Španjolski avanturist Antonio de la Rosa početkom ovog siječnja krenuo je na vesla u 7-metarskom čamcu kako bi bio prva osoba koja će sama doveslati do Antarktika.
U plovilu Ocean Defender, krenuo je s rta Horn, najjužnije točke Južne Amerike, te je veslao prema južnom dijelu Arhipelaga Elephant Island, udaljenom 903 km u antarktičkom arhipelagu. Vrlo malo toga je išlo po planu na njegovom 26-dnevnoj avanturi.
Kako prenosi bbc.com, ledeni valovi i antarktički vjetrovi do 120 km/h držali su 7-metarski čamac na vesla danima privezan za luku. Zbog nemirnog mora de la Rosa se oslanjao na penjački pojas kako ne bi ispao iz čamca dok su ga valovi bacali na sve strane. Oceanske struje gurale su ga istočno od njegovog kursa, bez obzira koliko je jako veslao protiv njih. Zboga je tih dana jako malo spavao pokušavajući se održati u pravom smjeru. No, priroda je bila jača pa je mijenjao smjer putovanja.
Nakon dva tjedna, vlaga u kabini i udar tolikih valova pokvarili su de la Rosinu tehnologiju na brodu, pa se i autopilot ubrzo pokvario. Nakon 2380 km i 26 dana de la Rosa stigao je u Južnu Georgiju, vulkanski otok u južnom Atlantiku.
- Bilo je iznimno teško zbog vremenskih uvjeta najviše, nemilosrdnih valova od desetak metara koji su moj brod okretali za 360 stupnjeva.
Ovo putovanje u kojem sam se iz prve ruke uvjerio u stanje i prilike na tom dijelu svijeta. Ima mjesta gdje se vidi da ljudska ruka nije intervenirala, ali moram kazati da sam putem naišao na goleme otoke od plastičnog otpada - kazao je ovaj pustolov prema čijoj ideji je dizajniran brod namjenjen za ove svrhe, no unatoč svemu, more je ipak bilo jače te ga je prevrtalo kao lopticu.
Na putu je bio posve sam, tek uz kratku pratnju spasilačkog broda čileanske mornarice koja je zahtjevala da bude u pratnji, u slučaju potrebe.
Poput prvih španjolskih istraživača, putovao je bez fosilnih goriva, koristeći samo vlastitu snagu veslajući i koristeći prednosti oceanskih struja i vjetra.
Osim sportskog izazova, de la Rosa je putem dokumentirao stanje Južnog oceana.

Španjolski avanturist Antonio de la Rosa početkom ovog siječnja krenuo je na vesla u 7-metarskom čamcu kako bi bio prva osoba koja će sama doveslati do Antarktika.
U plovilu Ocean Defender, krenuo je s rta Horn, najjužnije točke Južne Amerike, te je veslao prema južnom dijelu Arhipelaga Elephant Island, udaljenom 903 km u antarktičkom arhipelagu. Vrlo malo toga je išlo po planu na njegovom 26-dnevnoj avanturi.
Kako prenosi bbc.com, ledeni valovi i antarktički vjetrovi do 120 km/h držali su 7-metarski čamac na vesla danima privezan za luku. Zbog nemirnog mora de la Rosa se oslanjao na penjački pojas kako ne bi ispao iz čamca dok su ga valovi bacali na sve strane. Oceanske struje gurale su ga istočno od njegovog kursa, bez obzira koliko je jako veslao protiv njih. Zboga je tih dana jako malo spavao pokušavajući se održati u pravom smjeru. No, priroda je bila jača pa je mijenjao smjer putovanja.
Nakon dva tjedna, vlaga u kabini i udar tolikih valova pokvarili su de la Rosinu tehnologiju na brodu, pa se i autopilot ubrzo pokvario. Nakon 2380 km i 26 dana de la Rosa stigao je u Južnu Georgiju, vulkanski otok u južnom Atlantiku.
- Bilo je iznimno teško zbog vremenskih uvjeta najviše, nemilosrdnih valova od desetak metara koji su moj brod okretali za 360 stupnjeva.
Ovo putovanje u kojem sam se iz prve ruke uvjerio u stanje i prilike na tom dijelu svijeta. Ima mjesta gdje se vidi da ljudska ruka nije intervenirala, ali moram kazati da sam putem naišao na goleme otoke od plastičnog otpada - kazao je ovaj pustolov prema čijoj ideji je dizajniran brod namjenjen za ove svrhe, no unatoč svemu, more je ipak bilo jače te ga je prevrtalo kao lopticu.
Na putu je bio posve sam, tek uz kratku pratnju spasilačkog broda čileanske mornarice koja je zahtjevala da bude u pratnji, u slučaju potrebe.
Poput prvih španjolskih istraživača, putovao je bez fosilnih goriva, koristeći samo vlastitu snagu veslajući i koristeći prednosti oceanskih struja i vjetra.
Osim sportskog izazova, de la Rosa je putem dokumentirao stanje Južnog oceana.
