Denga groznica postat će ovog desetljeća velika prijetnja u južnoj Europi, južnom dijelu Sjedinjenih Država i dijelovima Afrike, budući da više temperature stvaraju povoljne uvjete za komarce koji prenose zarazu, rekao je glavni znanstvenik WHO-a.

Bolest je dugo bila pošast u velikom dijelu Azije i Latinske Amerike, uzrokujući procijenjenih 20 000 smrti svake godine. Stope bolesti već su porasle osam puta na globalnoj razini od 2000. godine, uglavnom potaknute klimatskim promjenama, kao i povećanim kretanjem ljudi i urbanizacijom.

Mnogi slučajevi ostaju nezabilježeni, ali 2022. u svijetu je prijavljeno 4,2 milijuna slučajeva, a dužnosnici za javno zdravstvo upozorili su da se ove godine očekuju rekordne razine prijenosa. Bangladeš trenutno doživljava najgoru epidemiju ikada, s više od 1000 smrtnih slučajeva.

"Moramo mnogo proaktivnije razgovarati o denga groznici", rekao je za Reuters Jeremy Farrar, specijalist za zarazne bolesti koji se pridružio Svjetskoj zdravstvenoj organizaciji (WHO) u svibnju ove godine. "Moramo stvarno pripremiti zemlje za to kako će se nositi s dodatnim pritiskom koji će doći... u budućnosti u mnogim, mnogim velikim gradovima."

Farrar je prethodno proveo 18 godina radeći u Vijetnamu na tropskim bolestima uključujući denga groznicu. Kasnije je vodio globalnu zdravstvenu dobrotvornu organizaciju Wellcome Trust i savjetovao vladu Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva o odgovoru na covid-19 prije nego što se pridružio WHO-u u svibnju ove godine.

Farrar je rekao da će zaraza vjerojatno "uzletjeti" i postati endemična u dijelovima Sjedinjenih Država, Europe i Afrike - regijama u kojima je već bilo ograničenog lokalnog prijenosa - budući da globalno zatopljenje nova područja čini gostoljubivim za komarce koji je šire. To će dovesti do velikog pritiska na bolničke sustave u mnogim zemljama, upozorio je.

"Klinička skrb je zaista intenzivna, zahtijeva visok omjer medicinskih sestara i pacijenata", rekao je. "Stvarno se brinem kada ovo postane veliki problem u subsaharskoj Africi."

Većina ljudi koji dobiju denga groznicu nemaju simptome, što znači da se smatra da su stope slučajeva daleko veće od prijavljenih brojeva. Među simptomima su groznica, grčevi mišića i bolovi u zglobovima, a u manje od jedan posto slučajeva bolest rezultira smrću.

Ne postoji specifično liječenje za denga groznicu, iako postoji dostupno cjepivo. Ranije ovog tjedna, WHO je preporučio cjepivo Qdenga tvrtke Takeda Pharmaceuticals za djecu od 6 do 16 godina u područjima gdje je infekcija značajan javnozdravstveni problem.

Qdenga je također odobrena od strane EU regulatora, ali Takeda je povukla svoju prijavu u Sjedinjenim Državama ranije ove godine, navodeći kao razlog probleme u prikupljanju podataka. Takeda je rekla da još uvijek pregovara s američkom Upravom za hranu i lijekove o cjepivu.

Denga se širi zaraženim komarcima vrste Aedes aegypti, koji se ponašaju drugačije od vrste koja prenosi malariju. Na primjer, grizu ljude u zatvorenom prostoru, te čitavog dana, a ne samo preko noći.

Denga groznica postat će ovog desetljeća velika prijetnja u južnoj Europi, južnom dijelu Sjedinjenih Država i dijelovima Afrike, budući da više temperature stvaraju povoljne uvjete za komarce koji prenose zarazu, rekao je glavni znanstvenik WHO-a.

Bolest je dugo bila pošast u velikom dijelu Azije i Latinske Amerike, uzrokujući procijenjenih 20 000 smrti svake godine. Stope bolesti već su porasle osam puta na globalnoj razini od 2000. godine, uglavnom potaknute klimatskim promjenama, kao i povećanim kretanjem ljudi i urbanizacijom.

Mnogi slučajevi ostaju nezabilježeni, ali 2022. u svijetu je prijavljeno 4,2 milijuna slučajeva, a dužnosnici za javno zdravstvo upozorili su da se ove godine očekuju rekordne razine prijenosa. Bangladeš trenutno doživljava najgoru epidemiju ikada, s više od 1000 smrtnih slučajeva.

"Moramo mnogo proaktivnije razgovarati o denga groznici", rekao je za Reuters Jeremy Farrar, specijalist za zarazne bolesti koji se pridružio Svjetskoj zdravstvenoj organizaciji (WHO) u svibnju ove godine. "Moramo stvarno pripremiti zemlje za to kako će se nositi s dodatnim pritiskom koji će doći... u budućnosti u mnogim, mnogim velikim gradovima."

Farrar je prethodno proveo 18 godina radeći u Vijetnamu na tropskim bolestima uključujući denga groznicu. Kasnije je vodio globalnu zdravstvenu dobrotvornu organizaciju Wellcome Trust i savjetovao vladu Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva o odgovoru na covid-19 prije nego što se pridružio WHO-u u svibnju ove godine.

Farrar je rekao da će zaraza vjerojatno "uzletjeti" i postati endemična u dijelovima Sjedinjenih Država, Europe i Afrike - regijama u kojima je već bilo ograničenog lokalnog prijenosa - budući da globalno zatopljenje nova područja čini gostoljubivim za komarce koji je šire. To će dovesti do velikog pritiska na bolničke sustave u mnogim zemljama, upozorio je.

"Klinička skrb je zaista intenzivna, zahtijeva visok omjer medicinskih sestara i pacijenata", rekao je. "Stvarno se brinem kada ovo postane veliki problem u subsaharskoj Africi."

Većina ljudi koji dobiju denga groznicu nemaju simptome, što znači da se smatra da su stope slučajeva daleko veće od prijavljenih brojeva. Među simptomima su groznica, grčevi mišića i bolovi u zglobovima, a u manje od jedan posto slučajeva bolest rezultira smrću.

Ne postoji specifično liječenje za denga groznicu, iako postoji dostupno cjepivo. Ranije ovog tjedna, WHO je preporučio cjepivo Qdenga tvrtke Takeda Pharmaceuticals za djecu od 6 do 16 godina u područjima gdje je infekcija značajan javnozdravstveni problem.

Qdenga je također odobrena od strane EU regulatora, ali Takeda je povukla svoju prijavu u Sjedinjenim Državama ranije ove godine, navodeći kao razlog probleme u prikupljanju podataka. Takeda je rekla da još uvijek pregovara s američkom Upravom za hranu i lijekove o cjepivu.

Denga se širi zaraženim komarcima vrste Aedes aegypti, koji se ponašaju drugačije od vrste koja prenosi malariju. Na primjer, grizu ljude u zatvorenom prostoru, te čitavog dana, a ne samo preko noći.
