Zdravstveni dužnosnici u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu savjetuju roditeljima da budu na oprezu zbog infekcije streptokokom A, nakon što je šestero djece umrlo.
Restrikcije uvedene zbog pandemije koronavirusa, kao što su obvezne maske i distanca, više nisu na snazi u toj zemlji, što znači da se zaraze kao što je streptokok A lakše šire, a broj slučajeva narastao je u prošlih mjesec dana, piše CNN.
Poznat kao i streptokok skupine A, streptokok A može izazvati čitav niz simptoma, od onih lakših pa sve do vrlo ozbiljnih, no nije smrtonosan za većinu ljudi koji se zaraze.
U grlu i na koži
Strep A je bakterija koja se nalazi u grlu i na koži. Najčešće izaziva povišenu temperaturu i infekcije grla, a mnogi ljudi ga nose bez ikakvih simtpoma. Ipak, može se širiti na druge kašljem, kihanjem i bliskim kontaktom.
Simptomi zaraze uključuju bol pri gutanju, povišenu temperaturu, osip na koži i otečene krajnike i žlijezde. Zaraza je uobičajena u prostorima s mnogo ljudi kao što su škole i vrtići, objašnjava američki Centar za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti (CDC) na svojoj web stranici.
“Zaraza je obično poprilično bezopasna,” kaže Beate Kampmann, profesorica pedijatrijske zaraze i imuniteta.
“No, u vrlo rijetkim slučajevima kada bakterija proizvodi toksin, ona može doći do krvotoka i izazvati vrlo ozbiljna stanja” kao što su sepsa, upala srca ili toksični šok sa zatajenjem organa, upozorava ona.
Kampmann savjetuje roditeljima da bez odlaganja potraže medicinsku pomoć ako njihovo dijete izgleda “vrlo bolesno” i ima simptome kao što su povišena temperatura, povraćanje, bolovi u mišićima ili osip.
Da bi se zaraza ovom bakterijom potvrdila, bolničari koriste ili brzi antigenski test ili bris grla, kaže CDC.
Povećan broj slučajeva
Invazivni streptokok A je izraz koji se koristi za slučajeve u kojima bakterija napadne tijelo i uđe u krvotok. Tada bolest postaje ozbiljna, objašnjava britanska Agencija za sigurnost zdravlja (UKHSA).
Ne postoji cjepivo za sprječavanje tih zaraza, no antibioticima se liječe uspješno.
“Ove godine vidimo povećan broj slučajeva streptokoka A no inače,” izjavio je u petak Colin Brown, zamjenik direktora agencije.
Povećanje broja zaraženih pogotovo je vidljivo u djeci mlađoj od 10 godina, dodaje UKHSA. Petero djece u Engleskoj je od bolesti umrlo, a jedna smrt je zabilježena u Walesu.
Podaci iz UKHSA pokazuju da je između sredine rujna i sredine studenog zabilježeno 2.3 slučajeva na 100.000 djece u dobi između 1 i 4 godine, što je porast u odnosu na prosjek od 0.5 slučajeva na 100.000 djece u godinama prije pandemije (2017.-2019.).
Kod djece u dobi između 5 i 9 godina, zabilježeno je 1.1 slučajeva na 100.000, u usporedbi s prosjekom od 0.3 u godinama prije pandemije.

Restrikcije uvedene zbog pandemije koronavirusa, kao što su obvezne maske i distanca, više nisu na snazi u toj zemlji, što znači da se zaraze kao što je streptokok A lakše šire, a broj slučajeva narastao je u prošlih mjesec dana, piše CNN.
Poznat kao i streptokok skupine A, streptokok A može izazvati čitav niz simptoma, od onih lakših pa sve do vrlo ozbiljnih, no nije smrtonosan za većinu ljudi koji se zaraze.
U grlu i na koži
Strep A je bakterija koja se nalazi u grlu i na koži. Najčešće izaziva povišenu temperaturu i infekcije grla, a mnogi ljudi ga nose bez ikakvih simtpoma. Ipak, može se širiti na druge kašljem, kihanjem i bliskim kontaktom.
Simptomi zaraze uključuju bol pri gutanju, povišenu temperaturu, osip na koži i otečene krajnike i žlijezde. Zaraza je uobičajena u prostorima s mnogo ljudi kao što su škole i vrtići, objašnjava američki Centar za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti (CDC) na svojoj web stranici.
“Zaraza je obično poprilično bezopasna,” kaže Beate Kampmann, profesorica pedijatrijske zaraze i imuniteta.
“No, u vrlo rijetkim slučajevima kada bakterija proizvodi toksin, ona može doći do krvotoka i izazvati vrlo ozbiljna stanja” kao što su sepsa, upala srca ili toksični šok sa zatajenjem organa, upozorava ona.
Kampmann savjetuje roditeljima da bez odlaganja potraže medicinsku pomoć ako njihovo dijete izgleda “vrlo bolesno” i ima simptome kao što su povišena temperatura, povraćanje, bolovi u mišićima ili osip.
Da bi se zaraza ovom bakterijom potvrdila, bolničari koriste ili brzi antigenski test ili bris grla, kaže CDC.
Povećan broj slučajeva
Invazivni streptokok A je izraz koji se koristi za slučajeve u kojima bakterija napadne tijelo i uđe u krvotok. Tada bolest postaje ozbiljna, objašnjava britanska Agencija za sigurnost zdravlja (UKHSA).
Ne postoji cjepivo za sprječavanje tih zaraza, no antibioticima se liječe uspješno.
“Ove godine vidimo povećan broj slučajeva streptokoka A no inače,” izjavio je u petak Colin Brown, zamjenik direktora agencije.
Povećanje broja zaraženih pogotovo je vidljivo u djeci mlađoj od 10 godina, dodaje UKHSA. Petero djece u Engleskoj je od bolesti umrlo, a jedna smrt je zabilježena u Walesu.
Podaci iz UKHSA pokazuju da je između sredine rujna i sredine studenog zabilježeno 2.3 slučajeva na 100.000 djece u dobi između 1 i 4 godine, što je porast u odnosu na prosjek od 0.5 slučajeva na 100.000 djece u godinama prije pandemije (2017.-2019.).
Kod djece u dobi između 5 i 9 godina, zabilježeno je 1.1 slučajeva na 100.000, u usporedbi s prosjekom od 0.3 u godinama prije pandemije.
Posljednji period velikog broja infekcija bio je između 2017. i 2018., kada je u istom vremenskom intervalu umrlo četvero djece mlađe od 10 godina.
Iz agencije je rečeno da ne vjeruju da je riječ o novoj varijanti, dodajući da je porast u broju zaraženih vjerojatno rezultat “bakterije koja kruži i društvenim okupljanjima.”
