Neće svatko izdvojiti "Tanku liniju smrti" ("Flatliners", 1990.) kao jedno od najboljih ili najznačajnijih ostvarenja režisera Joela Schumachera
Za početak, Schumacher je snimio "Flatliners" nakon "Vatre svetog Elma" i "Izgubljenih dječaka " kao treći dio neslužbene trilogije o mladosti i mladima, da bi 1991. nadopisao "post scriptum" s dramom "Umrijeti mlad". Likovi mladenačkog filma "St. Elmo's Fire" i tinejdžerskog horora "The Lost Boys" suočavali su se s prelaskom u svijet odraslih, tj. (vampirskim) životom poslije (ljudskog) života, dok je "Dying Young" govorio o medicinskoj sestri zaljubljenoj u terminalno bolesnog mladog čovjeka.

Zanimljivo je kako su dva od ova tri filma povezana istim mladim glumcima u usponu koje je otkrio nitko drugi doli Schumacher. Kiefer Sutherland , a "zgodna žena " Julia Roberts glumi u "Flatliners" i "Umijeti mlad".
No, frapantna je tematska ili karakterna povezanost ovih filmova, kao i to da je "Tanka linija smrti" puštena u kina u istoj godini kao i na granici života i smrti razmjerno slično postavljeni "Duh " i "Jacobova ljestvica košmara", nalazeći se negdje na pola puta između njih.
Podsjetimo, "Flatliners" predstavlja likove, studente medicine, koji eksperimentiraju na sebi i istražuju ima li života nakon kliničke smrti u onom bijelom svjetlu na kraju crnog tunela na "drugoj stani", kad se oči zamrače i vitalni organi ugase, inicirajući vlastita "after-life" i "near-death" iskustva.
Uz Sutherlanda i Roberts u ulogama Nelsona Wrighta i Rachel Mannus, gledamo Kevina Bacona ("Podrhtavanje ") kao Davida Labraccija, Williama Baldwina ("Vatrene kacige ") kao Joea Hurleyja i Olivera Platta ("Zaposlena djevojka") kao Randyja Stecklea.
Studenti su inspirirani pričama ljudi koji su bili u komi, umrli i vratili se među žive, odnosno svemu što su doživjeli između života i smrti (tunel, bijelo svjetlo, izvantjelesno iskustvo lebdenja iznad vlastitih tijela...). Ne žele oni otići trajno na "onaj svijet", iako Nelson u prvoj sceni, gledajući u zalaza sunca, kaže "Danas je dobar dan za umrijeti".
Znači, njihov cilj nije umrijeti (mlad), već okusiti osjećaj umiranja, da vide ima li išta "out there beyond death" i, pomoću medicinske aparature, vrate se nazad iz mrtvih "s odgovorima o životu i smrti" jer "čovječanstvo zaslužuje znati". Nelson provokativnu ideju pravda riječima da su filozofija i religija zakazale po tom pitanju i sad je vrijeme za "prirodnu znanost".

"Bit će dramatično", najavljuje on, nakon čega će se oni natjecati tko će duže izdržati biti klinički mrtav. Ideja da se studenti medicine drznu iskusiti smrt i odu do vječnosti i natrag, riskirajući isključenje s fakulteta i umiranje, doista je moralno provokativna iz pera scenarista Petera Filardija ("Opasne čini "), a film se danas gleda nešto drukčijim očima i rubno je morbidan, nakon što je Schumacher umro i liječnici ga nisu vratili među žive.
Naime, prema viziji "Tanke linije smrti" prostor u životu nakon života nije rajski, suprotno uopćenim pričama ljudi koji su umrli i uspjeli se vratiti natrag, vidjevši/doživjevši iste prizore. "Nešto je tamo i utješno je"? Samo naizgled. "Kao da te netko promatra", kaže jedan od likova kad se "vrati".
Jer, svakog od njih netko ne samo da promatra u tom međuprostoru, već i proganja, kako tu, tako i u svijetu živih, u formi opipljivih priviđanja i halucinacija, najčešće na temu trauma iz djetinjstva. Konkretno, proganjaju ih ljudi iz prošlosti koje su povrijedili na ovaj ili onaj način.
Primjerice, Nelsonu se pričinja klinac iz djetinjstva čiju je smrt skrivio, Davidu djevojčica kojoj se rugao u školi, dok Rachel vidi oca iako je nesretnik počinio samoubojstvo prije 20 godina, a Joe djevojke koje je snimao tijekom seksa u najbanalnijem segmentu filma, interesantnom tek po tome što funkcionira kao preteča Baldwinove uloge u "Sliveru" i "MeToo" pokreta.
Intrigantni motivi grijeha i okajanja pokreću priču koja s vremenom, nažalost, postaje pomalo repetitivna, sve manje napeta i završava prilično antikulminativno za jedan načelno žanrovski uradak iz sfere nadnaravnog (horor) trilera. "Flatliners" prestaje biti strašan i tenzičan kako se bliži kraju.
Srećom, Schumacher održava film na životu i ne dopušta da se scenaristička ravna crta precrta u kadar uz pomoć raspoloženih i dobro režiranih glumaca, neovisno o tome što Sutherland na mahove kao da ponavlja ulogu iz "The Lost Boys", bez punkerske frizure i vampirskih očnjaka.

Režijska vizija podebljava (inicijalnu) uzbudljivost "Tanke linije smrti". Oduvijek je Schumacher bio redatelj izraženih vizualnih senzibiliteta, uposlenih u oživljavanju fantastične ili realistične priče, a upravo je "Flatliners" film koji je najavio drugu fazu njegove karijere, od "Dana ludila " do "Batmana & Robina " i "8 milimetara ".
Protagonisti "Tanke linije smrti" su obični ljudi, kao lik Michaela Douglasa u remek-djelu "Falling Down" (producirao ovaj film), koji će doživjeti nadrealnu odiseju izmještenu iz dosadne svakodnevice. Radnja se većinski odvija u mračnim urbanim lokalitetima, među gotičkim zgradama, kipovima i vodorigama, u gradu (Chicago) nalik Gotham Cityju, dakle gdje bi se i jedan Batman osjećao kao kod kuće.
Možete se okladiti da su čelnici Warnera dodijelili Schumacheru režiju "Batmana zauvijek" nakon što su vidjeli ovaj film, specifično izvanredan kadar Nelsona u aleji prošaranoj neonskim grafitima koji načas kao da "ožive" sa zidova, jedan od najboljih u karijeri ovog režisera.
Naravno, nije odmoglo što je Schumacher imao vrhunskog snimatelja u Nizozemcu Janu De Bontu ("Krv i meso ", "Dragulj s Nila ", "Umri muški ", "Crna kiša ", "Lov na Crveni Oktobar ", "Sirove stasti ") čija se fotografija odlično rimuje s glazbom Jamesa Newtona Howarda ("Bjegunac ", "Junior ", "Izvan kontrole ", "Šesto čulo "), stvarajući dojmljiv audiovizualni učinak na gledatelja.
Vizualni izričaj je na trenutke toliko neonsko-spotovski stiliziran da bi mogao načiniti ljubomornim Adriana Lynea ("Flashdance ", "Devet i pol tjedana ") i Tonyja Scotta ("Top Gun ", "Tjelesna straža "). Međutim, Schumacher se izdvajao od spotovske konkurencije tako što je ovdje radio zanimljivu "noirovsku" igru svjetla i sjene (bijela točkica u crnilu tunela) dok se likovi nalaze između života i smrti, samo što neonska plava boja kod njega često zamjenjuje crnu.
Film je vizualno najimpresivniji kad kamera snima Davidov odlazak na "onaj" svijet i prodire u svemir njegova oka odlazeći natrag kroz život mladića sve do trenutka prije rođenja. Schumacher se tu najviše približio svojoj "Odiseji u svemiru ".

‘Izgubljeni dječaci‘ pronađeni u remakeu
Friško je najavljen i remake "Izgubljenih dječaka" u kojem bi trebali glumiti dva sve popularnija mlada glumca Noah Jupe ("Prredgrađe", "Čudo", "Mjesto tišine", "Izazivač", "Honey Boy") i Jaeden Martell ("Sveti Vincent", "Ponoćni specijal", "Ono", "Nož u leđa"). Film je najavljen za premijeru 2022., točno 25 godina nakon što je u kina stigao origijal. P.S. "Tanka linija smrti" se prikazuje u noći s 28. na 29 rujna na TV1000.

Neće svatko izdvojiti "Tanku liniju smrti" ("Flatliners", 1990.) kao jedno od najboljih ili najznačajnijih ostvarenja režisera Joela Schumachera
Za početak, Schumacher je snimio "Flatliners" nakon "Vatre svetog Elma" i "Izgubljenih dječaka " kao treći dio neslužbene trilogije o mladosti i mladima, da bi 1991. nadopisao "post scriptum" s dramom "Umrijeti mlad". Likovi mladenačkog filma "St. Elmo's Fire" i tinejdžerskog horora "The Lost Boys" suočavali su se s prelaskom u svijet odraslih, tj. (vampirskim) životom poslije (ljudskog) života, dok je "Dying Young" govorio o medicinskoj sestri zaljubljenoj u terminalno bolesnog mladog čovjeka.

Zanimljivo je kako su dva od ova tri filma povezana istim mladim glumcima u usponu koje je otkrio nitko drugi doli Schumacher. Kiefer Sutherland , a "zgodna žena " Julia Roberts glumi u "Flatliners" i "Umijeti mlad".
No, frapantna je tematska ili karakterna povezanost ovih filmova, kao i to da je "Tanka linija smrti" puštena u kina u istoj godini kao i na granici života i smrti razmjerno slično postavljeni "Duh " i "Jacobova ljestvica košmara", nalazeći se negdje na pola puta između njih.
Podsjetimo, "Flatliners" predstavlja likove, studente medicine, koji eksperimentiraju na sebi i istražuju ima li života nakon kliničke smrti u onom bijelom svjetlu na kraju crnog tunela na "drugoj stani", kad se oči zamrače i vitalni organi ugase, inicirajući vlastita "after-life" i "near-death" iskustva.
Uz Sutherlanda i Roberts u ulogama Nelsona Wrighta i Rachel Mannus, gledamo Kevina Bacona ("Podrhtavanje ") kao Davida Labraccija, Williama Baldwina ("Vatrene kacige ") kao Joea Hurleyja i Olivera Platta ("Zaposlena djevojka") kao Randyja Stecklea.
Studenti su inspirirani pričama ljudi koji su bili u komi, umrli i vratili se među žive, odnosno svemu što su doživjeli između života i smrti (tunel, bijelo svjetlo, izvantjelesno iskustvo lebdenja iznad vlastitih tijela...). Ne žele oni otići trajno na "onaj svijet", iako Nelson u prvoj sceni, gledajući u zalaza sunca, kaže "Danas je dobar dan za umrijeti".
Znači, njihov cilj nije umrijeti (mlad), već okusiti osjećaj umiranja, da vide ima li išta "out there beyond death" i, pomoću medicinske aparature, vrate se nazad iz mrtvih "s odgovorima o životu i smrti" jer "čovječanstvo zaslužuje znati". Nelson provokativnu ideju pravda riječima da su filozofija i religija zakazale po tom pitanju i sad je vrijeme za "prirodnu znanost".

Ideja da se studenti medicine drznu iskusiti smrt i odu do vječnosti i natrag, riskirajući isključenje s fakulteta i umiranje, doista je moralno provokativna iz pera scenarista Petera Filardija ("Opasne čini "), a film se danas gleda nešto drukčijim očima i rubno je morbidan, nakon što je Schumacher umro i liječnici ga nisu vratili među žive.
Naime, prema viziji "Tanke linije smrti" prostor u životu nakon života nije rajski, suprotno uopćenim pričama ljudi koji su umrli i uspjeli se vratiti natrag, vidjevši/doživjevši iste prizore. "Nešto je tamo i utješno je"? Samo naizgled. "Kao da te netko promatra", kaže jedan od likova kad se "vrati".
Jer, svakog od njih netko ne samo da promatra u tom međuprostoru, već i proganja, kako tu, tako i u svijetu živih, u formi opipljivih priviđanja i halucinacija, najčešće na temu trauma iz djetinjstva. Konkretno, proganjaju ih ljudi iz prošlosti koje su povrijedili na ovaj ili onaj način.
Primjerice, Nelsonu se pričinja klinac iz djetinjstva čiju je smrt skrivio, Davidu djevojčica kojoj se rugao u školi, dok Rachel vidi oca iako je nesretnik počinio samoubojstvo prije 20 godina, a Joe djevojke koje je snimao tijekom seksa u najbanalnijem segmentu filma, interesantnom tek po tome što funkcionira kao preteča Baldwinove uloge u "Sliveru" i "MeToo" pokreta.
Intrigantni motivi grijeha i okajanja pokreću priču koja s vremenom, nažalost, postaje pomalo repetitivna, sve manje napeta i završava prilično antikulminativno za jedan načelno žanrovski uradak iz sfere nadnaravnog (horor) trilera. "Flatliners" prestaje biti strašan i tenzičan kako se bliži kraju.
Srećom, Schumacher održava film na životu i ne dopušta da se scenaristička ravna crta precrta u kadar uz pomoć raspoloženih i dobro režiranih glumaca, neovisno o tome što Sutherland na mahove kao da ponavlja ulogu iz "The Lost Boys", bez punkerske frizure i vampirskih očnjaka.

Režijska vizija podebljava (inicijalnu) uzbudljivost "Tanke linije smrti". Oduvijek je Schumacher bio redatelj izraženih vizualnih senzibiliteta, uposlenih u oživljavanju fantastične ili realistične priče, a upravo je "Flatliners" film koji je najavio drugu fazu njegove karijere, od "Dana ludila " do "Batmana & Robina " i "8 milimetara ".
Protagonisti "Tanke linije smrti" su obični ljudi, kao lik Michaela Douglasa u remek-djelu "Falling Down" (producirao ovaj film), koji će doživjeti nadrealnu odiseju izmještenu iz dosadne svakodnevice. Radnja se većinski odvija u mračnim urbanim lokalitetima, među gotičkim zgradama, kipovima i vodorigama, u gradu (Chicago) nalik Gotham Cityju, dakle gdje bi se i jedan Batman osjećao kao kod kuće.
Možete se okladiti da su čelnici Warnera dodijelili Schumacheru režiju "Batmana zauvijek" nakon što su vidjeli ovaj film, specifično izvanredan kadar Nelsona u aleji prošaranoj neonskim grafitima koji načas kao da "ožive" sa zidova, jedan od najboljih u karijeri ovog režisera.
Naravno, nije odmoglo što je Schumacher imao vrhunskog snimatelja u Nizozemcu Janu De Bontu ("Krv i meso ", "Dragulj s Nila ", "Umri muški ", "Crna kiša ", "Lov na Crveni Oktobar ", "Sirove stasti ") čija se fotografija odlično rimuje s glazbom Jamesa Newtona Howarda ("Bjegunac ", "Junior ", "Izvan kontrole ", "Šesto čulo "), stvarajući dojmljiv audiovizualni učinak na gledatelja.
Vizualni izričaj je na trenutke toliko neonsko-spotovski stiliziran da bi mogao načiniti ljubomornim Adriana Lynea ("Flashdance ", "Devet i pol tjedana ") i Tonyja Scotta ("Top Gun ", "Tjelesna straža "). Međutim, Schumacher se izdvajao od spotovske konkurencije tako što je ovdje radio zanimljivu "noirovsku" igru svjetla i sjene (bijela točkica u crnilu tunela) dok se likovi nalaze između života i smrti, samo što neonska plava boja kod njega često zamjenjuje crnu.
Film je vizualno najimpresivniji kad kamera snima Davidov odlazak na "onaj" svijet i prodire u svemir njegova oka odlazeći natrag kroz život mladića sve do trenutka prije rođenja. Schumacher se tu najviše približio svojoj "Odiseji u svemiru ".

‘Izgubljeni dječaci‘ pronađeni u remakeu
Friško je najavljen i remake "Izgubljenih dječaka" u kojem bi trebali glumiti dva sve popularnija mlada glumca Noah Jupe ("Prredgrađe", "Čudo", "Mjesto tišine", "Izazivač", "Honey Boy") i Jaeden Martell ("Sveti Vincent", "Ponoćni specijal", "Ono", "Nož u leđa"). Film je najavljen za premijeru 2022., točno 25 godina nakon što je u kina stigao origijal. P.S. "Tanka linija smrti" se prikazuje u noći s 28. na 29 rujna na TV1000.
