Jedna od najpoznatijih splitskih ulica, Marmontova, kojom se izlazi na splitsku Rivu, nosi ime po francuskom maršalu Augusteu Frédéricu Louisu Vièsseu de Marmontu, koji je Splitu i Dalmaciji početkom 19. stoljeća, u vrijeme Napoleona, učinio više štete nego koristi, da ne kažemo da je – modernim haaškim rječnikom rečeno – bio na čelu zločinačkog pothvata te je odigrao ključnu ulogu u krvavom gušenju ustanka u Poljičkoj kneževini 1807. te u Splitu 1809. godine.

Starodrevna seljačka republika u Poljicima opstajala je stoljećima čak i pod Turcima i Mlecima, no Francuzi su je, kao i Dubrovačku Republiku, ukinuli.
Kad su se Poljičani pobunili, francuske su čete, na čelu s maršalom Marmontom, vojnom silom pregazile ustanike, a kao upozorenje drugima vješali su ih, među inim, i u mome rodnome Sitnom Donjem, a mjesto gdje se obavljala egzekucija od tada je nazvano Višak umjesto starog naziva Lipopir.

Imali su Francuzi za kratke vladavine u Dalmaciji i dobrih stvari, napisala je Ivana Tucak u članku "Živjeti u Splitu na početku 19. stoljeća" na Hrvatskom povijesnom portalu. Međutim, nakon što su protjerali Austrijance, za generalnog providura Dalmacije u Zadru imenovali su Mlečanina Vicenza Dandola. Osim navedenog, Napoleon je 12. lipnja 1806. imenovao tada mladog generala Augustea Marmonta za vojnog zapovjednika Dalmacije.

U usporedbi s austrijskom vlasti, Francuzi su imali mnogo nepromišljenih i politički pogrešnih odluka, a jedna od njih bila je kad su Dalmaciju pripojili Kraljevini Italiji, a kasnije od dijelova hrvatskog nacionalnog teritorija pokušali stvoriti novu naciju. Rezultat tog odnosa bilo je stvaranje dviju skupina: frankofila i austrofila. Ipak, to ne treba doslovno shvaćati. Skupina koja se opredijelila za francuske ideje željela je promjene i poboljšanje životnih uvjeta, a oni koji su bili na austrijskoj strani nisu bili reakcionari, nego je to bio odraz njihove težnje da se ustroje kao suvremena nacija.

Tijekom stoljeća Dalmacija je razvila vrlo moćnu crkvenu instituciju, navodi Tucak, a Marmont i Dandolo, jakobinci, nastojali su što više oslabiti njezinu moć, pa je razumljivo da se svećenički stalež najviše usprotivio francuskim reformama. Splitske samostane sv. Frane, sv. Marije de Taurello na Dosudu i sv. Arnira do sjevernog zida Dioklecijanove palače zaposjela je vojska kako bi ih koristila za svoje potrebe. Pučani i konzervativniji slojevi stanovništva posebno su osuđivali njihov odnos prema Crkvi.

O tome kakav je bio stav pučana prema tom njihovu činu, svjedoči nam nepoznati Splićanin, vjerojatno pučanin, koji svoj Ljetopis 1811. godine završava ovako: "Opljačkao francuski zatirač Kršćanstva Napoleon sve crkve u svim dalmatinskim gradovima, otocima i selima u kojima su se nalazila viseća kandila, svijećnjaci, pokaznice (monstrance), srebrne cartelle (uokvirene oltarske molitve) i srebrna koplja zastava bratovština, a u nekim crkvama i srebrna Raspela, sa svim voštanicama što su se koristile na oltarima i u rukama bratima i sve su odnijeli i naredili zatvoriti sve crkve po gradu i predgrađima, ne dozvoljavajući da se u njima više služe mise i da se ukinu bratovštine."

Kad se sve uzme u obzir, zaista je nevjerojatno da se nevelika, ali važna ulica u Splitu još naziva po maršalu Marmontu. Predlažem da se preimenuje u Ulicu svetog Jeronima. U čast velikog crkvenog naučitelja i mistika, koji je zaštitnik cijele Dalmacije i Splitsko-dalmatinske županije, prevoditelja Biblije s hebrejskog i grčkog na pučki latinski jezik – znamenita Vulgata, koja se i danas koristi. Ovih dana obilježena je 1600. godišnjica njegove smrti u Betlehemu. A nijedna splitska ulica i trg ne zove se po svetom Jeri.

Vrijeme je da se ispravi ta velika nepravda prema jednom od stotinu najznačajnih ljudi u povijesti čovječanstva, jer je Jeronim Dalmatinac svojim djelom stvorio temelje za razvitak zapadne europske kulture.

Jedna od najpoznatijih splitskih ulica, Marmontova, kojom se izlazi na splitsku Rivu, nosi ime po francuskom maršalu Augusteu Frédéricu Louisu Vièsseu de Marmontu, koji je Splitu i Dalmaciji početkom 19. stoljeća, u vrijeme Napoleona, učinio više štete nego koristi, da ne kažemo da je – modernim haaškim rječnikom rečeno – bio na čelu zločinačkog pothvata te je odigrao ključnu ulogu u krvavom gušenju ustanka u Poljičkoj kneževini 1807. te u Splitu 1809. godine.

Starodrevna seljačka republika u Poljicima opstajala je stoljećima čak i pod Turcima i Mlecima, no Francuzi su je, kao i Dubrovačku Republiku, ukinuli.
Kad su se Poljičani pobunili, francuske su čete, na čelu s maršalom Marmontom, vojnom silom pregazile ustanike, a kao upozorenje drugima vješali su ih, među inim, i u mome rodnome Sitnom Donjem, a mjesto gdje se obavljala egzekucija od tada je nazvano Višak umjesto starog naziva Lipopir.

Imali su Francuzi za kratke vladavine u Dalmaciji i dobrih stvari, napisala je Ivana Tucak u članku "Živjeti u Splitu na početku 19. stoljeća" na Hrvatskom povijesnom portalu. Međutim, nakon što su protjerali Austrijance, za generalnog providura Dalmacije u Zadru imenovali su Mlečanina Vicenza Dandola. Osim navedenog, Napoleon je 12. lipnja 1806. imenovao tada mladog generala Augustea Marmonta za vojnog zapovjednika Dalmacije.

U usporedbi s austrijskom vlasti, Francuzi su imali mnogo nepromišljenih i politički pogrešnih odluka, a jedna od njih bila je kad su Dalmaciju pripojili Kraljevini Italiji, a kasnije od dijelova hrvatskog nacionalnog teritorija pokušali stvoriti novu naciju. Rezultat tog odnosa bilo je stvaranje dviju skupina: frankofila i austrofila. Ipak, to ne treba doslovno shvaćati. Skupina koja se opredijelila za francuske ideje željela je promjene i poboljšanje životnih uvjeta, a oni koji su bili na austrijskoj strani nisu bili reakcionari, nego je to bio odraz njihove težnje da se ustroje kao suvremena nacija.

Tijekom stoljeća Dalmacija je razvila vrlo moćnu crkvenu instituciju, navodi Tucak, a Marmont i Dandolo, jakobinci, nastojali su što više oslabiti njezinu moć, pa je razumljivo da se svećenički stalež najviše usprotivio francuskim reformama. Splitske samostane sv. Frane, sv. Marije de Taurello na Dosudu i sv. Arnira do sjevernog zida Dioklecijanove palače zaposjela je vojska kako bi ih koristila za svoje potrebe. Pučani i konzervativniji slojevi stanovništva posebno su osuđivali njihov odnos prema Crkvi.

O tome kakav je bio stav pučana prema tom njihovu činu, svjedoči nam nepoznati Splićanin, vjerojatno pučanin, koji svoj Ljetopis 1811. godine završava ovako: "Opljačkao francuski zatirač Kršćanstva Napoleon sve crkve u svim dalmatinskim gradovima, otocima i selima u kojima su se nalazila viseća kandila, svijećnjaci, pokaznice (monstrance), srebrne cartelle (uokvirene oltarske molitve) i srebrna koplja zastava bratovština, a u nekim crkvama i srebrna Raspela, sa svim voštanicama što su se koristile na oltarima i u rukama bratima i sve su odnijeli i naredili zatvoriti sve crkve po gradu i predgrađima, ne dozvoljavajući da se u njima više služe mise i da se ukinu bratovštine."

Kad se sve uzme u obzir, zaista je nevjerojatno da se nevelika, ali važna ulica u Splitu još naziva po maršalu Marmontu. Predlažem da se preimenuje u Ulicu svetog Jeronima. U čast velikog crkvenog naučitelja i mistika, koji je zaštitnik cijele Dalmacije i Splitsko-dalmatinske županije, prevoditelja Biblije s hebrejskog i grčkog na pučki latinski jezik – znamenita Vulgata, koja se i danas koristi. Ovih dana obilježena je 1600. godišnjica njegove smrti u Betlehemu. A nijedna splitska ulica i trg ne zove se po svetom Jeri.

Vrijeme je da se ispravi ta velika nepravda prema jednom od stotinu najznačajnih ljudi u povijesti čovječanstva, jer je Jeronim Dalmatinac svojim djelom stvorio temelje za razvitak zapadne europske kulture.

Marmontova nek se zove Jeronimova

Jedna od najpoznatijih splitskih ulica, Marmontova, kojom se izlazi na splitsku Rivu, nosi ime po francuskom maršalu Augusteu Frédéricu Louisu Vièsseu de Marmontu, koji je Splitu i Dalmaciji početkom 19. stoljeća, u vrijeme Napoleona, učinio više štete nego koristi, da ne kažemo da je – modernim haaškim rječnikom rečeno – bio na čelu zločinačkog pothvata te je odigrao ključnu ulogu u krvavom gušenju ustanka u Poljičkoj kneževini 1807. te u Splitu 1809. godine.

Starodrevna seljačka republika u Poljicima opstajala je stoljećima čak i pod Turcima i Mlecima, no Francuzi su je, kao i Dubrovačku Republiku, ukinuli.
Kad su se Poljičani pobunili, francuske su čete, na čelu s maršalom Marmontom, vojnom silom pregazile ustanike, a kao upozorenje drugima vješali su ih, me...
