Dok je planinarila u Nacionalnom parku Grand Canyon na sjeverozapadu američke savezne države Arizone, Kristi Key naišla je na zabrinjavajući prizor - četiri planinara koji su odmarali pored staze. Key je za The Daily Beast rekla da je izgledalo kao da im nije dobro.

Nakon što su joj dvojica rekla da su noć prije povraćala, Key se ponudila da im dozove pomoć, no planinari su odbili njezin prijedlog. Međutim, kada je tijekom povratka s planinarenja vidjela da se nisu maknuli s mjesta na kojem ih je zatekla te da jedan od njih povraća, shvatila je kako je vrijeme da pozove hitne službe.

Helikopter je unesrećenog na koncu prebacio na sigurno. Key je za The Daily Beast rekla da tijekom svojih planinarskih ekspedicija u Grand Canyonu, koje su nerijetko bile duge i više stotina kilometara, nikada nije vidjela planinare koji su se mučili sa bilo čime osim s dehidracijom ili sunčanicom. Nakon što je član grupe planinara koje je zatekla pored ceste, a koji je inače odličnog zdravlja, prijavio ozbiljnije zdravstvene probleme, Key je posumnjala da se možda zarazio nekim virusom.

Grand Canyon žarište epidemije

Ispostavilo se da su njezine sumnje bile osnovane. Nacionalni park Grand Canyon trenutačno je žarište epidemije gastroenterološke bolesti koja nalikuje infekciji norovirusom. Norovirus je najčešći uzročnik gastroenteritisa, bolesti koje su najčešći simptomi proljev koji ne sadržava krv, povraćanje i bolovi u trbuhu, a moguće je da oboljeli dobiju i vrućicu te glavobolju. Simptomi se obično razviju 12 do 48 sati nakon infekcije, a oboljeli se uglavnom oporave unutar jednog do tri dana.

Bolest se rijetko kada zakomplicira, no osoba koju zadese komplikacije može dehidrirati. Norovirus se uglavnom širi oralnim putem ili putem fekalija.

Zaključno s 10. lipnja, Nacionalni je park imao informacije da se 118 osoba zarazilo virusom koji napada gastroenterološki sustav. Infekcije su zabilježene na 16 različitih putovanja duž rijeke Colorado i u nerazvijenim i izoliranim područjima kojima se teško pristupa. Većina oboljenja zabilježena su u svibnju, a najrecentniji slučaj zabilježen je 2. lipnja. Iz Nacionalnog su parka rekli da od 20. svibnja posjetitelje i druge upozoravaju na opasnost od virusa.

"Ovako nešto nismo vidjeli otprilike 10 godina", rekla je za The Daily Beast Jan Balsom, šefica za komunikacije, partnerstva i vanjske poslove u Uredu nadzornika Nacionalnog parka Grand Canyon. Balsom kaže da se i sama susrela s "neobičnom" epidemijom virusa kada se žena s kojom je bila na putovanju rijekom 12 sata nakon početka putovanja zarazila virusom. Žena, međutim, nije znala je li se zarazila norovirusom ili nekim drugim virusom.

Period u kojem se od zaraženog može prikupiti uzorak stolice kako bi se utvrdilo je li doista zaražen norovirusom nije dug. Putovanja rijekom nerijetko su duža od toga perioda, što znači da je često nemoguće utvrditi je li se osoba zarazila norovirusom.

Nepoznat izvor bolesti

Nacionalni park od svojih posjetitelja traži da piju vodu koja nije samo filtrirana, već i dezinficirana kemijskim putem ili prokuhana. Od njih se traži i da ne piju vodu iz vodopada, bazena ili potoka. U tijeku je istraga širenja virusa, a Balsom je istaknula da rijeka Colorado i nepristupačno područje u kojem posjetitelji parka mogu planinariti nisu povezani te da to komplicira slučaj širenja virusa.

"Dužnosnici intervjuiraju oboljele i testiraju uzorke stolica kako bi utvrdili radi li se o norovirusu ili ne", rekla je Balsom.

Dužnosnik Ureda za javno zdravstvo u Agenciji za nacionalne parkove Sjedinjenih Američkih Država rekao je The Daily Beastu da se epidemija tretira kao "jača gastroenterološka bolest" te da će istraga sve uzeti u obzir. "Trenutačno ne znamo izvor bolesti", rekao je dužnosnik.

Korisnici društvenih mreža opisali su s kakvim su se tegobama susreli tijekom planinarskih ekspedicija i tura. "Dopustite da vam kažem - kad ste bolesni i slabi, nemojte planinariti 2,4 kilometra tijekom kojih ćete se uspeti 365 metara", rekao je korisnik.

Dok je planinarila u Nacionalnom parku Grand Canyon na sjeverozapadu američke savezne države Arizone, Kristi Key naišla je na zabrinjavajući prizor - četiri planinara koji su odmarali pored staze. Key je za The Daily Beast rekla da je izgledalo kao da im nije dobro.

Nakon što su joj dvojica rekla da su noć prije povraćala, Key se ponudila da im dozove pomoć, no planinari su odbili njezin prijedlog. Međutim, kada je tijekom povratka s planinarenja vidjela da se nisu maknuli s mjesta na kojem ih je zatekla te da jedan od njih povraća, shvatila je kako je vrijeme da pozove hitne službe.

Helikopter je unesrećenog na koncu prebacio na sigurno. Key je za The Daily Beast rekla da tijekom svojih planinarskih ekspedicija u Grand Canyonu, koje su nerijetko bile duge i više stotina kilometara, nikada nije vidjela planinare koji su se mučili sa bilo čime osim s dehidracijom ili sunčanicom. Nakon što je član grupe planinara koje je zatekla pored ceste, a koji je inače odličnog zdravlja, prijavio ozbiljnije zdravstvene probleme, Key je posumnjala da se možda zarazio nekim virusom.

Grand Canyon žarište epidemije

Ispostavilo se da su njezine sumnje bile osnovane. Nacionalni park Grand Canyon trenutačno je žarište epidemije gastroenterološke bolesti koja nalikuje infekciji norovirusom. Norovirus je najčešći uzročnik gastroenteritisa, bolesti koje su najčešći simptomi proljev koji ne sadržava krv, povraćanje i bolovi u trbuhu, a moguće je da oboljeli dobiju i vrućicu te glavobolju. Simptomi se obično razviju 12 do 48 sati nakon infekcije, a oboljeli se uglavnom oporave unutar jednog do tri dana.

Bolest se rijetko kada zakomplicira, no osoba koju zadese komplikacije može dehidrirati. Norovirus se uglavnom širi oralnim putem ili putem fekalija.

Zaključno s 10. lipnja, Nacionalni je park imao informacije da se 118 osoba zarazilo virusom koji napada gastroenterološki sustav. Infekcije su zabilježene na 16 različitih putovanja duž rijeke Colorado i u nerazvijenim i izoliranim područjima kojima se teško pristupa. Većina oboljenja zabilježena su u svibnju, a najrecentniji slučaj zabilježen je 2. lipnja. Iz Nacionalnog su parka rekli da od 20. svibnja posjetitelje i druge upozoravaju na opasnost od virusa.

"Ovako nešto nismo vidjeli otprilike 10 godina", rekla je za The Daily Beast Jan Balsom, šefica za komunikacije, partnerstva i vanjske poslove u Uredu nadzornika Nacionalnog parka Grand Canyon. Balsom kaže da se i sama susrela s "neobičnom" epidemijom virusa kada se žena s kojom je bila na putovanju rijekom 12 sata nakon početka putovanja zarazila virusom. Žena, međutim, nije znala je li se zarazila norovirusom ili nekim drugim virusom.

Period u kojem se od zaraženog može prikupiti uzorak stolice kako bi se utvrdilo je li doista zaražen norovirusom nije dug. Putovanja rijekom nerijetko su duža od toga perioda, što znači da je često nemoguće utvrditi je li se osoba zarazila norovirusom.

Nepoznat izvor bolesti

Nacionalni park od svojih posjetitelja traži da piju vodu koja nije samo filtrirana, već i dezinficirana kemijskim putem ili prokuhana. Od njih se traži i da ne piju vodu iz vodopada, bazena ili potoka. U tijeku je istraga širenja virusa, a Balsom je istaknula da rijeka Colorado i nepristupačno područje u kojem posjetitelji parka mogu planinariti nisu povezani te da to komplicira slučaj širenja virusa.

"Dužnosnici intervjuiraju oboljele i testiraju uzorke stolica kako bi utvrdili radi li se o norovirusu ili ne", rekla je Balsom.

Dužnosnik Ureda za javno zdravstvo u Agenciji za nacionalne parkove Sjedinjenih Američkih Država rekao je The Daily Beastu da se epidemija tretira kao "jača gastroenterološka bolest" te da će istraga sve uzeti u obzir. "Trenutačno ne znamo izvor bolesti", rekao je dužnosnik.

Korisnici društvenih mreža opisali su s kakvim su se tegobama susreli tijekom planinarskih ekspedicija i tura. "Dopustite da vam kažem - kad ste bolesni i slabi, nemojte planinariti 2,4 kilometra tijekom kojih ćete se uspeti 365 metara", rekao je korisnik.

Dok je planinarila u Nacionalnom parku Grand Canyon na sjeverozapadu američke savezne države Arizone, Kristi Key naišla je na zabrinjavajući prizor - četiri planinara koji su odmarali pored staze. Key je za The Daily Beast rekla da je izgledalo kao da im nije dobro.

Nakon što su joj dvojica rekla da su noć prije povraćala, Key se ponudila da im dozove pomoć, no planinari su odbili njezin prijedlog. Međutim, kada je tijekom povratka s planinarenja vidjela da se nisu maknuli s mjesta na kojem ih je zatekla te da jedan od njih povraća, shvatila je kako je vrijeme da pozove hitne službe.

Helikopter je unesrećenog na koncu prebacio na sigurno. Key je za The Daily Beast rekla da tijekom svojih planinarskih ekspedicija u Grand Canyonu, koje su nerijetko bile duge i više...
