Američka svemirska agencija NASA u četvrtak planira na Međunarodnu svemirsku stanicu (ISS) poslati 128 mladih lignji ili paralarvi i 5000 mikroskopskih životinja dugoživaca (tardigrada), koji se zbog svojeg izgleda kolokvijalno nazivaju vodeni medvjedići, piše BBC.
Sićušna stvorenja će se, zajedno s ostalom opremom za eksperimente, na ISS lansirati na raketi Falcon 9 tvrtke SpaceX, a svrha njihova putovanja do orbitalne ispostave je pomoći znanstvenicima da pronađu odgovore na ključna pitanja o svemirskim letovima i dio su istraživanja o učinku svemirskog leta na složene interakcije između korisnih mikroba i životinja.
Lansiranje je predviđeno s podloge 39A iz NASA-inog svemirskog centra Kennedy na Floridi u četvrtak u 13:29 (17:29 GMT) i NASA će ga izravno prenositi.
Stručnjaci su pojasnili da se mlade lignje i vodeni medvjedići koriste jer je njihov imunosni sustav sličan ljudskom.
Eksperiment bi znanstvenicima trebao omogućiti daljnji razvoj zaštitnih mjera čija je svrha očuvanje zdravlja astronauta tijekom dugih svemirskih misija.
NASA u svemir šalje paralarve ili mlade lignje da bi se doznalo kako se odnos lignje i skupine simbiotskih mikroba ponaša u mikrogravitaciji.
"Životinje se, poput ljudi, oslanjaju na svoje mikrobe da bi vlastiti probavni i imunosni sustav održali zdravima. A mi još u potpunosti ne razumijemo na koji način let u svemir utječe na ove korisne interakcije", rekla je znanstvenica Jamie Foster, dodavši da bi mlade lignje trebale pridonijeti razumijevanju "važnih pitanja o zdravlju životinja". Prije povratka na Zemlju lignje će biti zamrznute, piše BBC.
NASA na ISS šalje i 5000 vodenih medvjedića, mikroskopskih životinja koje mogu preživjeti u različitim ekstremnim okruženjima za razliku od ostalih živih bića.
Upravo zbog toga savršeni su za proučavanja o tomu na koji način živa bića reagiraju i kako se prilagođavaju ekstremnim okruženjima. Cilj je iskoristiti dobivene informacije da bi se bolje razumjeli faktori koji utječu na zdravlje astronauta tijekom dugih svemirskih misija.
"Jedan od naših ciljeva je shvatiti na koji način vodeni medvjedići preživljavaju i reproduciraju se u takvom okruženju te pokušati ustanoviti možemo li nešto naučiti o 'trikovima' kojima se pritom koriste da bismo ih kasnije iskoristili u zaštiti astronauta", rekao je Thomas Boothby, voditelj eksperimenta.
Još jedan od ciljeva misije je ustanoviti mogu li se robotske ruke koristiti na daljinu upotrebom tehnologije virtualne stvarnosti.

Američka svemirska agencija NASA u četvrtak planira na Međunarodnu svemirsku stanicu (ISS) poslati 128 mladih lignji ili paralarvi i 5000 mikroskopskih životinja dugoživaca (tardigrada), koji se zbog svojeg izgleda kolokvijalno nazivaju vodeni medvjedići, piše BBC.
Sićušna stvorenja će se, zajedno s ostalom opremom za eksperimente, na ISS lansirati na raketi Falcon 9 tvrtke SpaceX, a svrha njihova putovanja do orbitalne ispostave je pomoći znanstvenicima da pronađu odgovore na ključna pitanja o svemirskim letovima i dio su istraživanja o učinku svemirskog leta na složene interakcije između korisnih mikroba i životinja.
Lansiranje je predviđeno s podloge 39A iz NASA-inog svemirskog centra Kennedy na Floridi u četvrtak u 13:29 (17:29 GMT) i NASA će ga izravno prenositi.
Stručnjaci su pojasnili da se mlade lignje i vodeni medvjedići koriste jer je njihov imunosni sustav sličan ljudskom.
Eksperiment bi znanstvenicima trebao omogućiti daljnji razvoj zaštitnih mjera čija je svrha očuvanje zdravlja astronauta tijekom dugih svemirskih misija.
NASA u svemir šalje paralarve ili mlade lignje da bi se doznalo kako se odnos lignje i skupine simbiotskih mikroba ponaša u mikrogravitaciji.
"Životinje se, poput ljudi, oslanjaju na svoje mikrobe da bi vlastiti probavni i imunosni sustav održali zdravima. A mi još u potpunosti ne razumijemo na koji način let u svemir utječe na ove korisne interakcije", rekla je znanstvenica Jamie Foster, dodavši da bi mlade lignje trebale pridonijeti razumijevanju "važnih pitanja o zdravlju životinja". Prije povratka na Zemlju lignje će biti zamrznute, piše BBC.
NASA na ISS šalje i 5000 vodenih medvjedića, mikroskopskih životinja koje mogu preživjeti u različitim ekstremnim okruženjima za razliku od ostalih živih bića.
Upravo zbog toga savršeni su za proučavanja o tomu na koji način živa bića reagiraju i kako se prilagođavaju ekstremnim okruženjima. Cilj je iskoristiti dobivene informacije da bi se bolje razumjeli faktori koji utječu na zdravlje astronauta tijekom dugih svemirskih misija.
"Jedan od naših ciljeva je shvatiti na koji način vodeni medvjedići preživljavaju i reproduciraju se u takvom okruženju te pokušati ustanoviti možemo li nešto naučiti o 'trikovima' kojima se pritom koriste da bismo ih kasnije iskoristili u zaštiti astronauta", rekao je Thomas Boothby, voditelj eksperimenta.
Još jedan od ciljeva misije je ustanoviti mogu li se robotske ruke koristiti na daljinu upotrebom tehnologije virtualne stvarnosti.
