U svome nasrtaju na Šibenik rujna 1991. godine, velikosrpski agresor i pobunjeni Srbi razarali su grad s mora i iz zraka, izbivši i svojim oklopnim snagama 16. rujna na šibenski most.
Dva dana kasnije, 18. rujna, agresori su s jednog torpednog čamca jugomornarice, oko 8.15 sati, automatskim topom od 40 mm pogodili kupolu katedrale sv. Jakova s namjerom da je sruše.
Bio je to neviđen barbarski čin oskvrnuća znamenitog sakralnog objekta i povijesnog spomenika svjetske kulturne baštine.
Eksplozija granate prouzročila je značajne štete – rupu na kupoli, veličine tridesetak centimetara. Narušena je cijela statika kupole s rebrastim kamenim pločama koje su je "složile" bez drugog veziva.
Trebalo je dosta vremena i umijeća da se obnovi to maestralno djelo renesansnoga graditelja Nikole Firentinca, njezinim oblikom po ugledu na čuvenu kupolu bazilike Santa Maria del fiore u Firenci.
Radnik alpinist
Izgrađene su skele do samoga vrha, zamijenjena je uz napore i rizike na visini od 35 metara oštećena ploča, ali je morao biti skinut i sam teški zaglavni kamen, koji kupolu drži "na okupu" nad četvrtastim tamburom na kojem počiva.
Radove je s ekipom stručnjaka vodio ing. Zvonko Najev, u to vrijeme pročelnik Odjela za graditeljstvo Šibenske biskupije. Nakon završetka rata obnova kupole i drugih dijelova katedrale je bila dugotrajna.

Uspjeli smo se jednom uspeti do vrha skele gdje smo vidjeli radnika alpinista kako istražuje učinke udara granate, i to gotovo bez ikakve zaštitne opreme, držeći se samo za šipku gromobrana koja je na jednome mjestu bila i prekinuta, po kojoj se s ruba skele čini se i popeo.
A golemi zaglavni kamen spušten je do tla dizalicom. Njegovi razmjeri vidljivi su u usporedbi s ing. Najevom kraj njega.
Kad je izvana crkve sve bilo gotovo, prišlo se obnovi unutrašnjosti koja je započela 2012. i trajala pune tri godine.
Nakon toga je šibenska prvostolnica zasjala punim sjajem te potom bila uvrštena u UNESCO-ov popis svjetske kulturne baštine.
Dan 18. rujna 1991. i rana koju je katedrala zadobila od pomahnitalog agresora nikad neće biti zaboravljeni.

U svome nasrtaju na Šibenik rujna 1991. godine, velikosrpski agresor i pobunjeni Srbi razarali su grad s mora i iz zraka, izbivši i svojim oklopnim snagama 16. rujna na šibenski most.
Dva dana kasnije, 18. rujna, agresori su s jednog torpednog čamca jugomornarice, oko 8.15 sati, automatskim topom od 40 mm pogodili kupolu katedrale sv. Jakova s namjerom da je sruše.
Bio je to neviđen barbarski čin oskvrnuća znamenitog sakralnog objekta i povijesnog spomenika svjetske kulturne baštine.
Eksplozija granate prouzročila je značajne štete – rupu na kupoli, veličine tridesetak centimetara. Narušena je cijela statika kupole s rebrastim kamenim pločama koje su je "složile" bez drugog veziva.
Trebalo je dosta vremena i umijeća da se obnovi to maestralno djelo renesansnoga graditelja Nikole Firentinca, njezinim oblikom po ugledu na čuvenu kupolu bazilike Santa Maria del fiore u Firenci.
Radnik alpinist
Izgrađene su skele do samoga vrha, zamijenjena je uz napore i rizike na visini od 35 metara oštećena ploča, ali je morao biti skinut i sam teški zaglavni kamen, koji kupolu drži "na okupu" nad četvrtastim tamburom na kojem počiva.
Radove je s ekipom stručnjaka vodio ing. Zvonko Najev, u to vrijeme pročelnik Odjela za graditeljstvo Šibenske biskupije. Nakon završetka rata obnova kupole i drugih dijelova katedrale je bila dugotrajna.

Uspjeli smo se jednom uspeti do vrha skele gdje smo vidjeli radnika alpinista kako istražuje učinke udara granate, i to gotovo bez ikakve zaštitne opreme, držeći se samo za šipku gromobrana koja je na jednome mjestu bila i prekinuta, po kojoj se s ruba skele čini se i popeo.
A golemi zaglavni kamen spušten je do tla dizalicom. Njegovi razmjeri vidljivi su u usporedbi s ing. Najevom kraj njega.
Kad je izvana crkve sve bilo gotovo, prišlo se obnovi unutrašnjosti koja je započela 2012. i trajala pune tri godine.
Nakon toga je šibenska prvostolnica zasjala punim sjajem te potom bila uvrštena u UNESCO-ov popis svjetske kulturne baštine.
Dan 18. rujna 1991. i rana koju je katedrala zadobila od pomahnitalog agresora nikad neće biti zaboravljeni.
