Svijet tenisa dobio je novu hit-braću. Dolaze iz Argentine, prezimena Cerundolo i malo je nedostajalo da postanu prva braća u Open eri koja su tjedan za tjedan osvojila ATP turnire.

Juan Manuel (19) pretprošlog je tjedna kao kvalifikant i potpuni autsajder osvojio Cordobu u debitantskom nastupu na Touru, a prošlog tjedna Francisco (22) je u Buenos Airesu također krenuo iz kvalifikacija i dogurao do finala, ali je ondje poražen. Zadnja braća koja su igrala finala u uzastopnim tjednima bila su Alexander i Mischa Zverev 2017. godine.

- Vidjeti brata kako osvaja turnir bilo je jako motivirajuće. Obično on mene pita za savjet, ali sada ću ja morati njega - našalio se Francisco kojeg je upoznala i splitska publika budući da je prošle jeseni osvojio Challenger na Firulama, što mu je bio prvi trofej na toj razini.

Do kraja prošle godine osvojio je još dva Challengera, no 2021. godina nije mu počela po željama jer je u siječnju dobio pozitivan test na Covid-19 zbog čega se morao povući iz kvalifikacija Australian Opena. Ipak, kratka pauza nije ga poremetila te je u svom rodnom Buenos Airesu došao do prvog ATP finala u kojem je izgubio od sunarodnjaka Diega Schwartzmana. Cijela je ta priča mogla skončati još u kvalifikacijama jer je u prvom kolu protiv Brazilca Menezesa Cerundolo zaostajao set i "break", a ovako se može pohvaliti prvim finalom na Touru i najboljim renkingom karijere (112.).

Iako je Francisco tri godine stariji i ranije se probio među 200, prvi je do ATP titule stigao njegov mlađi brat Juan Manuel. On je u Cordobi baš šokirao teniski svijet budući da je u turnir ušao kao 335. tenisač svijeta koji do tog trenutka nije odigrao ni jedan meč u glavnom ždrijebu ATP turnira. Na opće iznenađenje, nanizao je osam pobjeda u devet dana i otišao do kraja! Time je praktički prepolovio vlastiti renking i sada je 182. u poretku.

- Nikad nisam mogao ni zamisliti da ću osvojiti titulu. Možda je to bio ključ jer se ni u jednom trenutku nisam osjećao nervozno - komentirao je Juan Manuel, po vlastitom priznanju defenzivniji igrač od brata. Pomiješati ih ne možete, ne samo zato što su fizički dovoljno različiti, već i zbog toga što je Juan Manuel ljevak, a Francisco dešnjak.

Obojica su na ponos ocu Alejandru, također bivšem tenisaču iz 80-ih godina prošlog stoljeća, mami Mariji Lue i sestri Constanzi koja igra hokej na travi za reprezentaciju Argentine.

Braća su nastupala na istom turniru u Cordobi i Buenos Airesu, a i ovog su tjedna zajedno bili u kosturu turnira u Santiagu. Samo je pitanje vremena kada će ih ždrijeb spojiti na terenu pa da vidimo tko je trenutno najbolji tenisač u obitelji Cerundolo.

Svijet tenisa dobio je novu hit-braću. Dolaze iz Argentine, prezimena Cerundolo i malo je nedostajalo da postanu prva braća u Open eri koja su tjedan za tjedan osvojila ATP turnire.

Juan Manuel (19) pretprošlog je tjedna kao kvalifikant i potpuni autsajder osvojio Cordobu u debitantskom nastupu na Touru, a prošlog tjedna Francisco (22) je u Buenos Airesu također krenuo iz kvalifikacija i dogurao do finala, ali je ondje poražen. Zadnja braća koja su igrala finala u uzastopnim tjednima bila su Alexander i Mischa Zverev 2017. godine.

- Vidjeti brata kako osvaja turnir bilo je jako motivirajuće. Obično on mene pita za savjet, ali sada ću ja morati njega - našalio se Francisco kojeg je upoznala i splitska publika budući da je prošle jeseni osvojio Challenger na Firulama, što mu je bio prvi trofej na toj razini.

Do kraja prošle godine osvojio je još dva Challengera, no 2021. godina nije mu počela po željama jer je u siječnju dobio pozitivan test na Covid-19 zbog čega se morao povući iz kvalifikacija Australian Opena. Ipak, kratka pauza nije ga poremetila te je u svom rodnom Buenos Airesu došao do prvog ATP finala u kojem je izgubio od sunarodnjaka Diega Schwartzmana. Cijela je ta priča mogla skončati još u kvalifikacijama jer je u prvom kolu protiv Brazilca Menezesa Cerundolo zaostajao set i "break", a ovako se može pohvaliti prvim finalom na Touru i najboljim renkingom karijere (112.).

Iako je Francisco tri godine stariji i ranije se probio među 200, prvi je do ATP titule stigao njegov mlađi brat Juan Manuel. On je u Cordobi baš šokirao teniski svijet budući da je u turnir ušao kao 335. tenisač svijeta koji do tog trenutka nije odigrao ni jedan meč u glavnom ždrijebu ATP turnira. Na opće iznenađenje, nanizao je osam pobjeda u devet dana i otišao do kraja! Time je praktički prepolovio vlastiti renking i sada je 182. u poretku.

- Nikad nisam mogao ni zamisliti da ću osvojiti titulu. Možda je to bio ključ jer se ni u jednom trenutku nisam osjećao nervozno - komentirao je Juan Manuel, po vlastitom priznanju defenzivniji igrač od brata. Pomiješati ih ne možete, ne samo zato što su fizički dovoljno različiti, već i zbog toga što je Juan Manuel ljevak, a Francisco dešnjak.

Obojica su na ponos ocu Alejandru, također bivšem tenisaču iz 80-ih godina prošlog stoljeća, mami Mariji Lue i sestri Constanzi koja igra hokej na travi za reprezentaciju Argentine.

Braća su nastupala na istom turniru u Cordobi i Buenos Airesu, a i ovog su tjedna zajedno bili u kosturu turnira u Santiagu. Samo je pitanje vremena kada će ih ždrijeb spojiti na terenu pa da vidimo tko je trenutno najbolji tenisač u obitelji Cerundolo.
