Planinski lanci smatraju se najboljim lokacijama za sklonište od nuklearnog napada. Niz zemalja ima vojna skloništa ukopana duboko u planinske masive. Imao ga je i Tito (kod Konjica u BiH), a imaju ih i Sjedinjene Američke Države u planinskim kompleksima Cheyenne u Coloradu i kompleksu Raven Rock u Pennsylvaniji.

Javna je stvar da i ruski vođa Vladimir Putin također ima atomski bunker duboko unutar planinskog lanca na Uralu, ispod planine Jamantau, i još nekoliko na nepoznatim lokacijama. Možda u zadnje vrijeme šef Kremlja i sam širi takve glasine, jer su mu vijesti da je u atomskom bunkeru geopolitički korisne: u interesu mu je da članice NATO-a misle kako bi doista mogao upotrijebiti nuklearno oružje.

Ural je planinski pojas koji se proteže 2000 kilometara od ruskog sjevera prema jugu, te završava sjeverno od granice s Kazahstanom. Na satelitskim snimkama iz 1995. moglo se vidjeti kako se u planini Jamantau iskopava goleme nasipe i gradi vojna infrastruktura, ali je Rusija odbila elaborirati o čemu je riječ.

"Ne bi bilo nimalo iznenađujuće da Rusija ima ovakav vojni lokalitet. Ima ga i SAD, a planine su logično mjesto za njihovu izgradnju", rekao je za Newsweek Seth Baum, direktor Globalnog instituta za rizik od katastrofa. Uz Putinovu nuklearnu retoriku u toku ukrajinskog sukoba, dobra ‘mišja rupa‘ za skrivanje bila bi jedan od vrjednijih resursa ruskog lidera. No, u uvjetima interkontinentalnog nuklearnog rata ni planinski lanac nad glavom Putina ne bi baš spasio od dugoročnih posljedica atomskog uništenja.

"Nema dovoljno dobrog mjesta za skrivanje od planetarnog i ekološkog Armagedona koji bi nuklearni sukob velikih razmjera izazvao na zemlji", tvrdi Thom Davies, izvanredni profesor geografije na Sveučilištu Nottingham u Velikoj Britaniji.

Zašto se baš planinski lanci smatraju dobrim mjestima za izgradnju nuklearnih skloništa? Jer visoki obronci i niske doline planinskog područja pomažu u apsorpciji topline i svjetlosti vatrene kugle nakon nuklearne eksplozije, a donekle i početne radijacije. Osim toga, samo planinsko tlo će također apsorbirati zračenje i atomski udar: pod zemljom se radijacija može smanjiti za 10 puta u usporedbi s nadzemnim etažama. Međutim, loša je vijest da skrivanje u podzemlju planine ne može trajati vječno, a vanjski svijet u uvjetima općeg nuklearnog rata postaje neprepoznatljiv i nenastanjiv.

Planinski atomski kompleks Cheyenne u SAD-u izgrađen je ispod 600 metara granita, s vratima koja mogu izdržati nuklearnu eksploziju od 30 megatona na udaljenosti od 2 kilometra. Ova baza je prije bila domaćin Svemirskom zapovjedništvu Sjedinjenih Država i Zapovjedništvu obrambenog zrakoplovstva Sjeverne Amerike, a sada je pod jurisdikcijom Američkih svemirskih snaga. Usprkos tome što su planine za slučaj atomskog rata izabrale sve velesile, ipak postoje mjesta na svijetu na koja bi se u atomskom sukobu bilo bolje sakriti.

"Najsigurnija mjesta na svijetu u slučaju nuklearnog rata punog opsega bila bi izolirana zemljopisna područja poput Antarktika ili pacifičkih otoka poput Uskršnjeg otoka, tvrdi profesor Davies. No, čak ni tamo ne bi bilo moguće izbjeći uvjete tzv. nuklearne zime. Tijekom Hladnog rata ogromna američka nuklearna baza bila je upravo iz tih razloga tajno ukopana ispod Grenlanda, daleko u arktičkom krugu. Projekt je nazvan Iceworm, Ledeni Crv.

Temelji Putinova bunkera i atomskoga skloništa na Uralu također vjerojatno datiraju još iz Hladnog rata, a naknadno su možda tek šireni i dorađivani. Taj je lokalitet na Uralu za Moskvu dugo igrao važnu stratešku i geopolitičku ulogu, još od Drugog svjetskog rata i Hitlerove operacije Barbarossa, kad je cjelokupna sovjetska industrija premještena istočno od Urala. Uralska regija bila je i poprište najveće nuklearne nesreće u svjetskoj povijesti, odmah nakon Černobila i Fukushime. U tamošnjem gradu Kištimu, u oblasti Čeljabinsk, se rujna 1957. dogodio incident u tvornici za proizvodnju plutonija za sovjetsku vojsku, kad je eksplodirao podzemni spremnik tekućeg nuklearnog otpada. Eksplozija je kontaminirala barem 33 tisuće četvornih kilometara i izložila zračenju oko 300 tisuća ljudi. Događaj je zataškala tadašnja sovjetska vlast, a malo je ljudi čak i u Rusiji znalo za katastrofu sve do 1980-ih.

Po mnogima, sklonište na Uralu nije Putinova "mišja rupa" samo za slučaj nuklearnog rata, jer njegovo započinjanje on ipak najviše kontrolira. Ruski poznavatelji njegove psihe tvrde da se bivši KGB-ovac puno više boji prevrata ili ruskog narodnog ustanka protiv njegova vodstva. Kako bi bio siguran pri mogućem izbijanju ruske varijante ‘revolucije ruža‘ kakva je 2003. zadesila Gruziju, ili ‘revolucije tulipana‘ iz Kirgistana 2005., naprosto mora imati čvrstu i sigurnu utvrdu, po mogućnosti dovoljno daleko od velikih naselja.

Planinski lanci smatraju se najboljim lokacijama za sklonište od nuklearnog napada. Niz zemalja ima vojna skloništa ukopana duboko u planinske masive. Imao ga je i Tito (kod Konjica u BiH), a imaju ih i Sjedinjene Američke Države u planinskim kompleksima Cheyenne u Coloradu i kompleksu Raven Rock u Pennsylvaniji.

Javna je stvar da i ruski vođa Vladimir Putin također ima atomski bunker duboko unutar planinskog lanca na Uralu, ispod planine Jamantau, i još nekoliko na nepoznatim lokacijama. Možda u zadnje vrijeme šef Kremlja i sam širi takve glasine, jer su mu vijesti da je u atomskom bunkeru geopolitički korisne: u interesu mu je da članice NATO-a misle kako bi doista mogao upotrijebiti nuklearno oružje.

Ural je planinski pojas koji se proteže 2000 kilometara od ruskog sjevera prema jugu, te završava sjeverno od granice s Kazahstanom. Na satelitskim snimkama iz 1995. moglo se vidjeti kako se u planini Jamantau iskopava goleme nasipe i gradi vojna infrastruktura, ali je Rusija odbila elaborirati o čemu je riječ.

"Ne bi bilo nimalo iznenađujuće da Rusija ima ovakav vojni lokalitet. Ima ga i SAD, a planine su logično mjesto za njihovu izgradnju", rekao je za Newsweek Seth Baum, direktor Globalnog instituta za rizik od katastrofa. Uz Putinovu nuklearnu retoriku u toku ukrajinskog sukoba, dobra ‘mišja rupa‘ za skrivanje bila bi jedan od vrjednijih resursa ruskog lidera. No, u uvjetima interkontinentalnog nuklearnog rata ni planinski lanac nad glavom Putina ne bi baš spasio od dugoročnih posljedica atomskog uništenja.

"Nema dovoljno dobrog mjesta za skrivanje od planetarnog i ekološkog Armagedona koji bi nuklearni sukob velikih razmjera izazvao na zemlji", tvrdi Thom Davies, izvanredni profesor geografije na Sveučilištu Nottingham u Velikoj Britaniji.

Zašto se baš planinski lanci smatraju dobrim mjestima za izgradnju nuklearnih skloništa? Jer visoki obronci i niske doline planinskog područja pomažu u apsorpciji topline i svjetlosti vatrene kugle nakon nuklearne eksplozije, a donekle i početne radijacije. Osim toga, samo planinsko tlo će također apsorbirati zračenje i atomski udar: pod zemljom se radijacija može smanjiti za 10 puta u usporedbi s nadzemnim etažama. Međutim, loša je vijest da skrivanje u podzemlju planine ne može trajati vječno, a vanjski svijet u uvjetima općeg nuklearnog rata postaje neprepoznatljiv i nenastanjiv.

Planinski atomski kompleks Cheyenne u SAD-u izgrađen je ispod 600 metara granita, s vratima koja mogu izdržati nuklearnu eksploziju od 30 megatona na udaljenosti od 2 kilometra. Ova baza je prije bila domaćin Svemirskom zapovjedništvu Sjedinjenih Država i Zapovjedništvu obrambenog zrakoplovstva Sjeverne Amerike, a sada je pod jurisdikcijom Američkih svemirskih snaga. Usprkos tome što su planine za slučaj atomskog rata izabrale sve velesile, ipak postoje mjesta na svijetu na koja bi se u atomskom sukobu bilo bolje sakriti.

"Najsigurnija mjesta na svijetu u slučaju nuklearnog rata punog opsega bila bi izolirana zemljopisna područja poput Antarktika ili pacifičkih otoka poput Uskršnjeg otoka, tvrdi profesor Davies. No, čak ni tamo ne bi bilo moguće izbjeći uvjete tzv. nuklearne zime. Tijekom Hladnog rata ogromna američka nuklearna baza bila je upravo iz tih razloga tajno ukopana ispod Grenlanda, daleko u arktičkom krugu. Projekt je nazvan Iceworm, Ledeni Crv.

Temelji Putinova bunkera i atomskoga skloništa na Uralu također vjerojatno datiraju još iz Hladnog rata, a naknadno su možda tek šireni i dorađivani. Taj je lokalitet na Uralu za Moskvu dugo igrao važnu stratešku i geopolitičku ulogu, još od Drugog svjetskog rata i Hitlerove operacije Barbarossa, kad je cjelokupna sovjetska industrija premještena istočno od Urala. Uralska regija bila je i poprište najveće nuklearne nesreće u svjetskoj povijesti, odmah nakon Černobila i Fukushime. U tamošnjem gradu Kištimu, u oblasti Čeljabinsk, se rujna 1957. dogodio incident u tvornici za proizvodnju plutonija za sovjetsku vojsku, kad je eksplodirao podzemni spremnik tekućeg nuklearnog otpada. Eksplozija je kontaminirala barem 33 tisuće četvornih kilometara i izložila zračenju oko 300 tisuća ljudi. Događaj je zataškala tadašnja sovjetska vlast, a malo je ljudi čak i u Rusiji znalo za katastrofu sve do 1980-ih.

Po mnogima, sklonište na Uralu nije Putinova "mišja rupa" samo za slučaj nuklearnog rata, jer njegovo započinjanje on ipak najviše kontrolira. Ruski poznavatelji njegove psihe tvrde da se bivši KGB-ovac puno više boji prevrata ili ruskog narodnog ustanka protiv njegova vodstva. Kako bi bio siguran pri mogućem izbijanju ruske varijante ‘revolucije ruža‘ kakva je 2003. zadesila Gruziju, ili ‘revolucije tulipana‘ iz Kirgistana 2005., naprosto mora imati čvrstu i sigurnu utvrdu, po mogućnosti dovoljno daleko od velikih naselja.
