Sada je nakon Europe na klupskom planu sa Chelseajem na reprezentativnom pokorio i Afriku.

Od traženja posla na Zavodu za zapošljavanje i praktičnog odustajanja od nogometa, od vratara kojeg nije htio nijedan niželigaš i koji je godinu dana bio bez kluba, do europskog i afričkog prvaka, najboljeg vratara svijeta u samo sedam godina!

Taj put prošao je prvak Afrike sa Senegalom vratar Chelseaja Edouard Mendy (29).

Naslovu prvaka Europe s Chelseajem, najboljeg vratara 2021. godine u izboru FIFE i osvojene Lige prvaka prošle sezone, Mendy je dodao i naslov prvaka Europe, povijesni prvi za Senegal. Međutim, najbolji vratar današnjice je još prije samo nekoliko godina bio na rubu potpunog odustajanja od nogometne karijere, godinu dana je bio bez kluba.

Mendy je u raspucavanju s bijele točke bio junak finalne pobjede Senegal nad Egiptom (0:0 pa 4:2) jer je zaustavio ključni udarac Mohanada Lasheena u četvrtoj seriji, a prije samo sedam godina, kao 22-godišnjak koji je dobio otkaz u francuskom trećeligašu Cherbourgu bio je prijavljen na Zavod za zapošljavanje. Tražio je grozničavo bilo kakav posao. Gotovo je tada i potpuno digao ruke od nogometa. Tražio je klub, po Francuskoj, Engleskoj. Bilo kakav niželigaški klub, ali ga baš nitko nije htio. Kao što ga prije Cherbourga nije htio ni slavni klub iz njegovog rodnog grada Le Havre, niti u svojoj trećoj momčadi koja je tada nastupala u šestoj ligi. Gotovo da je zaista digao ruke.

- Razmišljao sam ima li smisla nastaviti dalje s karijerom – prisjećao se Mendy. 

Međutim, ukazala mu se neočekivana prilika da bude rezervni vratar u drugoj momčadi Marseillea u petoj ligi. Pozvao ga je na probu bivši suigrač Ted Lavie i tu je počeo svoj postupni uspon kao četvrti vratar kluba. U Stade Reimsu potom je nastavio kao rezervni vratar, pa je branio u Ligue 2. Izborio je potom s Reimsom Ligue 1, zatim i izborio ostanak u eliti. Reims ga je zatim prodao Rennesu za 7,6 milijuna eura, a onda potonji klub engleskom Chelseaju 2020. godine za 24 milijuna. Da zamjeni najskupljeg vratara svih vremena Kepu Arrizabalagu koji je plaćen 80 milijuna!

Rođak igra za Francusku

Birajući između Francuske u kojoj je rođen, Gvineje Bissao i Senegala odakle je porijeklom, rođak francuskog reprezentativca Ferlanda Mendyja odlučio se braniti za Senegal. Na prošlom izdanju Afričkog kupa nacija 2019. godine, makar zbog ozljede nije branio u ključnim susretima, sa Senegalom je dogurao do finala gdje su poraženi od Alžira. Sada je nakon Europe na klupskom planu sa Chelseajem na reprezentativnom pokorio i Afriku.

Bio je nezaposlen, skoro se ostavio nogometa, a sada je prvak dva kontinenta

Od traženja posla na Zavodu za zapošljavanje i praktičnog odustajanja od nogometa, od vratara kojeg nije htio nijedan niželigaš i koji je godinu dana bio bez kluba, do europskog i afričkog prvaka, najboljeg vratara svijeta u samo sedam godina!

Taj put prošao je prvak Afrike sa Senegalom vratar Chelseaja Edouard Mendy (29).

Naslovu prvaka Europe s Chelseajem, najboljeg vratara 2021. godine u izboru FIFE i osvojene Lige prvaka prošle sezone, Mendy je dodao i naslov prvaka Europe, povijesni prvi za Senegal. Međutim, najbolji vratar današnjice je još prije samo nekoliko godina bio na rubu potpunog odustajanja od nogometne karijere, godinu dana je bio bez kluba.

Mendy je u raspucavanju s bijele točke bio junak finalne pobjede Senegal nad Egiptom (0:0 pa 4:2) jer je zaustavio...
