Redatelj Branko Schmidt u svojoj je bogatoj karijeri radio s nekim od najvećih imena hrvatskoga glumišta i filma. Oduvijek je gajio veliko poštovanje prema starijima i volio je učiti od iskusnijih od sebe što smatra da mlađoj generaciji kronično nedostaje. Malo se danas govori o umjetnicima koji su obilježili hrvatsku kulturu, pa i njega mladi znaju samo po radovima od zadnjih desetak godina.
Kada je upisao fakultet preselio se iz Osijeka u Zagreb. U metropoli je upoznao svoju djevojku, današnju suprugu, ali za Mirovina.hr je otkrio kako su najveći utjecaj na njega imali profesori na Akademiji na kojoj je upisao režiju - Dušan Vukotić, Ante Babaja, Krešo Golik, Nikola i Radojka Tanhofer, Ranko Marinković, Jakov Bratanić…
“Tad su bili u godinama u kojima sam ja danas. Bitno su mi odredili život. Većina me jako voljela, imao sam dobar odnos sa svima, a najbolji sa Zvonimirom Berkovićem i Krešom Golikom,” kaže i dodaje da je upravo Golik doveo na televiziju i da mu bude asistent što je bio njegov prvi posao. Tamo je upoznao Fabijana Šovagovića, glumačku legendu, s kojim je postao prijatelj i s kojim je napisao scenariji za svoj debitantski film - 'Sokol ga nije volio';
“Ljudi su Šovu doživljavali kao narodnjačkog lika, seosko dijete. Bio je i to, ali prvenstveno je bio vrhunski intelektualac. Bio je načitan, ne bi on “Sokola” napisao da nije poznavao klasike, rusku literaturu, da nije pročitao cijelog Shakespearea, da nije puno radio na sebi,” kaže redatelj i dodaje da su ljudi prije puno više ulagali u obrazovanje i zato su bili bolji u svome poslu. Zgrožen je kada vidi da se nove generacije koje upisuju Akademiju ne znaju autore i djela od prije 90-ih, pa ni njegov rad iz toga perioda ne poznaju.
“Razgovarao sam s kolegom s Akademije i rekao mi je da je od 50 kandidata samo jedan znao tko je bio Fabijan Šovagović. Klince se fila sa svim drugim stvarima osim s kulturom. Naš odnos, kao naroda, prema našim velikanima je zastrašujuće poražavajući. Sram me je kad vidim kamo ide školstvo, kultura, a trebalo bi biti vrh piramide svake države,” razočarano primjećuje. Nije samo odnos prema kulturi u Hrvatskoj loš, čitav odnos prem starijim ljudima je takav što najbolje pokazuju mirovine koje nisu dostatne za dostojanstven život.
On je zaposlen na televiziji i ne brine ga život nakon 65 jer nastavlja raditi i filmove, u tom smislu za njega umirovljenja nema. “Uspio sam nešto zaraditi jer sam imao plaću i uz to snimao filmove. Brešan, Ogresta, ja… svi smo zaposleni ili na Akademiji ili na Televiziji. Inače ne bi išlo. Ne znam nikog tko je duže na filmu, a da ne radi dva posla. Drugačije se u Hrvatskoj ne može preživjeti. Film se radi svake četiri godine, a kad podijeliš zaradu na 48 mjeseci, ne dobiješ ni prosječnu plaću.”

Malo se danas govori o umjetnicima koji su obilježili hrvatsku kulturu, pa i njega mladi znaju samo po radovima od zadnjih desetak godina.
Kada je upisao fakultet preselio se iz Osijeka u Zagreb. U metropoli je upoznao svoju djevojku, današnju suprugu, ali za Mirovina.hr je otkrio kako su najveći utjecaj na njega imali profesori na Akademiji na kojoj je upisao režiju - Dušan Vukotić, Ante Babaja, Krešo Golik, Nikola i Radojka Tanhofer, Ranko Marinković, Jakov Bratanić…
“Tad su bili u godinama u kojima sam ja danas. Bitno su mi odredili život. Većina me jako voljela, imao sam dobar odnos sa svima, a najbolji sa Zvonimirom Berkovićem i Krešom Golikom,” kaže i dodaje da je upravo Golik doveo na televiziju i da mu bude asistent što je bio njegov prvi posao. Tamo je upoznao Fabijana Šovagovića, glumačku legendu, s kojim je postao prijatelj i s kojim je napisao scenariji za svoj debitantski film - 'Sokol ga nije volio';
“Ljudi su Šovu doživljavali kao narodnjačkog lika, seosko dijete. Bio je i to, ali prvenstveno je bio vrhunski intelektualac. Bio je načitan, ne bi on “Sokola” napisao da nije poznavao klasike, rusku literaturu, da nije pročitao cijelog Shakespearea, da nije puno radio na sebi,” kaže redatelj i dodaje da su ljudi prije puno više ulagali u obrazovanje i zato su bili bolji u svome poslu. Zgrožen je kada vidi da se nove generacije koje upisuju Akademiju ne znaju autore i djela od prije 90-ih, pa ni njegov rad iz toga perioda ne poznaju.
“Razgovarao sam s kolegom s Akademije i rekao mi je da je od 50 kandidata samo jedan znao tko je bio Fabijan Šovagović. Klince se fila sa svim drugim stvarima osim s kulturom. Naš odnos, kao naroda, prema našim velikanima je zastrašujuće poražavajući. Sram me je kad vidim kamo ide školstvo, kultura, a trebalo bi biti vrh piramide svake države,” razočarano primjećuje. Nije samo odnos prema kulturi u Hrvatskoj loš, čitav odnos prem starijim ljudima je takav što najbolje pokazuju mirovine koje nisu dostatne za dostojanstven život.
On je zaposlen na televiziji i ne brine ga život nakon 65 jer nastavlja raditi i filmove, u tom smislu za njega umirovljenja nema. “Uspio sam nešto zaraditi jer sam imao plaću i uz to snimao filmove. Brešan, Ogresta, ja… svi smo zaposleni ili na Akademiji ili na Televiziji. Inače ne bi išlo. Ne znam nikog tko je duže na filmu, a da ne radi dva posla. Drugačije se u Hrvatskoj ne može preživjeti. Film se radi svake četiri godine, a kad podijeliš zaradu na 48 mjeseci, ne dobiješ ni prosječnu plaću.”
