Stigao nam je u kina par tjedana nakon Valentinova, premijerno na sam Dan žena kao ‘dar‘ gledatelji(ca)ma koje bi u umiljatom plišanom medvjediću trebale prepoznati elemente jeze i u konačnici se slediti od straha. Formula bi možda djelovala na premijeri Beetlejuicea negdje potkraj 1980-tih, ali današnja publika ipak više očekuje od autora koji pokušavaju oživjeti usnuli žanr prepasti.

Relativan uspjeh lanjskog ‘Five nights at Freddy‘s‘ potvrdio je da postoji niša za naizgled istrošene filmove strave, no aktualni ‘Imaginary‘ neće biti taj koji će je ispuniti. Ovaj je horor za krpanje rupa u ožujskom kino repertoaru bezidejno ostvarenje koje bezočno parazitira na motivima brojnih prethodnika. Ukleta kuća, nadnaravna bića koja teroriziraju uljeze, svjetleći portali u drugu dimenziju, zloslutne igračke i još koješta bolno prepoznatljivog vrtloži se u filmu redatelja Jeffreya Wadlowa (Plijen, Fantasy island), stvarajući kod publike efekt dosade umjesto željene tenzije.

Već na početku postaje jasno da storija o obiteljskoj selidbi u okruženje paranormalnog neće donijeti bogzna kakvo uzbuđenje, pa čak ni nostalgičnu ‘deja vu‘ notu. Odmicanjem radnje i gomilanjem klišeja prvi dojam samo se učvršćuje: množe se scene koje ne vode nikamo, likove posložene kao po odabiru dozlaboga uopćene umjetne inteligencije, guta loše fabricirana napetost. I sve je to garnirano scenarijem u kojem bi se pogubila i najumješnija glumačka imena. DeWanda Wise u glavnoj ulozi netom udane ilustratorice dječjih knjiga Jessice, povratnice na adresu svog djetinjstva skroz je promašen odabir.

U kakvoj romantičnoj komediji njezin bi potencijal vjerojatno snažnije došao do izražaja, a ovako se gubi u borbi s demonima koji odmalena opsjedaju junakinju. No, ma koliko se trudili proniknuti u korijene njezine patnje, nećemo odmaknuti dalje od par strelovitih opisa tobože zastrašujućih figura i blesasto prikazanog roditeljskog udjela u njihovu istjerivanju. U glumačkoj podjeli, ovakvoj kakva jest, najviše daje najmlađa članica Pyper Braun. Kao Jessicina filmska pokćerka Alice djevojčica jedina prirodno komunicira s glavnim negativcem, zloslutnim medvjedićem Chaunceyem.

Stariji glumci redom su neuvjerljivi, a stupanj ‘falšanja‘ raste s godinama: najmanje je zastupljen kod starije Aliceine sestre Taylor (Taegen Burns), a apsolutno prevladavajući kod njezina filmskog oca, dezorijentiranog glazbenika Maxa (Tom Payne). Wadlovljev horor propustio je iskoristiti i psihološki snažan motiv izmišljenog prijatelja, fenomena u kojem dijete izmisli figuru za druženje i zaštitu od opasnosti. Chauncey je trebao biti taj ‘imaginary friend‘, no njegove supermoći iscrpljuju se na - izbočenim zjenicama. Kako ne bi pofalilo i drugih onostranih dekoracija, nađe se tu i oktopoda nalik bićima iz Jessicine knjige, predimenzioniranih zubala i kandži, no ništa od tog ne zastrašuje pučanstvo, bez obzira na dob.

Što li bi o ovom nedopečenom filmskom složencu rekao Stephen King? Kralj horora je 2022. za žanrovski uradak godine odabrao ‘Crni telefon‘ u produkciji Blumhousea koji stoji i iza ‘Imaginarya‘. U 2024. će King teško nagraditi istog producenta, osim ako se uz ovaj flop do božićnih blagdana ne pojavi neki horor koji nas neće strašiti samo promašenim konceptom.

Stigao nam je u kina par tjedana nakon Valentinova, premijerno na sam Dan žena kao ‘dar‘ gledatelji(ca)ma koje bi u umiljatom plišanom medvjediću trebale prepoznati elemente jeze i u konačnici se slediti od straha. Formula bi možda djelovala na premijeri Beetlejuicea negdje potkraj 1980-tih, ali današnja publika ipak više očekuje od autora koji pokušavaju oživjeti usnuli žanr prepasti.

Relativan uspjeh lanjskog ‘Five nights at Freddy‘s‘ potvrdio je da postoji niša za naizgled istrošene filmove strave, no aktualni ‘Imaginary‘ neće biti taj koji će je ispuniti. Ovaj je horor za krpanje rupa u ožujskom kino repertoaru bezidejno ostvarenje koje bezočno parazitira na motivima brojnih prethodnika. Ukleta kuća, nadnaravna bića koja teroriziraju uljeze, svjetleći portali u drugu dimenziju, zloslutne igračke i još koješta bolno prepoznatljivog vrtloži se u filmu redatelja Jeffreya Wadlowa (Plijen, Fantasy island), stvarajući kod publike efekt dosade umjesto željene tenzije.

Već na početku postaje jasno da storija o obiteljskoj selidbi u okruženje paranormalnog neće donijeti bogzna kakvo uzbuđenje, pa čak ni nostalgičnu ‘deja vu‘ notu. Odmicanjem radnje i gomilanjem klišeja prvi dojam samo se učvršćuje: množe se scene koje ne vode nikamo, likove posložene kao po odabiru dozlaboga uopćene umjetne inteligencije, guta loše fabricirana napetost. I sve je to garnirano scenarijem u kojem bi se pogubila i najumješnija glumačka imena. DeWanda Wise u glavnoj ulozi netom udane ilustratorice dječjih knjiga Jessice, povratnice na adresu svog djetinjstva skroz je promašen odabir.

U kakvoj romantičnoj komediji njezin bi potencijal vjerojatno snažnije došao do izražaja, a ovako se gubi u borbi s demonima koji odmalena opsjedaju junakinju. No, ma koliko se trudili proniknuti u korijene njezine patnje, nećemo odmaknuti dalje od par strelovitih opisa tobože zastrašujućih figura i blesasto prikazanog roditeljskog udjela u njihovu istjerivanju. U glumačkoj podjeli, ovakvoj kakva jest, najviše daje najmlađa članica Pyper Braun. Kao Jessicina filmska pokćerka Alice djevojčica jedina prirodno komunicira s glavnim negativcem, zloslutnim medvjedićem Chaunceyem.

Stariji glumci redom su neuvjerljivi, a stupanj ‘falšanja‘ raste s godinama: najmanje je zastupljen kod starije Aliceine sestre Taylor (Taegen Burns), a apsolutno prevladavajući kod njezina filmskog oca, dezorijentiranog glazbenika Maxa (Tom Payne). Wadlovljev horor propustio je iskoristiti i psihološki snažan motiv izmišljenog prijatelja, fenomena u kojem dijete izmisli figuru za druženje i zaštitu od opasnosti. Chauncey je trebao biti taj ‘imaginary friend‘, no njegove supermoći iscrpljuju se na - izbočenim zjenicama. Kako ne bi pofalilo i drugih onostranih dekoracija, nađe se tu i oktopoda nalik bićima iz Jessicine knjige, predimenzioniranih zubala i kandži, no ništa od tog ne zastrašuje pučanstvo, bez obzira na dob.

Što li bi o ovom nedopečenom filmskom složencu rekao Stephen King? Kralj horora je 2022. za žanrovski uradak godine odabrao ‘Crni telefon‘ u produkciji Blumhousea koji stoji i iza ‘Imaginarya‘. U 2024. će King teško nagraditi istog producenta, osim ako se uz ovaj flop do božićnih blagdana ne pojavi neki horor koji nas neće strašiti samo promašenim konceptom.
