U jednom od najdinamičnijih gradova središnje Floride (SAD), koji se širi brže od metropola poput Los Angelesa i New Yorka, pojavio se neobičan prizor: automobili ukrašeni spužvama na krovovima. No, što zapravo stoji iza ovog neobičnog trenda koji privlači poglede javnosti?

Sve je počelo kada je Tora, lokalna drag queen, podijelila video na TikToku prikazujući stanovnike kako kupuju spužve, a zatim ih postavljaju na svoja vozila i golf kolica. Video je brzo postao viralan, sakupivši preko šest milijuna pregleda i potaknuvši razvoj neobične teorije.
Prema ovoj teoriji, vozači koriste spužve kako bi signalizirali spremnost na razmjenu partnera, inspirirani kodom boja koji je LGBT+ zajednica koristila 1970-ih, kada su rupčići u džepovima hlača služili kao signal sentimentalnog statusa i sklonosti.
No, prava priča iza spužvama je puno jednostavnija. Na blogu The Villages, nazvanom Inside The Bubble, objašnjeno je da umirovljenici koriste ove znakove kako bi lakše pronašli svoja parkirana vozila ili golf vozila u moru sličnih. Neki preferiraju bazenske tube postavljene na antene, ili krovne nosače svojih vozila, naročito kada su sva vozila slične boje ili dizajna, što olakšava identifikaciju u gomili.
