Majušna ali smrtonosna vrsta meduze spušta se polako ali sigurno uz istočne obale Australije kako se podiže temperatura vode, upozorili su u petak stručnjaci za mora. Gotovo nevidljiva meduza Irukandji, koja ima tijelo veličine jednog prostornog centimetra ali joj kraci mogu dosezati i metar duljine, obično se nalazi u toplijim vodama blizu Cairnsa.

Ipak, ona bi kroz nekoliko godina mogla doći sve do vrlo napučenih plaža na Sunčanoj obali (Sunshine Coast), više od tisuću kilometara južnije, upozorio je profesor Jamie Seymour sa Sveučilišta James Cook.

- Svjedočimo podizanju temperature mora za jedan do dva stupnja uz obalu na južnijem dijelu, a životinje se kako smo i predviđali kreću u skladu s tim - kazao je Seymour.

Ovog tjedna četvero ljudi je hospitalizirano nakon što su naišli na meduzu Irukandji uz Fraser Island. Oni su u stabilnom stanju. Samo dvoje ljudi umrlo je u nedavnoj prošlosti zbog dodira te meduze u Australiji, ali deseci svake godine završe u bolnici.

Seymour, koji je u nekoliko navrata imao susret s tom meduzom, kaže da je bol nevjerojatna i da može kod starijih uzrokovati srčani udar.

- To je razina boli od deset na ljestvici do 10 i traje 6 do 12 sati - upozorava Seymour.

Stoga plivačima savjetuje da nose odijelo koje prekriva čitavo tijelo kod Velikog koraljnog grebena i u sjevernim vodama Queenslanda.

Majušna ali smrtonosna vrsta meduze spušta se polako ali sigurno uz istočne obale Australije kako se podiže temperatura vode, upozorili su u petak stručnjaci za mora. Gotovo nevidljiva meduza Irukandji, koja ima tijelo veličine jednog prostornog centimetra ali joj kraci mogu dosezati i metar duljine, obično se nalazi u toplijim vodama blizu Cairnsa.

Ipak, ona bi kroz nekoliko godina mogla doći sve do vrlo napučenih plaža na Sunčanoj obali (Sunshine Coast), više od tisuću kilometara južnije, upozorio je profesor Jamie Seymour sa Sveučilišta James Cook.

- Svjedočimo podizanju temperature mora za jedan do dva stupnja uz obalu na južnijem dijelu, a životinje se kako smo i predviđali kreću u skladu s tim - kazao je Seymour.

Ovog tjedna četvero ljudi je hospitalizirano nakon što su naišli na meduzu Irukandji uz Fraser Island. Oni su u stabilnom stanju. Samo dvoje ljudi umrlo je u nedavnoj prošlosti zbog dodira te meduze u Australiji, ali deseci svake godine završe u bolnici.

Seymour, koji je u nekoliko navrata imao susret s tom meduzom, kaže da je bol nevjerojatna i da može kod starijih uzrokovati srčani udar.

- To je razina boli od deset na ljestvici do 10 i traje 6 do 12 sati - upozorava Seymour.

Stoga plivačima savjetuje da nose odijelo koje prekriva čitavo tijelo kod Velikog koraljnog grebena i u sjevernim vodama Queenslanda.
