Ono što je prije nekih devet mjeseci bio film "Oslo ", danas je "München: Na rubu rata" ("Munich: The Edge Of War"), čak i više. "Oslo" je imao premijeru na HBO-u u vrijeme erupcije novog sukoba Izraela i Palestine, donoseći priču o njihovom sporazumu s početka devedesetih godina prošlog stoljeća.
"München: Na rubu rata" je, pak, nakon listopadske premijere na BFI London Film Festivalu, osvanuo na Netflixu u zoru mogućeg rata između Rusije i Ukrajine od čega cijeli svijet strahuje, k tome i netom prije obilježavanja Međunarodnog dana sjećanja na žrtve holokausta.

Tajming je, dakle, dvostruko pogođen. Jer, "Munich: The Edge Of War" se odvija krajem tridesetih, u osvit Drugog svjetskog rata koji glavni likovi filma neuspješno pokušavaju zaustaviti, a za posljedicu je imao holokaust s milijunskim žrtvama.
Oba filma su utemeljena na istinitim pričama, kombiniraju činjenice s manjim ili većim uplivom fikcije i sličnih su korektno-solidnih televizijskih dometa za jednokratno gledanje. Najviše se razlikuju u žanrovima: "Oslo" je politička drama, a "München: Na rubu rata" više politički triler s elementima špijunskog filma.

Samim time, "Munich: The Edge Of War" je ponešto uzbudljiviji za gledanje, premda neujednačeno gradi momentum i ne podgrijava tenzije ni blizu uspješno kao političko-špijunski hladnoratovski trileri "Most špijuna " ili "Sjena špijuna ", niti "13 minuta" sa sličnim "what if" scenarijem (pokušaj atentata na Hitlera iz 1939.).
Iako u režiji Christiana Schwochowa djeluje kao "made in Germany", jedan od pripadnika novog trenda okajanja njemačke kinematografije zbog Drugog svjetskog rata ("Djelo bez autora ", "Labirint laži "), film je nastao u britansko-američkoj produkciji, s miješanom ekipom ispred i iza kamere (Nijemci, Britanci). Kao temelj za priču, osovljenu uoči tzv. Minhenskog sporazuma 1938., poslužio je roman Roberta Harrisa "Munich".
A priča počinje na Oxfordu 1932., gdje upoznajemo mladog Britanca Hugha Legata i Nijemca Paula Hartmana (George MacKay, Jannis Niewöhner ). Dvojac će se razići kao prijatelji oko političkih stavova i, nekoliko godina kasnije, obojica rade kao diplomati, svaki za svoju zemlju.

Najednom Hartman više nije nacionalist, već opozicija Hitleru (Ulrich Matthes ; tumačio Goebbelsa u "Konačnom padu"), dok je Legat tajnik mirnodopskog britanskog premijera Nevillea Chamberlaina (oskarovac Jeremy Irons ). "Dokle god rat nije počeo, ima nade da ga se može spriječiti. Radit ću na miru do zadnjeg trena", govori idealistički Chamberlain.
Britanski premijer nastoji preventirati još jedan konflikt ("idući rat bit će gori od prethodnoga"), naivno misleći da će uspješno pregovarati s Hitlerom koji skriva prave namjere u vezi potraživanja da se čehoslovački Sudeti, gdje je živjela njemačka manjina, pripoje Trećem Reichu.
To su mu na Minhenskom sporazumu omogućile Britanija, Francuska i Italija kako bi neutralizirale njegovu prijetnju ratom, a ustvari su popuštanjem dali krila njegovoj agresivnoj vanjskoj politici koja će dovesti do "World War II".
Neminovnu tragediju pokušavaju izbjeći Legat i Hartman; potonji ima pristup tajnim materijalima i voljan ih je podijeliti, a prvospomenuti odlazi u München da preuzme dokumente, riskirajući čin medunarodne špijunaže, te da omogući prijatelju audijenciju kod Chamberlaina koja britanskom premijeru ne uspijeva otvoriti oči.

"Nemojte potpisati sporazum, ne smijete mu dati to jer će tražiti više", Hartman upozorava Chamberlaina čije (ne)djelovanje film iskupljuje i opravdava tako što ispada da je, razmišljajući dalekosežno, žrtvovao svoj položaj da prokaže Hitlera kao budućeg meganegativca ako/kad prekrši "minhensku" riječ o miru, kupi vrijeme da se Britanija naoruža i pripremi za neizbježni rat u koji će ući i Amerika.
Ipak, "München: Na rubu rata" je najuspjeliji kad "što bi bilo kad (ne) bi bilo" scenarij provlači kroz filter trilera i izaziva da gledatelj načas zaboravi poznati ishod i navija da Chamberlain ne potpiše sporazum, još više da se Hartman prestane premišljati, posegne do kraja za pištoljem i ubije monstruma Hitlera. Hartman je na trenutak imao priliku da promijeni povijest barem na filmu u stilu Tarantinovih "Nemilosrdnih gadova ", ako se već ona nije mogla promijeniti u stvarnosti.

Ono što je prije nekih devet mjeseci bio film "Oslo ", danas je "München: Na rubu rata" ("Munich: The Edge Of War"), čak i više. "Oslo" je imao premijeru na HBO-u u vrijeme erupcije novog sukoba Izraela i Palestine, donoseći priču o njihovom sporazumu s početka devedesetih godina prošlog stoljeća.
"München: Na rubu rata" je, pak, nakon listopadske premijere na BFI London Film Festivalu, osvanuo na Netflixu u zoru mogućeg rata između Rusije i Ukrajine od čega cijeli svijet strahuje, k tome i netom prije obilježavanja Međunarodnog dana sjećanja na žrtve holokausta.

Tajming je, dakle, dvostruko pogođen. Jer, "Munich: The Edge Of War" se odvija krajem tridesetih, u osvit Drugog svjetskog rata koji glavni likovi filma neuspješno pokušavaju zaustaviti, a za posljedicu je imao holokaust s milijunskim žrtvama.
Oba filma su utemeljena na istinitim pričama, kombiniraju činjenice s manjim ili većim uplivom fikcije i sličnih su korektno-solidnih televizijskih dometa za jednokratno gledanje. Najviše se razlikuju u žanrovima: "Oslo" je politička drama, a "München: Na rubu rata" više politički triler s elementima špijunskog filma.

Samim time, "Munich: The Edge Of War" je ponešto uzbudljiviji za gledanje, premda neujednačeno gradi momentum i ne podgrijava tenzije ni blizu uspješno kao političko-špijunski hladnoratovski trileri "Most špijuna " ili "Sjena špijuna ", niti "13 minuta" sa sličnim "what if" scenarijem (pokušaj atentata na Hitlera iz 1939.).
Iako u režiji Christiana Schwochowa djeluje kao "made in Germany", jedan od pripadnika novog trenda okajanja njemačke kinematografije zbog Drugog svjetskog rata ("Djelo bez autora ", "Labirint laži "), film je nastao u britansko-američkoj produkciji, s miješanom ekipom ispred i iza kamere (Nijemci, Britanci). Kao temelj za priču, osovljenu uoči tzv. Minhenskog sporazuma 1938., poslužio je roman Roberta Harrisa "Munich".
A priča počinje na Oxfordu 1932., gdje upoznajemo mladog Britanca Hugha Legata i Nijemca Paula Hartmana (George MacKay, Jannis Niewöhner ). Dvojac će se razići kao prijatelji oko političkih stavova i, nekoliko godina kasnije, obojica rade kao diplomati, svaki za svoju zemlju.

Najednom Hartman više nije nacionalist, već opozicija Hitleru (Ulrich Matthes ; tumačio Goebbelsa u "Konačnom padu"), dok je Legat tajnik mirnodopskog britanskog premijera Nevillea Chamberlaina (oskarovac Jeremy Irons ). "Dokle god rat nije počeo, ima nade da ga se može spriječiti. Radit ću na miru do zadnjeg trena", govori idealistički Chamberlain.
Britanski premijer nastoji preventirati još jedan konflikt ("idući rat bit će gori od prethodnoga"), naivno misleći da će uspješno pregovarati s Hitlerom koji skriva prave namjere u vezi potraživanja da se čehoslovački Sudeti, gdje je živjela njemačka manjina, pripoje Trećem Reichu.
To su mu na Minhenskom sporazumu omogućile Britanija, Francuska i Italija kako bi neutralizirale njegovu prijetnju ratom, a ustvari su popuštanjem dali krila njegovoj agresivnoj vanjskoj politici koja će dovesti do "World War II".
Neminovnu tragediju pokušavaju izbjeći Legat i Hartman; potonji ima pristup tajnim materijalima i voljan ih je podijeliti, a prvospomenuti odlazi u München da preuzme dokumente, riskirajući čin medunarodne špijunaže, te da omogući prijatelju audijenciju kod Chamberlaina koja britanskom premijeru ne uspijeva otvoriti oči.

"Nemojte potpisati sporazum, ne smijete mu dati to jer će tražiti više", Hartman upozorava Chamberlaina čije (ne)djelovanje film iskupljuje i opravdava tako što ispada da je, razmišljajući dalekosežno, žrtvovao svoj položaj da prokaže Hitlera kao budućeg meganegativca ako/kad prekrši "minhensku" riječ o miru, kupi vrijeme da se Britanija naoruža i pripremi za neizbježni rat u koji će ući i Amerika.
Ipak, "München: Na rubu rata" je najuspjeliji kad "što bi bilo kad (ne) bi bilo" scenarij provlači kroz filter trilera i izaziva da gledatelj načas zaboravi poznati ishod i navija da Chamberlain ne potpiše sporazum, još više da se Hartman prestane premišljati, posegne do kraja za pištoljem i ubije monstruma Hitlera. Hartman je na trenutak imao priliku da promijeni povijest barem na filmu u stilu Tarantinovih "Nemilosrdnih gadova ", ako se već ona nije mogla promijeniti u stvarnosti.
