U stratosferi iznad Sjevernog pola formira se novi polarni vrtlog koji brzo jača te će nastaviti jačati s dolaskom zime. Kako objašnjava portal Severe Weather Europe, polarni vrtlog već dugo utječe na zimske vremenske prilike u Sjedinjenim Državama, Kanadi i Europi, osobito ako se počne urušavati.

Kako se približavamo jeseni, polarna područja se počinju hladiti jer manje sunčeve energije dopire do Sjevernog pola. No iako u polarnim krajevima temperature padaju, atmosfera je na jugu još uvijek relativno topla. Tako dolazi do temperaturne razlike između polarnih i suptropskih područja, pa se diljem sjeverne hemisfere počinje razvijati velika ciklonalna cirkulacija niskog tlaka. Proteže se od površinskih slojeva visoko u atmosferu. Ovo je poznato kao polarni vrtlog.

U stratosferi iznad Sjevernog pola formira se novi polarni vrtlog koji brzo jača te će nastaviti jačati s dolaskom zime. Kako objašnjava portal Severe Weather Europe, polarni vrtlog već dugo utječe na zimske vremenske prilike u Sjedinjenim Državama, Kanadi i Europi, osobito ako se počne urušavati.

Kako se približavamo jeseni, polarna područja se počinju hladiti jer manje sunčeve energije dopire do Sjevernog pola. No iako u polarnim krajevima temperature padaju, atmosfera je na jugu još uvijek relativno topla. Tako dolazi do temperaturne razlike između polarnih i suptropskih područja, pa se diljem sjeverne hemisfere počinje razvijati velika ciklonalna cirkulacija niskog tlaka.
