Jonathan Plummer rekao je liječnicima da pije 10 litara vode dnevno zbog čega su odmah posumnjali na dijagnozu dijabetesa. Međutim, nalazi su pokazali da ne boluje od dijabetesa, već da je uzrok njegove ekstremne žeđi tumor mozga smješten u hipofizi, prenosi Daily Mail.
Dio mozga veličine graška kontrolira osjećaj žeđi, u Plummerovom slučaju taj sustav je poludio i tjerao ga da pije pet puta više od preporučene dnevne doze. Tek kad je otišao na rutinski pregled vida, uočena je izraslina te je upućen u bolnicu na magnetsku rezonancu kojom je otkriveno da ima tumor na mozgu.
Poštar iz Falmoutha u Cornwallu prošao je 30 ciklusa zračenja i sad više nema tumor.
- Osjećao sam stalnu žeđ koju nisam mogao utažiti i došao sam do točke kad sam izbacivao jednaku količinu vode koju sam pio. Danima sam izostajao s posla i bio ekstremno umoran, kad sam čuo dijagnozu bio sam shrvan - rekao je Plummer.
Kao dio liječenja propisana mu je terapija steroidima zbog koje je s početnih 76 kilograma došao do čak 114. Zbog liječenja nije mogao igrati ragbi ni kriket što je prije svaki tjedan radio.
- Počeo sam trčati i plivati što je bila beskontaktna alternativa sportovima kojima sam se ranije bavio, tako sam ponovno uspostavio kontrolu nad težinom, kaže pacijent.
Sadašnji cilj mu je prikupiti novac za dobrotvornu organizaciju Brain Tumor Research putem sponzoriranog skoka s padobranom. Mel Tiley, menadžerica za razvoj zajednice u dobrotvornoj organizaciji, zahvalila je Jonathanu što je podijelio svoju priču i pronašao pozitivu nakon što mu je dijagnosticiran tumor.

- Jonathanova priča nas podsjeća da su tumori neselektivni, mogu pogoditi bilo koga u bilo kojoj dobi. Odlučni smo to promijeniti i zajedničkim ćemo radom poboljšati mogućnosti liječenja za pacijente, u konačnici i pronaći lijek, rekla je Tiley.
Prema Cancer Research UK, u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu se svake godine dijagnosticira oko 12 000 slučajeva tumora mozga, s oko 5 000 smrtnih slučajeva. Preživljavanje uvelike ovisi o specifičnoj vrsti tumora i njegovoj točnoj lokaciji, a samo 10 posto pacijenata s dijagnozom živi dulje od jednog desetljeća.

Jonathan Plummer rekao je liječnicima da pije 10 litara vode dnevno zbog čega su odmah posumnjali na dijagnozu dijabetesa. Međutim, nalazi su pokazali da ne boluje od dijabetesa, već da je uzrok njegove ekstremne žeđi tumor mozga smješten u hipofizi, prenosi Daily Mail.
Dio mozga veličine graška kontrolira osjećaj žeđi, u Plummerovom slučaju taj sustav je poludio i tjerao ga da pije pet puta više od preporučene dnevne doze. Tek kad je otišao na rutinski pregled vida, uočena je izraslina te je upućen u bolnicu na magnetsku rezonancu kojom je otkriveno da ima tumor na mozgu.
Poštar iz Falmoutha u Cornwallu prošao je 30 ciklusa zračenja i sad više nema tumor.
- Osjećao sam stalnu žeđ koju nisam mogao utažiti i došao sam do točke kad sam izbacivao jednaku količinu vode koju sam pio. Danima sam izostajao s posla i bio ekstremno umoran, kad sam čuo dijagnozu bio sam shrvan - rekao je Plummer.
Kao dio liječenja propisana mu je terapija steroidima zbog koje je s početnih 76 kilograma došao do čak 114. Zbog liječenja nije mogao igrati ragbi ni kriket što je prije svaki tjedan radio.
- Počeo sam trčati i plivati što je bila beskontaktna alternativa sportovima kojima sam se ranije bavio, tako sam ponovno uspostavio kontrolu nad težinom, kaže pacijent.
Sadašnji cilj mu je prikupiti novac za dobrotvornu organizaciju Brain Tumor Research putem sponzoriranog skoka s padobranom. Mel Tiley, menadžerica za razvoj zajednice u dobrotvornoj organizaciji, zahvalila je Jonathanu što je podijelio svoju priču i pronašao pozitivu nakon što mu je dijagnosticiran tumor.

Prema Cancer Research UK, u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu se svake godine dijagnosticira oko 12 000 slučajeva tumora mozga, s oko 5 000 smrtnih slučajeva. Preživljavanje uvelike ovisi o specifičnoj vrsti tumora i njegovoj točnoj lokaciji, a samo 10 posto pacijenata s dijagnozom živi dulje od jednog desetljeća.
