Europska unija zabranila je titanijev dioksid u hrani. Ova supstanca koja daje bjelinu možda je opasna po zdravlje, prenosi National Geographic.

Titanijev dioksid zavodi potrošače: prehrambeni proizvodi poput deserta, mozzarelle, juhe iz kesice, peciva ili preljeva za salate izgledaju svježije i privlačnije ako u sebi imaju dodatak E171.

Sposobnost ove materije da reflektira svjetlost i boji u bijelo dovela je do njezine široke primjene, i to ne samo u prehrambenoj industriji, već i u proizvodnji kozmetičkih preparata, kao što su paste za zube s oznakom CI77891, pomade, kreme za sunčanje. U ljepilima, gumama, lakovima pa čak i u betonu također se često nalazi titanijev dioksid.

Proizvodnja titanijeva dioksida spada u poslove s ogromnim obrtom. U svijetu se godišnje proizvede između četiri i pet milijuna tona ove tvari, od toga više od milijun tona u Europi.

Zabrana je uslijedila tek nakon dugogodišnjih preispitivanja.

Prehrambena industrija na tržištu Europske unije ubuduće će se morati odreći upotrebe titanijeva dioksida. Europska komisija je poslije višegodišnjih pregovora sredinom siječnja zabranila njegovu primjenu kao prehrambenog aditiva, a zabrana stupa na snagu kroz pola godine.

- S današnjom zabranom, uklanjamo aditiv koji se više ne smatra sigurnim - rekla je povjerenica Stella Kyriakides.

Francuska je taj korak poduzela već 2020. godine. Zatim su mnoge tvrtke iz prehrambene branše preventivno prestale koristiti ovaj aditiv.

U proljeće 2021. godine Europska komisija na osnovi prerađenog prijedloga Europske agencije za sigurnost hrane (EFSA) već je predložila zabranu. Agencija nije mogla pronaći direktne dokaze za toksično djelovanje, ali nije mogla ni isključiti negativni utjecaj na ljudski organizam, kao i kancerogenost supstance. Agencija je zato preporučila da se aditiv izbaci.

Koliko je opasan E171

Već godinama se sumnja da titanijev dioksid može izazvati rak. Francuski znanstvenici su 2017. dokazali da kod štakora redovito oralno uzimanje aditiva E171 dovodi do slabljenja imunološkog sustava i upale crijeva. Dokazano je da supstanca probija membranu crijeva i u obliku nanočestica dospijeva u krv.

Još nije jasno može li titanijev dioksid savladati i krvno-moždanu barijeru, koja štiti mozak od štetnih materija.

Uslijedila su brojna istraživanja koja su proveli stručnjaci francuske Agencije za sigurnost hrane, zaštitu okoliša i zaštitu na radu. Ta istraživanja nisu otklonila sumnje.

Odlučujuće su bile indicije da bi titanijev dioksid mogao utjecati na ljudski genom. Nakon temeljne provjere, EFSA nije mogla isključiti mogućnost toksičnog djelovanja na gene. Njemački Savezni institut za savladavanje rizika (BfR) ima isto mišljenje. Ali i ukazuje na to da bi se za konačan sud morale otkloniti znanstvene nejasnoće.

Udruga europskih proizvođača titanijeva dioksida (TDMA) ima, očekivano, suprotan stav, tvrdeći da mišljenje Europske agencije o aditivu E171 u osnovi ima pogrešne pretpostavke, te da materijali za testiranje nisu bili reprezentativni.

Opasnost od udisanja

Zabrana u EU se odnosi isključivo na aditiv u prehrambenim proizvodima. U drugim se kontekstima titanijev dioksid može i dalje koristiti. Ali, moguće da ova supstanca nije štetna samo u hrani.

Odbor za procjenu rizika Europske kemijske agencije je titanijev dioksid 2017. godine deklarirao kao "vjerojatno kancerogen pri udisanju". A u zrak, a time i u pluća, supstanca može dospjeti, kad se sprejem raspršuju lakovi koji je sadrže ili prskanjem zaštitne kreme na kožu. A i kad se trljanjem skida supstanca koja sadrži titanijev dioksid.

Kemijska industrija se pribojava da bi zabrana mogla biti prenesena i na ostale proizvode. Da bi to spriječila, kemijska industrija će pokušati diskreditirati rezultate znanstvene provjere štetnosti. Zabranom aditiva E171 u prehrambenim proizvodima ni izdaleka nije završena debata kemijske industrije i zdravstvenih vlasti, piše National Geographic.

Europska unija zabranila je titanijev dioksid u hrani. Ova supstanca koja daje bjelinu možda je opasna po zdravlje, prenosi National Geographic.

Titanijev dioksid zavodi potrošače: prehrambeni proizvodi poput deserta, mozzarelle, juhe iz kesice, peciva ili preljeva za salate izgledaju svježije i privlačnije ako u sebi imaju dodatak E171.

Sposobnost ove materije da reflektira svjetlost i boji u bijelo dovela je do njezine široke primjene, i to ne samo u prehrambenoj industriji, već i u proizvodnji kozmetičkih preparata, kao što su paste za zube s oznakom CI77891, pomade, kreme za sunčanje. U ljepilima, gumama, lakovima pa čak i u betonu također se često nalazi titanijev dioksid.

Proizvodnja titanijeva dioksida spada u poslove s ogromnim obrtom. U svijetu se godišnje proizvede između četiri i pet milijuna tona ove tvari, od toga više od milijun tona u Europi.

Zabrana je uslijedila tek nakon dugogodišnjih preispitivanja.

Prehrambena industrija na tržištu Europske unije ubuduće će se morati odreći upotrebe titanijeva dioksida. Europska komisija je poslije višegodišnjih pregovora sredinom siječnja zabranila njegovu primjenu kao prehrambenog aditiva, a zabrana stupa na snagu kroz pola godine.

- S današnjom zabranom, uklanjamo aditiv koji se više ne smatra sigurnim - rekla je povjerenica Stella Kyriakides.

Francuska je taj korak poduzela već 2020. godine. Zatim su mnoge tvrtke iz prehrambene branše preventivno prestale koristiti ovaj aditiv.

U proljeće 2021. godine Europska komisija na osnovi prerađenog prijedloga Europske agencije za sigurnost hrane (EFSA) već je predložila zabranu. Agencija nije mogla pronaći direktne dokaze za toksično djelovanje, ali nije mogla ni isključiti negativni utjecaj na ljudski organizam, kao i kancerogenost supstance. Agencija je zato preporučila da se aditiv izbaci.

Koliko je opasan E171

Već godinama se sumnja da titanijev dioksid može izazvati rak. Francuski znanstvenici su 2017. dokazali da kod štakora redovito oralno uzimanje aditiva E171 dovodi do slabljenja imunološkog sustava i upale crijeva. Dokazano je da supstanca probija membranu crijeva i u obliku nanočestica dospijeva u krv.

Još nije jasno može li titanijev dioksid savladati i krvno-moždanu barijeru, koja štiti mozak od štetnih materija.

Uslijedila su brojna istraživanja koja su proveli stručnjaci francuske Agencije za sigurnost hrane, zaštitu okoliša i zaštitu na radu. Ta istraživanja nisu otklonila sumnje.

Odlučujuće su bile indicije da bi titanijev dioksid mogao utjecati na ljudski genom. Nakon temeljne provjere, EFSA nije mogla isključiti mogućnost toksičnog djelovanja na gene. Njemački Savezni institut za savladavanje rizika (BfR) ima isto mišljenje. Ali i ukazuje na to da bi se za konačan sud morale otkloniti znanstvene nejasnoće.

Udruga europskih proizvođača titanijeva dioksida (TDMA) ima, očekivano, suprotan stav, tvrdeći da mišljenje Europske agencije o aditivu E171 u osnovi ima pogrešne pretpostavke, te da materijali za testiranje nisu bili reprezentativni.

Opasnost od udisanja

Zabrana u EU se odnosi isključivo na aditiv u prehrambenim proizvodima. U drugim se kontekstima titanijev dioksid može i dalje koristiti. Ali, moguće da ova supstanca nije štetna samo u hrani.

Odbor za procjenu rizika Europske kemijske agencije je titanijev dioksid 2017. godine deklarirao kao "vjerojatno kancerogen pri udisanju". A u zrak, a time i u pluća, supstanca može dospjeti, kad se sprejem raspršuju lakovi koji je sadrže ili prskanjem zaštitne kreme na kožu. A i kad se trljanjem skida supstanca koja sadrži titanijev dioksid.

Kemijska industrija se pribojava da bi zabrana mogla biti prenesena i na ostale proizvode. Da bi to spriječila, kemijska industrija će pokušati diskreditirati rezultate znanstvene provjere štetnosti. Zabranom aditiva E171 u prehrambenim proizvodima ni izdaleka nije završena debata kemijske industrije i zdravstvenih vlasti, piše National Geographic.

Europska unija zabranila je titanijev dioksid u hrani. Ova supstanca koja daje bjelinu možda je opasna po zdravlje, prenosi National Geographic.

Titanijev dioksid zavodi potrošače: prehrambeni proizvodi poput deserta, mozzarelle, juhe iz kesice, peciva ili preljeva za salate izgledaju svježije i privlačnije ako u sebi imaju dodatak E171.

Sposobnost ove materije da reflektira svjetlost i boji u bijelo dovela je do njezine široke primjene, i to ne samo u prehrambenoj industriji, već i u proizvodnji kozmetičkih preparata, kao što su paste za zube s oznakom CI77891, pomade, kreme za sunčanje. U ljepilima, gumama, lakovima pa čak i u betonu također se često nalazi titanijev dioksid.
