Na mjestu gdje bi božićna atmosfera trebala biti najživopisnija i najsvečanija, ove je godine sve pusto i čemerno, jer se tisuće hodočasnika koje bi u normalnim godinama napunile Betlehem - mjesto koje se smatra rođenjem Isusa Krista - nisu pojavile pošto je svečanost otkazana iz opravdanog straha za sigurnost.

"Grad je ispražnjen od sreće, radosti, djece, Djeda Mraza. Nema slavlja ove godine", kaže za BBC Madeleine, stanovnica Betlehema, koji je naslonjen na Jeruzalem, ali se nalazi na teritoriju palestinske Zapadne obale.

Slavno božićno drvce, koje se obično nalazi na samom središtu Trga jaslica, također nije postavljeno. Nema božićnih pjesama niti štandova. Umjesto uobičajenih jaslica s prikazom rođenja Isusa, sada je tu inačica koja simbolizira stradanje i patnju djece u Gazi, s novorođenim Isusom okruženim bodljikavom žicom i stijenama, prenpsi Jutarnji list.

Malo dalje je verzija s Isusom u inkubatoru. U potpuno praznoj Bazilici Isusova rođenja, otac Eissa Thaldjiya govori da je grad sjena samoga sebe.

"Svećenik sam u ovoj crkvi već 12 godina. Rođen sam u Betlehemu i nikada ga nisam vidio ovakvog, čak ni u vrijeme pandemije. Imamo braću i sestre u Gazi, zbog toga nam je teško slaviti, ali je dobro biti ujedinjen u molitvi", kaže za BBC.

Crkvena zvona se oglašavaju dok se malobrojni mještani okupljaju oko jaslica na trgu, a iz zvučnika odzvanjaju pjesme na arapskom koje pozivaju na salam - na mir - zbog djece. Deseci ljudi stoje u sredini i mašu palestinskim zastavama.

Latinski patrijarh jeruzalemski Pierbattista Pizzaballa - pripadnik Katoličke crkve - u Betlehemu je zbog svog tradicionalnog godišnjeg obraćanja puku. Nosi tradicionalni crno-bijeli kockasti palestinski šal. Netom prije ulaska u Baziliku Isusova rođenja kratko progovara - "tužan je ovo Božić".

"Usred rata smo, strašnog rata. Naše misli idu prvenstveno prema Gazi, prema našem narodu u Gazi... Dva milijuna pate", kazuje za BBC i dodaje da "primirje nije dovoljno".

"Moramo zaustaviti ova neprijateljstva i preokrenuti stranicu, jer nasilje samo generira novo nasilje."

Par koraka dalje od Trga jaslica, suvenirnice su naredane po Ulici zvijezde na obje strane, ali bez uobičajene buke i cjenkanja trgovaca i kupaca. Poznati palestinski šalovi, jastučnice i drugi suveniri vise ispred trgovina, neprodani i netaknuti.

Ovo je inače vrhunac sezone za ove trgovce. Ali ne i ove godine.

"Ne možemo slaviti dok toliko ljudi umire u Gazi", kaže Abood Subouh, trgovac s dućanom nedaleko od Trga. "Ne možemo biti sretni jer nismo na drugoj strani svijeta. Ovo je i dalje Palestina".

Na mjestu gdje bi božićna atmosfera trebala biti najživopisnija i najsvečanija, ove je godine sve pusto i čemerno, jer se tisuće hodočasnika koje bi u normalnim godinama napunile Betlehem - mjesto koje se smatra rođenjem Isusa Krista - nisu pojavile pošto je svečanost otkazana iz opravdanog straha za sigurnost.

"Grad je ispražnjen od sreće, radosti, djece, Djeda Mraza. Nema slavlja ove godine", kaže za BBC Madeleine, stanovnica Betlehema, koji je naslonjen na Jeruzalem, ali se nalazi na teritoriju palestinske Zapadne obale.

Slavno božićno drvce, koje se obično nalazi na samom središtu Trga jaslica, također nije postavljeno. Nema božićnih pjesama niti štandova. Umjesto uobičajenih jaslica s prikazom rođenja Isusa, sada je tu inačica koja simbolizira stradanje i patnju djece u Gazi, s novorođenim Isusom okruženim bodljikavom žicom i stijenama, prenpsi Jutarnji list.

Malo dalje je verzija s Isusom u inkubatoru. U potpuno praznoj Bazilici Isusova rođenja, otac Eissa Thaldjiya govori da je grad sjena samoga sebe.

"Svećenik sam u ovoj crkvi već 12 godina. Rođen sam u Betlehemu i nikada ga nisam vidio ovakvog, čak ni u vrijeme pandemije. Imamo braću i sestre u Gazi, zbog toga nam je teško slaviti, ali je dobro biti ujedinjen u molitvi", kaže za BBC.

Crkvena zvona se oglašavaju dok se malobrojni mještani okupljaju oko jaslica na trgu, a iz zvučnika odzvanjaju pjesme na arapskom koje pozivaju na salam - na mir - zbog djece. Deseci ljudi stoje u sredini i mašu palestinskim zastavama.

Latinski patrijarh jeruzalemski Pierbattista Pizzaballa - pripadnik Katoličke crkve - u Betlehemu je zbog svog tradicionalnog godišnjeg obraćanja puku. Nosi tradicionalni crno-bijeli kockasti palestinski šal. Netom prije ulaska u Baziliku Isusova rođenja kratko progovara - "tužan je ovo Božić".

"Usred rata smo, strašnog rata. Naše misli idu prvenstveno prema Gazi, prema našem narodu u Gazi... Dva milijuna pate", kazuje za BBC i dodaje da "primirje nije dovoljno".

"Moramo zaustaviti ova neprijateljstva i preokrenuti stranicu, jer nasilje samo generira novo nasilje."

Par koraka dalje od Trga jaslica, suvenirnice su naredane po Ulici zvijezde na obje strane, ali bez uobičajene buke i cjenkanja trgovaca i kupaca. Poznati palestinski šalovi, jastučnice i drugi suveniri vise ispred trgovina, neprodani i netaknuti.

Ovo je inače vrhunac sezone za ove trgovce. Ali ne i ove godine.

"Ne možemo slaviti dok toliko ljudi umire u Gazi", kaže Abood Subouh, trgovac s dućanom nedaleko od Trga. "Ne možemo biti sretni jer nismo na drugoj strani svijeta. Ovo je i dalje Palestina".
