Na nekih sat vremena vožnje vlakom od Londona, u selu koje se može opisati jedino kao ubavo, jedna će kuća uskoro promijeniti vlasnike po cijeni koje se ne bi posramila ni rezidencija u središtu metropole. U selu Cholsey, u okrugu Oxfordshire, naime, gdje živi tek tri i pol tisuće ljudi, prodaje se Winterbrook House i okućnica od pet hektara po cijeni od 2,75 milijuna funti. Osim što je imanje izvrsno održavano, što ima pet spavaćih soba, tri dnevne sobe, veliku kuhinju, kamine – od kojih je jedan i u kupaonici – cijenu definira ime nekadašnjih stanara. Agatha Christie (1890. – 1976.), kraljica krimića, tu je živjela 40 godina, sve do svoje smrti. Tamo je i sahranjena na groblju Svete Marije sa svojim drugim mužem, arheologom Maxom Mallowanom (1904 –1978), a tamo su, u najboljoj tradiciji engleske više srednje klase u obilježenoj grobnici sa spomenikom pokopani i njezini psi, Treacle i Bingo.

U Winterbrooku su zadnjih dvadeset godina živjeli Gregor Kleinknecht, odvjetnik i njegova supruga Karen Holterman, te njihova dva sina, sada u dobi od 15 i 13 godina, koji sada traže neki manji dom. „U biblioteci postoji Agathina fotografija i možete prepoznati toliko preostalih tragova njezinog boravka ovdje“, kaže Kleinknecht. „Vlada prava atmosfera. To je vrlo poseban osjećaj. “
Winterbrook House je prekrasna kuća s fasadom u stilu kraljice Anne, s oblogama od sive i crvene opeke. Smatra se da je sagrađena još u 18. stoljeću, a Agatha i Max su je za vrlo male novce kupili 1934. 'Praktično mukte', kazala je svojedobno Agatha Christie.

Vrtovi i okolni tereni su prostrani i spuštaju se do rijeke Temze. Južnoj terasi pristupa se iz blagovaonice, salona i trpezarije, pružajući savršeno mjesto za ručak ili večeru na otvorenom i uživanje u pogledu na travnjake, sve do rijeke. Budući da je Winterbrook House u drugoj kategoriji zaštite koja, prema britanskim zakonima, podrazumijeva da je 'od posebnog interesa i da opravdava svaki napor da se sačuva', cijenu od 2,75 milijuna funti procjenitelji nekretnina ne smatraju velikom. Uostalom, uz kuću i okućnicu dobiva se dio povijesti na koju su Englezi s pravom ponosni. Agatha Christie je upravo u toj kući napisala neka od svojih kultnih djela, a osnovano se sumnja, da se izrazimo policijskim rječnikom, da je upravo Winterbrook poslužio slavnoj književnici za kreaciju izmišljenog sela St. Mary Mead i rezidenciju Danemead u koju je smjestila Miss Jane Marple. Miss Marple je junakinja iz niza romana po kojima je napravljeno bezbroj filmskih i televizijskih serijala, a jedan od njih, u kojem glavnu ulogu bistre usidjelice, dobroćudne i nemilosrdne u isti čas, glumi Joan Hickson, možemo upravo gledati na RTL Crimeu.

Agatha Christie je Winterbrook House, gde je napisala romane 'Smrt na Nilu', 'Leš u biblioteci',, 'U 4.50 sa stanice Paddington' i mnoge druge, prvi put vidjela u oglasu u The Timesu 1934. godine. 'Bilo je to otprilike tjedan dana prije negoli smo te jeseni trebali krenuti u Siriju', napisala je u svojoj autobiografiji. 'Pozvali smo agenta i odmah otišli u Oxfordshire.'
Pristigavši na imanje, Agatha Christie i Max Mallovan, otkrili su prostranu kuću u tipičnom engleskom stilu i travnjakom koji se prostirao do rijeke.
- Nismo imali puno vremena za kolebanje. Kuća je bila izuzetno jeftina, prodavala se takoreći besplatno, i odmah smo se odlučili. Pozvali smo agenta, potpisali papire, razgovarali sa odvjetnicima i geodetama i kupili kuću. 'Mislim', rekao je Max tada, 'tu ćemo biti sretni.' Najstariji mještani Cholseyija sjećaju se ‘gospođe Mallovan’ koja je samu sebe nazivala ‘domaćicom’ premda su njezini susjedi i tada znali da domaćica ne putuje skoro svake godine na Bliski Istok i da u salonu svoje kuće, zajedno s mužem, ne odmotava neobične suvenire donesene iz Mezopotamije.
Najslavniji televizijski Hercule Poirot, glumac David Suchet, prije nekoliko dana je, slaveći svoj 75. rođendan kazao kako je, nastojeći ući 'u dušu' lika kojeg je glumio svojedobno posjetio i Winterbrook House. 'Pogledajte me', kazao je.'Tamnokos sam, maslinaste puti, nizak sam, nikad nisam imao besprijekornu figuru. Morao sam dati sve od sebe da, ako već nisam prototip engleskog gospodina, postanem prototip Poirota kakvog bi odobrila i dama Agatha Christie.'
I zbilja, budući da su se donedavni vlasnici Winterbrooka svojski potrudili zadržati duh Agathe Christie na imanju – čak je i cvijeće pretežito ljubičasto, kakvo je voljela i slavna književnica – za ‘samo 2,75 milijuna funti novi kupac će dobiti jedinstveni komadić engleske povijesti.

Na nekih sat vremena vožnje vlakom od Londona, u selu koje se može opisati jedino kao ubavo, jedna će kuća uskoro promijeniti vlasnike po cijeni koje se ne bi posramila ni rezidencija u središtu metropole. U selu Cholsey, u okrugu Oxfordshire, naime, gdje živi tek tri i pol tisuće ljudi, prodaje se Winterbrook House i okućnica od pet hektara po cijeni od 2,75 milijuna funti. Osim što je imanje izvrsno održavano, što ima pet spavaćih soba, tri dnevne sobe, veliku kuhinju, kamine – od kojih je jedan i u kupaonici – cijenu definira ime nekadašnjih stanara. Agatha Christie (1890. – 1976.), kraljica krimića, tu je živjela 40 godina, sve do svoje smrti. Tamo je i sahranjena na groblju Svete Marije sa svojim drugim mužem, arheologom Maxom Mallowanom (1904 –1978), a tamo su, u najboljoj tradiciji engleske više srednje klase u obilježenoj grobnici sa spomenikom pokopani i njezini psi, Treacle i Bingo.

U Winterbrooku su zadnjih dvadeset godina živjeli Gregor Kleinknecht, odvjetnik i njegova supruga Karen Holterman, te njihova dva sina, sada u dobi od 15 i 13 godina, koji sada traže neki manji dom. „U biblioteci postoji Agathina fotografija i možete prepoznati toliko preostalih tragova njezinog boravka ovdje“, kaže Kleinknecht. „Vlada prava atmosfera. To je vrlo poseban osjećaj. “
Winterbrook House je prekrasna kuća s fasadom u stilu kraljice Anne, s oblogama od sive i crvene opeke. Smatra se da je sagrađena još u 18. stoljeću, a Agatha i Max su je za vrlo male novce kupili 1934. 'Praktično mukte', kazala je svojedobno Agatha Christie.

Južnoj terasi pristupa se iz blagovaonice, salona i trpezarije, pružajući savršeno mjesto za ručak ili večeru na otvorenom i uživanje u pogledu na travnjake, sve do rijeke. Vrtovi su bogati drvećem, uključujući hrast, bijeli bor, lipu, lombardijska stabla, topole i druge vrste, kaže agent.

Budući da je Winterbrook House u drugoj kategoriji zaštite koja, prema britanskim zakonima, podrazumijeva da je 'od posebnog interesa i da opravdava svaki napor da se sačuva', cijenu od 2,75 milijuna funti procjenitelji nekretnina ne smatraju velikom. Uostalom, uz kuću i okućnicu dobiva se dio povijesti na koju su Englezi s pravom ponosni. Agatha Christie je upravo u toj kući napisala neka od svojih kultnih djela, a osnovano se sumnja, da se izrazimo policijskim rječnikom, da je upravo Winterbrook poslužio slavnoj književnici za kreaciju izmišljenog sela St. Mary Mead i rezidenciju Danemead u koju je smjestila Miss Jane Marple. Miss Marple je junakinja iz niza romana po kojima je napravljeno bezbroj filmskih i televizijskih serijala, a jedan od njih, u kojem glavnu ulogu bistre usidjelice, dobroćudne i nemilosrdne u isti čas, glumi Joan Hickson, možemo upravo gledati na RTL Crimeu.

Agatha Christie je Winterbrook House, gde je napisala romane 'Smrt na Nilu', 'Leš u biblioteci',, 'U 4.50 sa stanice Paddington' i mnoge druge, prvi put vidjela u oglasu u The Timesu 1934. godine. 'Bilo je to otprilike tjedan dana prije negoli smo te jeseni trebali krenuti u Siriju', napisala je u svojoj autobiografiji. 'Pozvali smo agenta i odmah otišli u Oxfordshire.'
Pristigavši na imanje, Agatha Christie i Max Mallovan, otkrili su prostranu kuću u tipičnom engleskom stilu i travnjakom koji se prostirao do rijeke.
- Nismo imali puno vremena za kolebanje. Kuća je bila izuzetno jeftina, prodavala se takoreći besplatno, i odmah smo se odlučili. Pozvali smo agenta, potpisali papire, razgovarali sa odvjetnicima i geodetama i kupili kuću. 'Mislim', rekao je Max tada, 'tu ćemo biti sretni.' Najstariji mještani Cholseyija sjećaju se ‘gospođe Mallovan’ koja je samu sebe nazivala ‘domaćicom’ premda su njezini susjedi i tada znali da domaćica ne putuje skoro svake godine na Bliski Istok i da u salonu svoje kuće, zajedno s mužem, ne odmotava neobične suvenire donesene iz Mezopotamije.
Najslavniji televizijski Hercule Poirot, glumac David Suchet, prije nekoliko dana je, slaveći svoj 75. rođendan kazao kako je, nastojeći ući 'u dušu' lika kojeg je glumio svojedobno posjetio i Winterbrook House. 'Pogledajte me', kazao je.'Tamnokos sam, maslinaste puti, nizak sam, nikad nisam imao besprijekornu figuru. Morao sam dati sve od sebe da, ako već nisam prototip engleskog gospodina, postanem prototip Poirota kakvog bi odobrila i dama Agatha Christie.'
I zbilja, budući da su se donedavni vlasnici Winterbrooka svojski potrudili zadržati duh Agathe Christie na imanju – čak je i cvijeće pretežito ljubičasto, kakvo je voljela i slavna književnica – za ‘samo 2,75 milijuna funti novi kupac će dobiti jedinstveni komadić engleske povijesti.
