Kada postavite božićno drvce, u svoj dom unosite malo prirode. Pravo ili lažno, mjesto stvara toplo blagdansko raspoloženje u vrijeme kada su šume vani postale hladne i smeđe.

Reciklirajte svoje božićno drvce i pretvorite ga u malč

Božićna drvca predstavljaju jedan od rijetkih slučajeva gdje je najzeleniji način zbrinjavanja ujedno i najlakši. Malč bi mogao biti idealna sudbina za vaše drvo jer velik dio ugljika ostaje zarobljen u drvu, odakle se može vratiti u tlo. A ako živite u urbanom području, vjerojatno imate pristup odjelu za javne radove koji će sa zahvalnošću uzeti vaše stablo i pretvoriti ga u korisnu drvnu sječku za vrtove i parkove.

Kamo god ga donesete, uklonite sve ukrase, svjetla, šljokice, mreže, anđele i tako dalje prije nego što bacite svoje drvce. Ti predmeti neće pomoći vrtovima u rastu i predstavljaju opasnost za životinje.

Neka postane igračka za životinje

Ako nemate pristup urbanom programu recikliranja, ne bojte se. Drveće je, po definiciji, biorazgradivo, a životinje vole četinjače bile one žive ili mrtve.

Ostavite svoje drvo u šumi i vratite ga odakle je došlo. Stavite ga u svoje dvorište da ptice uživaju. Možete ga čak baciti u ribnjak ili jezero i revitalizirati svoju omiljenu jamu za pecanje—iako biste mogli prvo provjeriti s lokalnim odjelom za ribu i divljač.

Ili, ako živite blizu zoološkog vrta, pitajte žele li veliku igračku za svoje velike mačke. Lavovi i tigrovi navodno reagiraju na božićna drvca na isti način kao i njihovi manji rođaci, te će se satima motati po granama.

Samo svakako skinite sve ukrase, svjetla, a posebno imelu prije nego što odložite od svog drvca. Oni mogu ugušiti ili otrovati sve životinje koje ih pokušaju pojesti.

Nemojte zapaliti svoje božićno drvce

Božićna drvca čine loš ogrjev. Njihova zapaljiva ulja obložit će vaš dimnjak i povećati rizik od požara. Spaljivanjem također šaljete ugljik stabla natrag u atmosferu.

Nemojte dopustiti da završi na odlagalištu

Od svih mjesta na koja drvo može otići, odlagalište je apsolutno najgore za okoliš. Dok se drveće prirodno lomi, mnogo komunalnog smeća završi pod zemljom gdje ima malo kisika. Bakterije koje rastu na tim mjestima pretvaraju ugljik u otpadu u metan, što čini više od 20 puta veću štetu globalnim temperaturama od ugljičnog dioksida.

Kada postavite božićno drvce, u svoj dom unosite malo prirode. Pravo ili lažno, mjesto stvara toplo blagdansko raspoloženje u vrijeme kada su šume vani postale hladne i smeđe.

Ali nakon što odmotate darove i sigurno pospremite ukrase, vaš se veličanstveni izložbeni komad odmah pretvara u otpad - konkretno, jedan od najvećih komada smeća s kojim ćete morati imati posla tijekom cijele godine, piše Dom i Dizajn.

Uzmimo umjetna drvca: proizvodnja jednog od njih emitira oko 18 kilograma ugljičnog dioksida u atmosferu. Ključ za njihovu održivost je ponovno korištenje. Raspoređivanjem tih 18 kilograma na određeni broj godina - procjene se kreću od pet do 20 godina - na kraju će se isplatiti uz manji učinak koji biste postigli od kupnje novog prirodnog drvca iz godine u godinu.

Dakle, ako je vaše drvce lažno, vaša je misija jednostavna: spremite ga u kutiju i koristite sljedeće godine. I sljedeće. I one nakon toga. Oporučite ga svojoj djeci i učinite ga obiteljskim nasljeđem. Kada ga se konačno trebate riješiti, potrudite se reciklirati ga ili donirati.

Međutim, mnoga drvca danas nisu umjetna. Od 94 milijuna božićnih drvaca koliko se procjenjuje da je izloženo u američkim domovima ove godine, nevjerojatnih 14 milijuna njih bilo je pravo. I to ima pozitivan učinak. Na primjer, danas većina drveća dolazi s farmi, pa kupnja prirodnih potiče kratkoročno pošumljavanje. Što je još važnije, svaki sadrži oko 9 kilograma ugljičnog dioksida koji zagrijava planet i koji je uklonio iz atmosfere tijekom svog životnog vijeka. A kada ugljik nestane iz zraka, želite izbjeći njegovo ponovno vraćanje. To je možda aspiracijski cilj, ali držanje svog tog ugljika zaključanog u drvu učinilo bi za klimatske promjene isto koliko i uklanjanje više od 27.400 automobila put za godinu dana.

Učinite dobro djelo na kraju ove blagdanske sezone i pobrinite se da ti staklenički plinovi ostanu tamo gdje im je mjesto.

Reciklirajte svoje božićno drvce i pretvorite ga u malč

Božićna drvca predstavljaju jedan od rijetkih slučajeva gdje je najzeleniji način zbrinjavanja ujedno i najlakši. Malč bi mogao biti idealna sudbina za vaše drvo jer velik dio ugljika ostaje zarobljen u drvu, odakle se može vratiti u tlo. A ako živite u urbanom području, vjerojatno imate pristup odjelu za javne radove koji će sa zahvalnošću uzeti vaše stablo i pretvoriti ga u korisnu drvnu sječku za vrtove i parkove.

Kamo god ga donesete, uklonite sve ukrase, svjetla, šljokice, mreže, anđele i tako dalje prije nego što bacite svoje drvce. Ti predmeti neće pomoći vrtovima u rastu i predstavljaju opasnost za životinje.

Neka postane igračka za životinje

Ako nemate pristup urbanom programu recikliranja, ne bojte se. Drveće je, po definiciji, biorazgradivo, a životinje vole četinjače bile one žive ili mrtve.

Ostavite svoje drvo u šumi i vratite ga odakle je došlo. Stavite ga u svoje dvorište da ptice uživaju. Možete ga čak baciti u ribnjak ili jezero i revitalizirati svoju omiljenu jamu za pecanje—iako biste mogli prvo provjeriti s lokalnim odjelom za ribu i divljač.

Ili, ako živite blizu zoološkog vrta, pitajte žele li veliku igračku za svoje velike mačke. Lavovi i tigrovi navodno reagiraju na božićna drvca na isti način kao i njihovi manji rođaci, te će se satima motati po granama.

Samo svakako skinite sve ukrase, svjetla, a posebno imelu prije nego što odložite od svog drvca. Oni mogu ugušiti ili otrovati sve životinje koje ih pokušaju pojesti.

Nemojte zapaliti svoje božićno drvce

Božićna drvca čine loš ogrjev. Njihova zapaljiva ulja obložit će vaš dimnjak i povećati rizik od požara. Spaljivanjem također šaljete ugljik stabla natrag u atmosferu.

Nemojte dopustiti da završi na odlagalištu

Od svih mjesta na koja drvo može otići, odlagalište je apsolutno najgore za okoliš. Dok se drveće prirodno lomi, mnogo komunalnog smeća završi pod zemljom gdje ima malo kisika. Bakterije koje rastu na tim mjestima pretvaraju ugljik u otpadu u metan, što čini više od 20 puta veću štetu globalnim temperaturama od ugljičnog dioksida.

Prije nego što dopustite sakupljaču smeća da ga pokupi, provjerite s lokalnim sanitarnim odjelom kako biste saznali što planiraju učiniti s vašim starim božićnim drvcem. Na primjer, neka područja imaju vremenski okvir kada će malčirati biljke, kao što je preporučeno. Ali ako ništa drugo ne uspije i na kraju odnesete svoje stablo na smetlište, pokušajte se pobrinuti da završi iznad zemlje.
