Mamurluk iz noćne more na Tajlandu? Ne, ne govorimo o komediji "The Hangover Part 2", već o filmu strave i užasa "Death Of Me" koji zamišlja hororski odgovor na središnji dio humoristične trilogije. Osnovna zamisao je dobra, uz određene preinake spram "Mamurluka 2", tipa da se sada u centru priče na egzotičnj lokaciji nalazi jedan običan par, a ne razulareni prijatelji na vjenčanju/momačkoj večeri.

"Što se dogodilo sinoć? Ne mogu se sjetiti kako smo se vratili u sobu", dvoji Christine (Maggie Q; "Nemoguća misija III", "Umri muški 4.0") kad se probudi i pronađe momka Neila (Luke Hemsworth; stariji brat Chrisa i Liama) kao leži na podu AirBnB-a na jednom od tajlandskih otoka.

Dok pokušavaju povratiti sjećanje, Christine i Neil jure na brod za povratak na obalu i zrakoplov za Ameriku. Međutim, negdje su posijali putovnice i moraju se strpjeti do idućeg broda koji plovi predvečer. Dotad, novinar Neil se sjetio da je ovjekovječio prethodnu večer na kameri. Pustivši snimku, Christine i on imaju štošta za vidjeti.

Večer je bila prilično pijana i konobarica (Kat Ingkarat) dala im je neko specijalno lokalno piće u baru da ispiju na iskap, ali to nije sve. Na povratku kući Christine i Neil su se u naletu strasti pohvatali na travi, kad što – on je najednom počeo daviti, zavrnuo joj vratom i zakopao njezino tijelo odmah tu ispred kuće.

Nevjerica na njihovu licu seli se na gledateljevo i štampanim slovima ispisuje upit "WTF?!" iznad glave. Pitanja se roje poput pčela iz završnice "Čovjeka od pruća" s Nicolasom Cageom ("Not the bees!"). Zašto bi, pobogu, Neil ubio Christine, koji mu je motiv? I ako ju je već ubio, kako je onda ona još uvijek živa i stoji tu pored njega gledajući horor filmić u kojem umire?

Je li se Christine vratila iz mrtvih ili je video "fejkan" i "netko se poigrava s nama"? Što se, kvragu, događa? Pitanja su, pokazat će se, bolja od odgovora koje s vremenom počinju davati režiser specijaliziran za stravu i užas Darren Lynn Bousman (drugi, treći i četvrti nastavak hororskog hit-serijala "Slagalica strave") te njegovi scenaristi Ari Margolis, James Morley II i David Tish, ubijajući početni momentum filma.

Isprve je sve puno potencijala i Bousman je pred sobom imao prrilično raspoložene glumce, Hemswortha koji želi izaći iz sjene popularnije braće te Maggie koja se ponaša kao da nije već nedavno proživjela nadrealni horor na "Otoku fantazija". Navodno piće koje je Christine popila izaziva halucinacije i paranoje, a jedan lokalac vidjevši snimku kaže "Hollywood", ali ništa od nekog hororskog metafilma, nažalost.

Povraća li Christine zapravo zemlju u kojoj je bila zakopana ili samo halucinira, odnosno je li sve samo u njezinoj glavi i proživljava neko izvantjelesno iskustvo? "Postojiš na spiritualnoj razini", netko kaže Christine. Bousmanu je oduvijek blo draže tjelesno od izvantjelesnog, tj. mentalnog, stoga horor preuzimaju nepotrebni trenuci (halucinacije?) s rasporenim crijevima i tajlandskim lokalcima zašivenih očiju i usta da ne vide i ne govore. Draže mu je i "logičko" objašnjenje od "ludog".

Kad Christine kaže "mora postojati manje ludo objašnjenje", Bousman je sluša i zadovoljava se da film počne slijediti tragove folk horora starog i novog datuma s ritualnim žrtvovanjima, lokalnim i inim kultovima, poput "Wicker Mana" Tobina Hardyja i "Midsommara" Arija Astera, koje je preselio sa britanskog otoka i iz švedskog sela na Tajland, umjesto da nastavi vlastitim naizgled autentično suludim putem koji je mogao utabati i odsanjati svoje košmare, a ne da sanja tuđe.

"Koga je nazvao tip u 'Čovjeku od pruća'?", pita se Neil i najavljuje da će "Moja smrt", baš kao "Festival straha", biti svojevrsna "Djevojka od pruća". To je okej i fanovi horora mogu se tijekom "lockdowna" zabaviti uz film koji ih odvodi na egzotični Tajland u vrijeme kad su putovanja nemoguća. No, početna premisa je filmu nudila više prostora da izgradi vlastiti identitet horora, a "Death of Me" nije ni blizu moćan kao "Midsommar" i bliži je novom nego starom "Wicker Manu". Samo ne pčele!

Luke Hemsworth je dosad glumio u seriji "Westworld", a utjelovio je i fikcionalnu verziju Thora u filmu "Thor Ragnarok", u onom zgodnom igrokazu u kojem je Matt Damon bio Loki.

Mamurluk iz noćne more na Tajlandu? Ne, ne govorimo o komediji "The Hangover Part 2", već o filmu strave i užasa "Death Of Me" koji zamišlja hororski odgovor na središnji dio humoristične trilogije. Osnovna zamisao je dobra, uz određene preinake spram "Mamurluka 2", tipa da se sada u centru priče na egzotičnj lokaciji nalazi jedan običan par, a ne razulareni prijatelji na vjenčanju/momačkoj večeri.

"Što se dogodilo sinoć? Ne mogu se sjetiti kako smo se vratili u sobu", dvoji Christine (Maggie Q; "Nemoguća misija III", "Umri muški 4.0") kad se probudi i pronađe momka Neila (Luke Hemsworth; stariji brat Chrisa i Liama) kao leži na podu AirBnB-a na jednom od tajlandskih otoka.

Dok pokušavaju povratiti sjećanje, Christine i Neil jure na brod za povratak na obalu i zrakoplov za Ameriku. Međutim, negdje su posijali putovnice i moraju se strpjeti do idućeg broda koji plovi predvečer. Dotad, novinar Neil se sjetio da je ovjekovječio prethodnu večer na kameri. Pustivši snimku, Christine i on imaju štošta za vidjeti.

Večer je bila prilično pijana i konobarica (Kat Ingkarat) dala im je neko specijalno lokalno piće u baru da ispiju na iskap, ali to nije sve. Na povratku kući Christine i Neil su se u naletu strasti pohvatali na travi, kad što – on je najednom počeo daviti, zavrnuo joj vratom i zakopao njezino tijelo odmah tu ispred kuće.

Nevjerica na njihovu licu seli se na gledateljevo i štampanim slovima ispisuje upit "WTF?!" iznad glave. Pitanja se roje poput pčela iz završnice "Čovjeka od pruća" s Nicolasom Cageom ("Not the bees!"). Zašto bi, pobogu, Neil ubio Christine, koji mu je motiv? I ako ju je već ubio, kako je onda ona još uvijek živa i stoji tu pored njega gledajući horor filmić u kojem umire?

Je li se Christine vratila iz mrtvih ili je video "fejkan" i "netko se poigrava s nama"? Što se, kvragu, događa? Pitanja su, pokazat će se, bolja od odgovora koje s vremenom počinju davati režiser specijaliziran za stravu i užas Darren Lynn Bousman (drugi, treći i četvrti nastavak hororskog hit-serijala "Slagalica strave") te njegovi scenaristi Ari Margolis, James Morley II i David Tish, ubijajući početni momentum filma.

Isprve je sve puno potencijala i Bousman je pred sobom imao prrilično raspoložene glumce, Hemswortha koji želi izaći iz sjene popularnije braće te Maggie koja se ponaša kao da nije već nedavno proživjela nadrealni horor na "Otoku fantazija". Navodno piće koje je Christine popila izaziva halucinacije i paranoje, a jedan lokalac vidjevši snimku kaže "Hollywood", ali ništa od nekog hororskog metafilma, nažalost.

Povraća li Christine zapravo zemlju u kojoj je bila zakopana ili samo halucinira, odnosno je li sve samo u njezinoj glavi i proživljava neko izvantjelesno iskustvo? "Postojiš na spiritualnoj razini", netko kaže Christine. Bousmanu je oduvijek blo draže tjelesno od izvantjelesnog, tj. mentalnog, stoga horor preuzimaju nepotrebni trenuci (halucinacije?) s rasporenim crijevima i tajlandskim lokalcima zašivenih očiju i usta da ne vide i ne govore. Draže mu je i "logičko" objašnjenje od "ludog".

Kad Christine kaže "mora postojati manje ludo objašnjenje", Bousman je sluša i zadovoljava se da film počne slijediti tragove folk horora starog i novog datuma s ritualnim žrtvovanjima, lokalnim i inim kultovima, poput "Wicker Mana" Tobina Hardyja i "Midsommara" Arija Astera, koje je preselio sa britanskog otoka i iz švedskog sela na Tajland, umjesto da nastavi vlastitim naizgled autentično suludim putem koji je mogao utabati i odsanjati svoje košmare, a ne da sanja tuđe.

"Koga je nazvao tip u 'Čovjeku od pruća'?", pita se Neil i najavljuje da će "Moja smrt", baš kao "Festival straha", biti svojevrsna "Djevojka od pruća". To je okej i fanovi horora mogu se tijekom "lockdowna" zabaviti uz film koji ih odvodi na egzotični Tajland u vrijeme kad su putovanja nemoguća. No, početna premisa je filmu nudila više prostora da izgradi vlastiti identitet horora, a "Death of Me" nije ni blizu moćan kao "Midsommar" i bliži je novom nego starom "Wicker Manu". Samo ne pčele!

Luke Hemsworth je dosad glumio u seriji "Westworld", a utjelovio je i fikcionalnu verziju Thora u filmu "Thor Ragnarok", u onom zgodnom igrokazu u kojem je Matt Damon bio Loki.
